Our go to order is 2 pieces of Halibut with 1 order of chips. Best fish and chips around. Having been around so long, the majority of their customer base are older. The interior is dated, but the staff make up for it with pleasant, efficient service.“

“Haven’t had fish & chips in a long time and the folks at this shop satisfied my cravings. Found in a small, unassuming plaza, this family-owned business is slinging out perfectly fried fish and spuds.

The folks who run this establishment are very welcoming and make you feel at home. The atmosphere here is nostalgic. It feels like I’m in my family’s kitchen from my childhood.

I ordered the halibut and chips for myself, got cod and chips for my brother, and we shared a calamari and gravy. Food was pretty good. Fish tasted buttery and delicate. Batter was thin, crispy, and flavourful. NOT overly greasy, major news! Loved the thick cut fries. The gravy really took them to the next level. Portion sizes are pretty big and these prices are insanely reasonable!

I highly recommend McCowan Fish & Chips; support small businesses! One if my favourite spots in Scarbs now. I will be back!“

“Really enjoyed their halibut fish and chips.

Didn’t get a chance to try their haddock so not sure if it’s worth the ~$5 premium but I loved my dish and would definitely go back when in the area and recommend it to others in the area too.

The dining area is relatively small as they only have 2 tables so I’d consider this primarily a takeout establishment but I was lucky to get a seat and enjoy mine fresh.

The lady was kind and took my order over the phone so I didn’t have to wait long to get it was I was in a bit of a rush too.“

“I just recently found out about this GEM of a place. I don't normally like rice but, Lilis rice is fabulous as is all of the food here. Generous portions and excellent prices.“

“Had been looking forward to visiting for ages, but the restaurant is an hour away from me. Great service. Fish was lovely, chips were delicious and so were mushy peas. Only thing that would have made it better was more selections of diet drink. Interior might need an update soon“
