“I had really high expectations for Restaurant Monarque and was hoping it would completely blow me away. While the food was delicious, the overall experience fell just slightly short of what I would expect from a restaurant of this caliber. Service was the main area that didn’t quite meet expectations. After being seated, we waited about 10 minutes before receiving menus and had to ask for them. Throughout the meal, interactions felt a bit rushed - several staff members who stopped by the table were somewhat brief, and on a few occasions, items like bread or water were dropped off while we tried to ask questions, but the busser had already walked away. That said, the restaurant was quite busy during lunch, so it’s possible the pace and attentiveness were impacted by that. As for the food, we ordered the albacore tuna appetizer along with the strip loin, butcher’s cut, and duck for our mains. Everything was well-prepared, though the duck portion was noticeably small. Desserts were a highlight - especially the pavlova with maracuya, which was excellent. Our server Laura was professional, though not very engaging until the very end of the meal when we were settling the bill. I would still return, as the food is strong, but I have to say that Bar George left a more lasting impression on us in terms of both food and service.“

“First off, sorry I missed my 6pm and thank god they had a 8:30pm to accommodate a lustful traveler. The Liverpool House was highly anticipated for my trip to Montreal. Walking into the space is comforting, a wine fridge with a Doc Ponds sticker reminding me of my Stowe trips with my friends, a meticulously lit and primed dining room full of patrons and service moving with grace and intention. Olivia served us tonight and she was an absolute pleasure. But the whole team took care of us. The communication between them must be top tier, because everything that should have been done was, and more. We ordered oysters, a sourdough with chanterelles and pear, deviled eggs with mustard seed, and a pork chop with spatzle. Oh and the mashed potato's! I could not have done without them to soak in the sauce from our entree. A orange wine to start from ESP and a paired Grolleau from Olivia with entrees. Eau De Vie and a beer for desert. Beverage matched the food quality with finesse. If you're visiting Montreal and want to have a memorable meal, I highly suggest spending time here. Thank you LH. “This is the first place I go whenever I am in Montreal, then I return once or twice more in the week!! Hands down Snowden Deli has the best smoked meat sandwich in town! Order it medium old fashioned and thank me later! Staff has been there a long time and is always pleasant switching between French and English seamlessly. I have had their knishes, blueberry pies and chopped liver and all were excellent! A mainstay on Decarie that I crave when I’m not there! 😋“

“Stumbled upon this place with in old Montreal seeking a brunch spot. There was a line out the door, however the inside is quite small. It’s not a true sit down spot, you order and take a number to a table — we went elsewhere because there were no tables available (note that most of the tables are more casual seating like couches with a small low table of a couple bar seats). We grabbed coffee and a croissant - both were 10/10, would try to return on a quieter day to try the food… it looked great!“

“There is a huge selection of freshly roasted coffee from various roasters in the region. From what I understand, they rent the facility to do their roasting, and then sell their beans here, as well as at their cafes. Naturally, the place smells amazing! I had an espresso and an Americano to go. Both were excellent. The biscuits/scones are the best I’ve had in a long time…especially the plain ones with fresh cream and jam. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable about all their products. The location is close to a path along the canal…a perfect stop during a bike ride or walk. Looking forward to my next visit!“

My main complaint was the lighting, I understand it’s a mood lighting but I seriously couldn’t see my food well and it was poorly lit. Not only was the atmosphere awesome, super relaxed with games, (pinball machines!!) and cool artwork, the beer was delicious! They have several European styles to balance the ipa’s on the menu and we loved everything we tried. The cream ale was my favorite and my wife loved the winter warmer. We chatted with the staff and other patrons and they were all extremely friendly and helpful, they gave us food recs and made us feel very welcome! We will definitely visit again!“
