50 Best Chinese Restaurants near Rye

“Fairfield County Connecticut does Not have any mockmeat chinese takeout menu (the closest is New Asia- Hartford Ct which has similar mockmeat takeout offerings as this & is cheaper) so bonus points for just filling a need. Unlike other restaurants, China Harden-Rye had a whole veg/vegan menu (not just 2 lame tofu offerings like most restaurants offer) The mockmeat dishes such as sesame chikn, general tsaos, orange chikn were those fried flat, round nuggets with sauce which is OK for takeout but I can take nuggets & toss with sauce at home. I'm still searching for proper breaded seitan/tofu fried pieces that are big like non-vegan meals. There's no vegan sweet & sour pork or v- walnut shrimp which west coast vegan takeout has. && The menu says vegetarian but they claim it's vegan. Service was excellent as they accomodated my nut allergy by not putting nuts in kungpao chikn & assuring no nut oils in anything. V-beef & broccoli was delish however didnt taste like the meat-based dish & texture was excellent. Was expensive for takeout quality, we ate at the restaurant on plates & the serving size seemed smallish but food was pleasantly hot & crispy. they put relaxing musac on for our dining pleasure too. Will definitely return bc there's no other mockmeat chinese takeout place anywhere near fairfield county. Updated from previous review on 2025-03-10“

“I generally like the food here, I have tried their general tso's chicken, pad thai, scallion pancakes, pork fried dumplings and various sushi dishes which were all quite good. Not a top restaurant but definitely a decent pick and not insanely expensive considering the area it is in. There usually arent that many people eating there if you like a relatively quiet dining experience but I also rated it a 3 for atmosphere as it isn't very lively. Good service, 4 stars for me overall.“

“Aimee was absolutely amazing! We came in with my 3 year old daughter and my dad, and she made the entire experience wonderful from start to finish. She was incredibly sweet, attentive, and especially great with my daughter, making her feel so welcome and comfortable. “I go every Monday with my husband , we love this place , the front guy desk with glasses I don’t know his name but he is so amazing he is one of the kind me and my husband loves going there because of how he is treating us nice and good customer service , my husband is a police officer and I’m a teacher so we only get 1 once a week to go on a date and every week on Monday we go to curry N wok because it’s so awesome , the food so amazing too , customer service amazing , I love the DoSa , pakora with their amazing tea , also their sambar Veda super super amazing , this place it’s my go to . “After years of eating at all the local spots (Bamboo Garden, Peking, and New Great Wall) I can honestly say this is the BEST Chinese food I’ve had in White Plains. The extra drive is absolutely worth it. Portions are “old school” big, prices run about $2 to $3 less than other places, and they always throw in something extra for free. The egg rolls taste just like the ones you remember as a kid, and the boneless spare ribs were superb (IMO). My wife, who usually gets headaches when MSG is used, had no issues here, which says a lot. Just a heads up that it’s cash only and they don’t deliver, but honestly, that’s no big deal when you can eat this well without it costing an arm and a leg!“

“I ordered shrimp with broccoli from East Bamboo Chinese Restaurant and was very disappointed. The broccoli and sauce were very bland, and the shrimp tasted bad and seemed spoiled. I called the restaurant to let them know, but they told me the chef said the shrimp was fresh. Unfortunately, based on the taste, that was not my experience at all. Overall, the food quality was poor, and I would not order from them again.“

“Chen's has become our go to Chinese take out for the last few years and for good reason. The hard working owners are always friendly and the quality and portions are always the best. Try the curry chicken, chow fun or the hot and sour soup. All are terrific!“

At the moment, the kitchen appears to be a family operation with one prepping and one cooking. Walk-in orders are coming out as quickly as before.

The quality of the food is very good, fresh. Some have commented that the taste is different, which comes down to the oil. The previous owners relied heavily on a specific vegetable oil when flash frying. Customers became used to the oil taste. The current food has far less/no vegetable oil flavor which I prefer.

I have been here several times, and the food was the same every times; fresh, and the portions are very good.

They also don't skimp out anything and make sure to give you all the sauces you can possibly want, even sometimes putting in a small container of sweet and sour sauce. “Open Rice Poke Bowl is one of my favorite spots in Stamford! The food is always fresh, delicious, and consistently good. I love that the menu offers a variety of options, so there’s truly something for everyone.

Favorites from there are the Thai Curry Noodle Soup, Hibachi, Mongolian beef, pineapple pork fried rice, szechuan dumplings, sushi is very fresh as well! Highly recommend!“

“This is the most horrible restaurant place I've ever ordered from. I ordered and picked up in store. I ordered "Roast Pork with Chinese vegetables" I specifically asked if the vegetables included bok choy and was assured that it did. When I got home with the food the only vegetable included with the Pork was celery. Just a container of pork and celery, another time I ordered BBQ Ribs and it was a very small order and some of them were burned. When I questioned the counter person he answered that they had run out. Then why did they sell, and charge me an order? Don't order food from this place, If you want to enjoy it, it is BAD and they.“

“The food was good - the soup dumplings could use a bit more soup. But the skin isn't too thick. The shrimp fried rice was exactly what you'd expect, with a good portion of shrimp. The beef chow fun was the right flavor too and not too oily. The seafood tofu casserole was yummy though we would have liked some chili oil to add. If you're ordering the casserole, I'd also recommend ordering white rice to go with!

The service is a work in progress. Got our seat quickly, which was great and the waitress was nice. Food came fast and hot, but the soup dumplings were delivered with no spoons for either holding the dumpling or for the sauce - we then had to wait longer for it, as the waitress looked for spoons while our dumplings cooled. Some easy things could be fixed to make a big difference.“

“Since Steam changed owners, it feels like a completely new restaurant—and the food is absolutely delicious! It’s unfortunate that reviews from the previous ownership are still weighing down their rating, because the new menu, staff, and food are all fantastic.
The tofu lettuce cups, Szechuan dumplings, scallion pancakes, and bamboo-fired fish are absolute must-tries. And definitely ask for extra dumpling sauce—it’s amazing for dipping the fish!
If you love Chinese food, I highly recommend giving Steam a try. Don’t let the older reviews deter you—the new Steam is fantastic!“

“I’ve lived in Mount Vernon for all my life and have found this place to be one of the best. The only thing I wish they still did was delivery. The food is always good. We commented to the owner/manager about one dish we didn't love, a jalapeno yellowtail ponzu (sauce was over powering) and we were given six sashimi slices of yellowtail on the house to assure our satisfaction. “I discovered this Chinese restaurant one day when I was in Port chester doing some shopping and going to the movies. I've been here a number of times now. It's along Westchester Avenue where there is a selection of various cuisines.The food is delicious and it's not greasy. I love the rice, its bright yellow and full of flavor. The chicken used in the sesame and general tso are fried just right and not too hard. I personally don't eat Chinese all the time and when I do I usually stand outdoors while my food cooks because you can smell the heavy grease inside and down the street. But at Panda I'm able to stand inside to wait for my food because it doesn't smell. This is a cash only place so make sure you have plenty. The man behind the counter is nice and he speaks Spanish which is nice for the customers that visit. Its not a place really to stay long and eat because there's 4 tables. I take my food to go. They also do not deliver.

“At first it might feel like a generic take out spot, and to be fair it is, however as I waited for my order and went ahead and ordered more, I noticed something very strange. I was patient, polite but also direct with what I wanted and communicated it well. At the end, I left with a smile on my face because they reciprocated all of the things I mentioned and then some by making sure I got enough sauces and thanked me three times. It is the little things that makes you return to a business and I sure will. They have $10 card minimum but take cash. My total was $16 for a double sautéed pork and fried rice combo the side and something similar but with shrimp with lobster sauce. I was happy to leave them the $20 and was on my way to enjoy the food. Overall it was a great experience so I think anyone patient enough should give this place a try.

Parking: You can park on the lot that the store stands on or park along the street that has ample parking for almost 6 cars.

Kid-friendliness: Enough seating for people to sit and eat, wait for their food for takeout, or come and go so there is no problem to bring your kids along.“

Instead, she recommended a dinner special with the same items for an additional $10. Other than that, the food was amazing 10/10 and so was the service and atmosphere.
