“Phenomenal food. Great ambience. Incredible team. Inspiring story starting with chef Juan that expands into locally-sourced food, seasonality, and supporting women, BIPOC, and LGBTQ+ producers. As a solo traveler, the warmth and family-like atmosphere made this experience memorable.

It's also not as common to find a tasting menu inspired by Mexican roots, but this was one of the best meals I've enjoyed on the west coast. If you think lobster and mole won't work, you're missing out. Highly recommend!“

“Let's put another five star review on the boards! If you ever suffer the Injustice of visiting Swan Island you can totally compensate for that by eating these taquitos. If you are a foodie who likes taquitos it's worth up to a 4-mile drive. The taquitos only come in orders of four and you must choose all one Style. All the taquitos have potato inside and the meat options are served as a giant pile on top. Their well made, crunchy, clean tasting, and have just the right toppings on them.

“This is my favorite place to eat in all of Portland. They never miss. But in case you're indecisive the PASTOR (marinated and crispy pork) is a must and the CAMARONES (shrimp) is my personal favorite. I love the tacos but also the gorditas... also the fajitas plate... the French fries randomly... the orange hot sauce... the list goes on. 🤤 It literally doesn't get better than this.“

“Excellent Barbacoa burrito. WOW! This recipe has been crafted for 4 generations. The chef/owner shared his story with us. I can imagine generations making this recipe to nourish their families. He’s taken this recipe and shared it with us at this great little food cart. The guac is the perfect level of chunky for me and it’s SO FRESH. I could eat a vat of this guacamole and the orange and green salsas are some of the best I’ve ever had. Can’t wait to go back. The owner is really kind and seems really proud of his recipes and family. Also, we happened to go during happy hour- it gets you a sweet discount on a lot of the menu!“

“Food was delicious, we'll prepared with a lovely presentation. I got the El Sinaloense brunch plate and wow, the flavors of the pork were incredible and the eggs cooked perfectly. I'm a bean fanatic and this is one of the best refritos flavor in Portland. My jamaica iced tea was perfect, just the right amount of tart and sweet. The staff were incredibly nice and went out of their way to suggest items and make sure we were comfortable. We live in SE and rarely cross the river to eat. I will cross the river for this restaurant any day. I look forward to returning soon!“

“My tendency would be to come here for the pupusas because pupusas this good are not that prevalent in Portland. These are excellent and or formed fresh from scratch. The price per pupusa is slightly higher than average but these are bigger than average. I'm a big eater and made a full lunch out of two pupusas plus small chips and salsa.

Was worried about going here after reading some reviews but decided to go for it and am happy I did.

Went to San Fran and San Diego a few weeks ago and had the famous burrito shops there. All a bit overhyped but still delicious.

This can compete with em for sure. Maybe the bad reviews were due to a severe off day or something. For me and my wife we’re going back 100%.“

On top of that, the service was delightful and the wait was low (even though they were freshly preparing the steak with my meal) If you find yourself in the Hawthorne Asylum food carts, absolutely give them a try!“
