“I expected a small takeout counter but was pleasantly surprised to find that Thistle is a fully decorated dining place. The staff are all very polite and I appreciate that the music is on the quieter side. It's a great place to have lunch with friends and be able to chat in between bites.

I also really liked that their tea is served in a pot rather than a single cup. I didn't need to ask for refills as often, and it could be shared with the whole table.

Their battered haddock is delicious but I also recommend trying out the haggis! The prices may be a bit higher compared to other lunch spots, but it is very much worth the price.“

We started with a crisp Caesar salad (the only one I've ever had that I can say compete with my father's - even Dad agreed) and a beautifully balanced Caprese salad with the freshest basil, both savoury and well-executed. Even the bread and butter were exceptionally phenomenal—a simple yet telling detail of the kitchen’s commitment to quality. For mains, the halibut was perfectly tender, the rack of lamb with scallops rich and flavourful, and the filet mignon flawlessly cooked with a peppercorn sauce that was absolute perfection. “I recently visited this Hakka restaurant after seeing some excellent reviews, which seemed genuine compared to many others. I decided to give it a try, and it turned out to be the best Hakka experience we had in years. The food was fresh and clean, without being overloaded with MSG like many other Hakka places. From the fried rice to the dry chilli fish, Hakka noodles, and soup, each dish had a unique taste and fantastic flavor. Unlike other Hakka spots where everything tastes the same, this place really stood out. The chicken was tender, with a light batter that made it soft and easy to eat, not hard or chewy. Chef Gopi was also incredibly helpful, taking the time to explain dishes we weren’t familiar with and guiding us toward the perfect choices. Overall, this will definitely be our go-to Hakka restaurant from now on. Amazing job, team!“

“Beautiful restaurant. Awesome food. Flavor is spot on. Ribeye medium rare cooked perfectly. Great chimichurri sauce! Brussel sprouts side is very tasty. Truffle mashed unfortunately had no truffle flavor at all. Grilled calamari was cooked well and good flavoring on the sauces. Music is abit too loud we could barely hear the waiter and the choice of music don’t really suit the ambiance of the place (it went from dance to hip hop and then country music anything but dinner music) Service was great. Portion size was good.“

“I’m 27 right now. My family ordered from here when I was a toddler, I remember eating noodles from my high chair. This is the only Chinese food I ordered my whole life. I showed my friends it, (they also loved it), my older sister who lives in Caledonia and has 3 kids, I’d order a tonn and bring it up to them…. One of these past weekends I had my best friend over and talked nonstop about “Joy Inn” , went to order and found out they are now closed. Heart. Broken. I wish I was being dramatic. Will never recover unless they reopen. Would like to start a petition for someone to carry on their legacy …“

The owner is keeping the food and quality at the same standards as his opening day ....Coco is such a pleasant person to talk to also she is always attentive and careful .Never had a glass empty ,always comes and ask if we are happy with the food if we need anything......very good customer service.
