Thankfully, this place makes life a little better.
My go-to order is a pastrami, egg, and cheese wrap with home fries and hot sauce, and it's always on point. But what really keeps me coming back is that they never say no. Whether I want to customize a sandwich, smoothie, fresh juice, or milkshake, no matter how ridiculous my order gets, they always greet me with a smile and do their best to make it exactly the way I want it.

“Alex is an absolute institution in the neighborhood and (even more important), a truly good soul whose kindness makes all of the food taste even better. He knows every family by name, and goes out of his way to look out for all of us. “Awesome italian deli with great bread and sandwhiches. They also have a small hot table w prepared foods and a small section of imported Italian goods and mets memorabilia. They own the bakery next door and I saw someone who ordered some amazing looking french toast and bacon egg n cheese on foccacia. They have a garden patio with seating and a fountain that you can sit at and enjoy. The garden area reminds me of my grandparents and elderly relatives. Love how the painted mural has the Bari mentioned.“

“I absolutely adore this old school, multi-generational, Cantonese style bakery. Its pricing and offerings still cater to the old school Chinese crowd. It’s got a huge selection considering its size which translates to a lot of labor and my sense is that they probably rely on volume (fortunately they always seem busy!) for profit like many Chinatown businesses do.

We continue to lose traditional places like this in favor of bubble tea chains and shops that cater towards younger generations and tourists. Please cherish shops like these and keep the Chinatown that serves its own community alive.

“Fillmore Deli and Backroom is a pretty solid neighborhood spot with a surprising mix of options. The Korean fried chicken is actually really good crispy, flavorful, and definitely worth trying. They also have a large variety of sandwiches, so there’s something for whatever mood you’re in.

One thing that always throws me off though is they tend to run out of the tuna pretty often, which is strange for a deli. But besides that, everything else seems to be okay. It’s a reliable place to grab a quick bite and the food usually hits the spot.“

The shop has been around for more than 50 years and still serves some of the best sandwiches in the city. “The sandwiches were delicious and what really impressed me was the customer service. I ordered the S3 Fireman and thought the chipotle chicken was shredded chicken mixed with chipotle sauce. I didn't realize it was actually a shredded chicken chipotle cold cut. I love cold cuts, but unfortunately I can't have them at the moment, so I asked if it would be possible to substitute grilled chicken instead. They were so nice and made me a whole new sandwich. I felt bad, but they were very understanding and took care of it without any attitude.
