“This has been a go to special occasion meal for me for years. I can’t say I’ve ever had one disappointing dish. Everything sings with flavour - bright acidity, rich fat, balanced sweetness. Just A+ to the kitchen! This time we enjoyed oysters, a crudo I can’t recall the name of, beef tartare, and the chicken. The raw dishes here are some of my favourites and I have to say the tartare was my favourite I’ve ever had. Not the typical flavour profile instead a mix of acidic dressing and possibly beef fat mayo? Soooo good. The chicken is not something I’d typically order but it was recommended on their Insta and did not disappoint. Perfectly tender, shatteringly crispy skin, umami sauce, and the best sweet creamed corn I’ve ever had. Shout of to the gai lan as well. So good.

The service is always a big part of the experience here. We felt so looked after and I was even surprised with a scoop of apple sorbet with a candle since we didn’t order dessert (it was my bday). Just above and beyond and left feeling like I was walking on a cloud. 😌“

“The food was good. The beef tartar was amazing, as expected. We love how they roasted the bread with butter; it's crispy and flavourful. The sausage was different than we expected but in a good way. I like how they did the potato; it was soft but crunchy. The portion was okay. Two main dishes were good enough for the two of us for brunch.
The restaurant is small, so you might expect to wait 15-45 minutes.
The only minus point is that our server didn’t seem very friendly and attentive. He made us feel like we did something wrong when we asked for recommendations.“

“It was one of those difficult days. I was hungry and did not feel like cooking. Had no idea what to eat or where to go for some takeout. As I walk across, I see some picnic tables and bright orange umbrellas... the people seemed happy and chill, so I was like hello Ladybug!! I was greeted with a pleasant smile and a candlelit atmosphere. I sat at the bar and chatted with the waiter. I ordered a rum & coke then asked about their menu. The hot dish of the night was a Peruvian chicken... boy o boy, it did not disappoint. It had just the right kick of flavour(I'm sure they can add some heat if you ask). I ate enough to fill my tummy and saved the rest for lunch the next day.

I would recommend this place for a chill night of catch-up or a date night.

Thank you, Ladybug, for a welcoming and enjoyable dinner!!“

“What an unreal experience at a Michelin star restaurant – truly culinary art at its finest. This was everything fine dining should be about: impeccable service, an elegant atmosphere, and unforgettable food. Our waiter, Naz, was outstanding and made my wife’s birthday feel extra special. The best part? They catered perfectly to our halal dietary preferences, which was a huge plus. The menu was beautifully curated, and my personal favorites were the wagyu beef and the egg dish. And I can’t forget to mention the bread – so fresh, paired with their incredible butter and olive oil. Just an amazing night all around. Thanks for making the bday experience unforgettable!“

“Midfield is my favourite place!! The wine list is wonderful with special descriptions under each wine, there was this wonderful creamy and textured chardonnay blend which I am still dreaming about . Not only a wine bar, midfield is also a food gem in the city! the chef has a farm where the vegetables are grown with love and you can tell, there are very creative/thoughtful dishes with the best seasonal ingredients. I have especially loved when celtuce is in season and on the menu, but year round the salmon crudo in its different iterations always hits the spot.
Beyond the food and wine, the atmosphere is warm and very cozy. Everyone working is always incredibly knowledgeable and passionate, and they seem to have an uncanny knack for recommending what I should drink, its like we have the same palate.
If you're looking for a place with amazing wine, outstanding food go to Midfield!!!!“

“Generally, the service is quite good, great atmosphere and very clear introduction on every cuisine and beverage.

First of all, great wine pair, even make us regret of not choosing the premium wine pair. The choice of wine is wise and decent, greatly fit the food, highlighting instead of interfering with the food. Wine itself do have different characteristics. Great experience with James ?

For the taste of the cuisine, the feeling is quite complicated. For the food itself, techiques and materials are fine. The main fish with the 70% lean wagyu is so impressive. Great balance between fatty and chewy. The black garlic sauce and shitake gravy are indeed 1+1>2.

But the flavor of first four cuisine are kind of overlapping. The combination of fruity sweet and sour is almost everywhere in the first 4 cuisine. It indeed interrupted us enjoy the fish dish. The Halibut in fish dish is soft and flavorful, and seasoned tomatoes are surprisingly impactful

By the way,The appearance of the cheese snack is a bit too close to one of the dessert. :)“

Some people may not like the strong fruity sourness, but I find it delicious in the recent rainy and gloomy weather in Toronto. It's a quiet cafe, so it's recommended for spending some time by yourself.“

There was nothing wrong or bad about any of the dish, but after a certain price point i would expect something more, like an experience if that makes sense. I think the restaurant has a lot of potential and the location plays a very big part of it. I think food can be improved and the industry night which is on Tuesday gives a very good value. We were very happy with the service as well. We wanted to try the Indian Street Corn appetizer, and were initially told that it was a seasonal item and it was unfortunately no longer available. However, the owner came over after and told us he had just gone to a market and found fresh corn! We knew after that appetizer that the rest of the meal was going to be great. There’s a reason it’s one of their most popular dishes.
I would recommend making a reservation. We reserved a time for Saturday night and overheard them telling other customers that they were booked for the night. This restaurant is well worth a visit!“

Tommy's Wine Bar Bar • $
1977 Dundas St W, Toronto

“Cool neighbourhood spot. 15 dollar cocktails, good menu, paper planes, negroni's, old fashions, espresso martinis, all the core ones every good cocktail bar should have. I think it's also a cafe during the day.

They had a live DJ playing some Berlin type music not too loud which was a nice touch. There is some seating space in front of the patio, and next to the building to hang out. Tall beer cans and cocktails are 7-8 bucks which is a good deal. They have some non-alcoholic beers too which is nice.

Inside has that cool vintage hipster Berlin feel to it. No cover, no lineups, just a nice local neighbourhood bar near the bridge and a bunch of other autoshops. Was walking back from an art gallery and we just literally stumbled upon it and sat down for a catch up drink.

I feel like Toronto needs more places like this. Quiet neighbourhood bars with a nice selection of music, quality cocktails, not too expensive, no lines ups. Nice slightly mature place for people to catch up and have a drink without having to venture heavily into the Dundas West bar scene where it's way more hectic. Probably fits like 20 people so it's nice and intimate. Kind of reminds me of some of the bottle shops in Montreal where you can either drink it there and vibe or take it to the park right next to it. Place has some character to it. Would like to see it have a good solid run in Toronto's independent bar scene and be supported by the neighbourhood.

Next time I'm back I'll try out the cocktail menu and see if that's fire too. Can selection was interesting. I got a fruit punch vodka seltzer with 2 grams of sugar which was good. LBGTQ+ friendly but open to anybody really. Still has that cool Dundas West OG grunge premium dive bar feel all the hipsters like me enjoy. Keep up the great work Tommy!“

On the downside, the café is quite small, and what’s really frustrating is that they allow people to work on their laptops. Because of this, I couldn’t find a seat. I feel the owners should consider restricting laptop use, as a café should be a place to enjoy coffee and conversations, not to work.“

It was a warm inviting atmosphere, my girl loved the music, the food was incredible, from the presentation to the flavour, texture combos and portioning, everything was perfect. The Waiter, who also happens to be the owner and the chef, was incredibly welcoming, knowledgeable and passionate. He was very attentive even with 4 other tables filled, everyone's food was served promptly, cutlery was replaced after each course, the wine glasses and water glasses were never empty and I cannot stress this enough, it is incredible that he does food prep, kitchen management, reservations, serving and everything that comes with owning a restaurant by himself, with such unwavering excellence. I would also like to give a shout out to the 2 kitchen staff who keep all these amazing dishes coming so quickly. I left after dinner to take my girl to a movie and very quickly fell asleep from a food coma in the theatre, it was a great night. I made sure to tip $50 in appreciation for the dining experience he has created and I will be coming back again regularly for date nights. THANK YOU.“
