“Just moved to this neighborhood. It’s near my building so I thought o should give it a try. The staff was friendly and the atmosphere of the place was warm and great. I chatted with some of the staff and regulars while waiting for my bacon egg and cheese on an everything bagel. I received it promptly and it was delicious and perfectly prepared. I loved it and will definitely become a regular at this shining spot!“

“Came for the name “Schmear,” stayed for the bagels! As New York, New Jersey bagel connoisseurs, we were pleasantly surprised. GET YOUR BAGEL DOUBLE TOASTED! Hit this jawn up :) absolute fire!

Schmear exceeded expectation! “the Boss” bagel sandwich came with the Ketchup, salt, pepper, Taylor ham! A classic for a great price in the city! Bagel was crisp outside, with a nice chew inside. Slightly soft, breadier interior. Would’ve wanted a few more seeds on the everything egg bagel, but it packed good flavor and chew. Lots of selections, also enjoyed the blueberry with honey pecan cream cheese. Service was quick. Barista was friendly, and our dirty chai coffees were great.

Hash brown was alright for a $1.50 on the side. It didn’t seem homemade, but it was crispy nonetheless. Only minor complaint was they did give us an incorrect bagel. We ordered 1/2 a dozen online, and they switched one out by accident. So just check your online order before leaving!

“I come here with my family pretty frequently on the weekends to get bagels and they're always delicious (our favorite is the everything bagel - it's so good). Did catering this morning for teacher's appreciation week and had a HUGE order - was frankly not going to be surprised if something went wrong, like something left out or for it to not be ready yet, but nope - it was a perfect experience. Everything was ready to go. They took a few extra seconds to grab the cream cheese since they had kept it refrigerated to ensure it was still cold, and everything was organized, ready to go, with nothing missing. “I've been coming to this spot for 25+ years since it was The Bagel Factory. Although it has changed hands a couple times and is now a Manhatty, the tradition of a solid breakfast sandwich spot continues. The staff/owners are very nice and appreciative of your business. The service is quick and I haven't experienced a long line yet. There's plenty of space inside to eat in as well.

The breakfast sandwich (BEC on Everything) is always consistent, isn't messy, and is fairly well-priced compared to the premium spots in the area (Spread and Up-Ryes). Good Everything bagel with salt - fresh cooked egg and solid bacon. Nothing worse than an Everything bagel that doesn't have salt.

I would go here over Spread 10/10 times. While Up-Ryes may be a higher quality sandwich, they are more expensive and it's good to switch things up once in a while.

Also Manhatty's Vanilla Hazelnut coffee is A+. Would recommend!“

“This cute coffee place was right across the street from our hotel. They honestly had the best lattes in Philly while we were visiting- so smooth and creamy. Our kids loved the French beignets, much different than New Orleans but so yummy. Their pastries were all so fresh. We highly recommend this place“

“I work up the road and we ordered for pick up for lunch and it was delicious! BLT’s can be tricky for takeout. The bread was toasted, fresh yet crunchy and delicious. The bacon was thick and cooked perfectly with a good portion on the sandwich. The lettuce and tomato were also fresh and distributed evenly with the mayo. Served with fresh coleslaw and a pickle! My new favorite lunch spot!! Can’t wait to try the other menu items.“

“Only complaint is I usually prefer to order online and pick up, but the online ordering on their website only works about 60% of the time. I Get all the way through the ordering process only to receive an error message that “my order cannot be processed” nothing is wrong with my card, and the store is open. “Lovely place with excellent service! I recently ordered “The Cure” through DoorDash, which includes egg, brisket, bacon, and cream cheese on a bagel. When my order arrived, I noticed the bacon was missing. I double-checked the menu to make sure I wasn’t mistaken, and at first I was disappointed since I had paid for the full sandwich.

I called and left a voicemail, not expecting much, but to my surprise, the manager returned my call and quickly made things right. She was incredibly kind and professional. The sandwich itself was delicious, and the way the situation was handled made me feel like a valued customer, even though it was my first time ordering from here.

“My husband and I went for lunch today. The food was delicious (we were already familiar with the bagels), however the staff was very distracted. They were friendly and pleasant but they got some things wrong even though it wasn’t very busy. I asked for the honey mustard mayo on the side and it was omitted completely. Also, some of the apple slices still had the stickers on them which means they most likely weren’t washed or looked at prior to using. That’s pretty careless to put fruit slices with stickers in a sandwich.“

“Spread Bagelry on 20th has been one of my neighborhood breakfast spots since 2017, and it never disappoints.

Before coming here, I’d never really experienced Montreal-style bagels, and now I absolutely love them. The wood-fired finish gives them a slightly crisp exterior while still staying chewy inside, and they’re equally great as breakfast sandwiches or with schmears.

I usually order the sausage, egg, and cheese. I think the technical “standard” sandwich on the menu is bacon, egg, and cheese, but I’m a sausage guy. Add a coffee or juice, and it’s a perfect low-key breakfast.

The setup is excellent: indoor seating, outdoor tables, quick service, and enough variety to make it feel like a true breakfast spot rather than just a bagel counter. The staff is always warm and helpful, and they feel like true Philly locals. You can tell this place was built with love.

Spread also complements places like Kismet really well. Philly’s lucky to have both. Different styles, different vibes, both excellent.

My appreciation for this place even pushed me to visit St-Viateur in Montreal after seeing it featured on Somebody Feed Phil. That trip made me appreciate Spread even more because these bagels absolutely hold up. There’s also a great Philly episode of the show.
