14 Best Dive Bars in Cleveland

Beachland Ballroom & Tavern Dive Bar • $$
15711 Waterloo Rd, Cleveland

“Very limited parking at the venue but you can pretty quickly find street parking. This place is a bar/restaurant/music venue so a review of one aspect of the business may not reflect the other areas.I haven't used the bar enough to be able to comment.I have only been to the restaurant for brunch which has a good trendy selection of meals with average execution. I've always been annoyed because it's one of the only brunch spots that does their dishes with only one egg in a meal. Then they charge way too much to add a second egg. The bloody Mary menu is really good :)The music venue is great for its size. The stage is pretty high so it's easy to see the show from anywhere in the ballroom. The place is an old cultural club or ballroom of some variety and it has the nostalgic charm to go with it. They updated their sound system a couple years ago and it's a phenomenal sounding venue now.“

“As much as I like going out to new, hyped hotspots, I also love cozy, relaxed & casual dive bar vibes. Hoopples definitely hits the mark. Warm, friendly atmosphere, personable staff, solid drink selection, a simple menu with classic feel-good comfort food, darts & machine bowling, and local decor honoring Cleveland sports, motorcycle culture, and other local interests. Street parking is available. The establishment is also much bigger inside than it looks from the outside, with a good amount of seating inside and out on the patio. Hoopples has a mix of the after-work crowd winding down after a long day, locals having a good time to eat, drink, enjoy each other's company, and watch a sports game. I came on a weekday night, and while it was buzzing with energy, it wasn't too crowded, which was nice. Overall, if you're looking to have a casual, super laidback hangout spot, I would definitely recommend Hoopples!“

“Fun local place. Friendly people and bar tenders have always been excellent. Message to the owner. You have improved with your stereotyping (type of hat or the way it is worn). Realize that has nothing to do with the character of the person.“

Ugly Broad Tavern Bar • $

“What a lovely little spot! I'm all about a good dive bar and we found the best one in Cleveland! Sherry & Simone were so welcoming, it felt like home. A pool table & curated jukebox were great additions and although we didn't eat (Sloppy Joes $4), I'm sure they were delicious. Inexpensive, charming & the visit left me with a huge smile on my face, knowing this was one of those special places. Can't say enough good things, just an all around great time. This place is a real as it gets. If you are in Cleveland, pay them a visit, tell em Patti from Philly sent you. ??“

“Friendly place with a lot of regulars. The bartenders are great. Today it was Sarah. She's friendly and professional at the same time. The regular menu is predictable but good bar food. But always check out the specials for homemade soups and more. Today I had the special: breaded pork chop with home fries and mixed veggies which was great at 15$. Cozy place. Great juke box. Check the joint out.“

“We came in for Fish Fry. I love this bar. People are nice, our server was especially nice! The food was yummy. We got 5-star service so a 5-star is no brainer! Also, there is some sort of putt-putt in basement and one of the best patios. Prices are reasonable and honestly really good people run this place!“

“I had a friend that had her Death to 20’s 30th birthday party here! It was public up front and when you went to the back area, that was reserved for her party. I had no idea it was even back there (a lot of people also said that from the party)! Good atmosphere, great service, clean and tidy, she had her own private bar in the back and there was mini golf outside out back too. We parked on the street. It was definitely a great time!“

“We were looking for a new place to grab a drink mid week and ABC tavern didn't disappoint! Zach was exceptionally friendly and made the best martini I've had in a long time! The apps were good. We loved the pita chips - they were flavorful and warm! The hummus was just ok. The house made chips were pretty good and seasoned mildly. Slightly undercooked. The French onion dip was heavy on the sour cream and light on the onion mix. We were there for the drinks so we didn't mind that the food wasn't 5 stars. The bar was cozy and the other patrons were nice. It was quiet except for the music. Just what we needed to unwind from a stressful day!“
