“When it comes to dominican food in the cypress hills area in Brooklyn I recommend Toribios hands down. Ordering is like any typical restaurant you have music and people shouting in the back ground but if you can get pass that I promise you won't regret it. The steam table options are endless and they vary depending on tue days so always ask when you call. Our personal favorite is combo #1 that easily feeds a family of four for $24 bucks and it brings a large white rice, medium brand of choice, 1 whole bake chicken, sweet plantains or green salad and a 2 liter soda of choice. It's a family favorite and we all eat well. Another favorite dish is the cold shrimp salad. I absolutely love it, it's almost a ceviche except it doesn't have any fish just shrimp, crab, onions and peppers a small costs $6 and a larger a one $12. Totally worth the price. Next time you're in the area check out Toribio.“

But … I found the food to be lacking in taste (particularly the Gilda and Kroketas) and the presentation was similar to what my mother would have done. Not bad, just average. The chorizo and garbanzo played their part serviceably.We followed it with the Uni Palabok. The uni and caviar were very tasty, and it was nice to try quality ingredients. However, the relative intensity of the sauce somewhat drowned out the more delicate flavors of the uni and caviar.(From my wife who grew up eating Palabok, it is *extremely* elevated)Our last entree was the Lengua de Champinon, and it was phenomenal! The tongue was expertly cooked and wonderfully tender, and the creamy mushroom sauce was a great pairing for it.For dessert, they don't have it listed on the menu yet, but they had some Tres Leches cake available. The cake was perfectly saturated with milk sauce while maintaining it's form, and instead of the standard whipped cream, it had meringue on top which was quite interesting!It was a bit pricey, but the menu is online so that's no surprise.“

“Loved this spot! We came for an early dinner and the restaurant was fairly empty but filled up later during reg dinner hours. Food arrived quickly and was delish! The highlight for me was the portobello carpaccio (not pictured). The tapas are nicely sized for being tapas. We got sangrias but I'd probably try a cocktail or do a white wine next time. They did kindly give us complimentary white wine which was super sweet! Dessert was delish and I'd def try the chocolate mousse next time as well. “Gave this place a try a week ago and it was pretty good. Nothing we had was what I would call "ground breaking" but it was pretty solid for classics. The pancakes were very fluffy and fat but held good flavor too. For some reason I just had to try this places chopped cheese (my local bodega stopped selling food and switched to weed) and yea I've had better chopped cheeses but it did scratch that itch when you're craving one. I got the energizer juice also which was on par with others no notes. All in all the place is studry it sells what it's good at and seems to have a following of customers that appreciate that.“

“Easy 5 stars, even with a long wait for the bar… b/c they were fully booked and we came in on a Saturday evening with no reservation at the last minute, so that was COMPLETELY understandable. I’m only mentioning it b/c i recommend getting a reservation and so that if you go, and it’s busy, be prepared to wait, but it is worth worth it! They even brought out two tapas to thank us for waiting it out. The octopus (seared perfectly), and mushroom croquettes were his favorite, while the shishito peppers, and camarones de ajillo were my strong favorites (I needed more bread for the amazing hot garlic olive oil at the bottom). I would definitely recommend this restaurant if you have any interest in Spanish tapa style of food. The potatoes bravas were good, I like mine super crispy so I would ask for that the next time.
