Went on a Monday night. Wasn’t too busy but it wouldn’t hurt to make a reservation. They had many drink selections. We ended up getting the delicious yellowtail sashimi, duck and the Don. Everything was seasoned and presented beautifully, with unique flavours and textures. Would love to come again!
The Ryukyu was so good, and the vibes were immaculate, easy to hold a conversation and great for a nice date night.
Everything from the food to the atmosphere and service was absolutely wonderful! From the moment I walked in, I loved the cozy vibes, and every dish was prepared with so much care. The staff were super friendly and attentive as well. I can already tell this is going to be my new favorite spot🫶 Highly recommended!

New Retro - Basement Bar is a standout Japanese restaurant located in Toronto, situated below Zakkushi. The staff is kind, genuine, and professional, contributing to a welcoming atmosphere. It features a small, intimate setting with a moody and dim ambiance, enhanced by music from the 80s and 90s. The kitchen is open-style, allowing diners to see all the actions happening behind the scenes. The restaurant offers delicious food with delicate flavors, including Dashimaki, hamachi sashimi, kaisendon, wagyu beef, and somen. Guests can explore a variety of drink options, including cocktails, sakes, whiskey, and beer, with the Supreme Plum Sour being a highlight. The 6-course tasting menu is sharable, and guests can order more food or snacks a la carte if they desire. The smaller, tapa-style dishes provide solid flavors and quantity, making them great for sharing. An izakaya downstairs and a bar upstairs provide a unique experience. While some diners have noted the darkness inside, it adds to the unique atmosphere of this hidden gem, making it a perfect spot for a quiet and enjoyable time.
