“’ve been a fan of Sansotei for years, and this Merivale location continues that same reliable, comforting experience I’ve come to expect. Everything here is consistently good—from the broth to the noodles to the toppings—and it matches the quality I’ve enjoyed at their Toronto locations as well.

My “home base” will always be the Sansotei on Bank Street, right next to my office building. I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve slipped in during lunch for a quick bowl that resets the whole day. This Merivale spot carries that same warmth and consistency, which is why it’s so easy to recommend.

“We stopped in for lunch on our drive home from Quebec to Sudbury. It seemed fairly busy, yet our food arrived seemingly instantaneously. The staff are so kind and welcoming. What really stood out to me was how fresh everything was. The avocado was such high-quality, something hard come by in Sudbury. “100% recommended! The best Japaneese food ( especially sushi) you can get around. my family from Stratford and Birmingham comes to Redditch just for their sushi. It's always fresh and great variety ( not just sad tuna or salmon rolls). Kids love the bubble teas, the hot pots are amazing. Plum wine and cocktails are also worth mentioning. Staff attentive and friendly - always ready to explain things, let the kids dress up in kimonos.“

I tried both the Tuna Love and Salmon Love combos. Personally, the tuna didn’t impress me much — it lacked the same freshness and flavor that I was hoping for. The salmon, on the other hand, was absolutely fantastic — fresh, buttery, and perfectly cut. I’d honestly go back just for that combo alone.

The gyoza was the only slight disappointment, as it tasted more like something cooked from frozen rather than made in-house. Still, that’s a small trade-off considering how great the salmon sushi was overall.

“It was our first time trying the Omakase experience and we were amazed.
Food: The quality and freshness was 10/10, the flavours were amazing, the first bite was HEAVENLY. The chef was showing us the ingredients and the types of fish, the staff was explaining how fresh it was, where it was coming from and what were the ingredients of each dishes. We had the option of adding the uni (sea urchin) for an extra 25$ and we don’t regret it. It was definitely unique but so fresh, and the staff took the time to come asked us about how we liked it or not after the meal. Drinks were beautifully crafted and delicious (we had a berry based vodka one). The wine recommendation was spot on and delicious.

Service: Service was really great. Chef Hikaru (who speaks Japanese only) found ways to communicate with us (he has a little translater tool) and make us feel special. The rest of the staff and owner were attentive, kind and entertained us.

Atmosphere: Atmosphere was lovely and intimate. Sitting at the bar was great to look at the chef and experience this fully. It wasn’t too loud. Lighting was dimmed and perfect for the atmosphere.

It’s an expensive experience, but we felt like it was definitely worth it for the freshness of the food, the taste, the service and ambiance. We will definitely come back for a special occasion!“

“We ordered Party Tray 3 from Sushi Umi for our family of four, including two high school students, and it was a very satisfying amount for all of us. Everyone was full and happy 🥰.

The tray had a great variety of rolls with fresh fish, well-balanced flavors, and beautiful presentation (just like the photos).

The sushi rice was nicely seasoned, the fish tasted fresh, and each roll felt thoughtfully made. Also, their dumplings were amazing—crispy on the outside and juicy and flavorful inside. Even the teenagers loved them, which says a lot!

The food was very good, I’d say an 8/10. I would be happy to go back here and try out other dishes. The special rolls were all very good and presented very nicely. I think the taste just falls short of the best sushi I’ve ever had, but is still highly recommendable.

Service was decent, nothing very good or bad either way. They were friendly and knowledgeable when asked questions.

The restaurant is small and intimate, however it is still possible to come here with a small to medium sized group. Do note that they don’t take reservations, so on busier nights you may have to wait a bit longer.“

“Sushi was very fresh and tasty. A bit pricey for the size of the smaller rolls but delicious nonetheless. They were generous with the pickled ginger and soya sauce. Service was friendly.
