“I’m a long time Chip+Malt customer since they first opened when I was in high school which was 8 or so years ago. The best fish + chips by far in Newmarket and still the same quality from when I first started eating here. The customer service here is always great as well with the staff always engaging my guests and myself as well making us feel welcome. Even the ice cream, chowder, and other items are fantastic, I will always come back here for as long as it stays open (which is hopefully forever)!“
“Went for a $12.99 haddock meal with fries and coleslaw.Couldn't tell the different between that and halibut.. other than the $9 more you would pay for the halibut. It was great.They serve tartar sauce in a huge squeeze bottle.. which I appreciate as opposed to the little packets you need at least 4 of to get a good amount for the meal.“
“I ordered take-out, first time eating anything from this Newmarket location. My family and I had fish & chips, fish portion was perfect (8 oz.) cooked to perfection, the batter was light and crispy, just the way I like it (not greasy), the chips were golden brown and were the perfect crunch on the outside and soft on the inside. My family really enjoyed the food. I placed my order over the phone and the woman told me it would be ready in 15 minutes. I showed up exactly fifteen minutes later as I watched the put my bag on the counter (a 10 for being dead-on time) paying was quick and easy and I was out the door about 1 minute after I walked in.The bottom line is the food was delicious, quantity was perfect (I eat a lot) and the prices are great. I definitely will be a regular now. I think my next visit will be to enjoy a meal inside at one of their dinner style booths. Needless to say, tonight was an awesome experience for me and I'm sure it will be for you too.Visited: Friday, February 9th around 6:15 pm. “Ordered takeout halibut was small and rubbery and placed on top of the fries so all the fries were extra greasy not happy with this experienceUPDATE:Ordered takeout for pickup in late 2023 and it was a completely different experience from the first time I made a review.The host gave a warm greeting and helped me with the side menu options. The halibut was much better, a good size portion, battered nicely and perfectly golden ? the fish was packed ontop of the fries however the way it was set in the bag, allowed any excess grease to build on the container rather than ruining the fries.Get the in-house tartar sauce!Its SO good and worth the tiny bit extra mmmmmm !!! [It wasn't an option to have as takeout previously they only let u have the packages of tartar sauce which is still a no charge option]Hit the spot thanks!“
“The last time we ate there was at least a year ago. We decided to go back for lunch yesterday. We met with the same owner (probably husband and wife). They are just as friendly as before. The foods are bar-none! We had a great time doing lunch there! The restaurant is spacious and clean. It is absolutely the Number 1 place for fish and chips!“
“It is a typical fish and chips restaurant. We came in Sunday noon and it’s pretty empty, got seated immediately. We Ordered:1. Kids Chicken fingers meal 5/52. Lunch halibut fish and chips 4/53. Strawberry cheesecake from Cheesecake Factory 4/5 (small slice at $10, and it’s not freshly baked)Overall foods here are good quality. Staff is welcoming and fast service. “My hubby and I went to J’s for the first time today. The food was excellent! We both had halibut and chips which came with generous servings of fresh halibut fresh cut fries, home made coleslaw and tartar sauce. The fish and chips were cooked to perfection! I’m sorry that I don’t have any pictures to share, we were very hungry. We also had the opportunity to have a lovely conversation with the owner J. He told us all about his history in the food industry and with Fish and Chips in general. He explained to us why so many fish and chips restaurants are disappointing and don’t get the food right. J has been in business for over 30 years in various locations and it shows. We will be back again soon. We are thrilled to have found our fish and chips go-to.“
