“We just came by boat with two little kids not realizing the new fall hours. The employee working saw them peaking into the window and was so kind bringing them each out doughboy donuts. It was such a generous and thoughtful gesture that truly made these two little kids day! We look forward to coming again in the spring (during hours your open)“

“Stopped by on our way out of Portsmouth. We wanted a cup of coffee and ice cream. Both were great. People were friendly and the store had a great atmosphere. After getting our iced coffee and ice cream for the kids we went around back where there were some nice benches and shaded areas to sit.

Parking was easy to get in and out of again. If we want ice cream and coffee we will make the little extra trip outside of Middletown to stop here.“

“I visited the Portsmouth location for the second time this morning and this is a perfect first date spot imo. The large wraparound deck is so cute & cozy, like a farmhouse porch. & the coffee 🤩 I had a tiramisu latte last time, a cherry Garcia latte this time- I was not disappointed either time, the flavors were accurate without being overwhelming or weakening the espresso, & oh so delicious. The food is even better; the attention to detail & balance of flavor in the dishes is off the charts. I recommend the avocado toast or whipped feta plate, and if you’re not into coffee, their teas and lemonades are just as amazing.“

“We enjoyed having breakfast at this wonderful place while in Newport, RI. The people who own it and those who work there are AMAZING, friendly, and take the time to talk to customers while keeping service at the top of their list. They (from the kitchen to the front door) look like they love working there and have created a loving family environment. Of course, the line was out the door and down the street, but that was okay because everyone enjoyed visiting each other. There is just one warning, the portions are enormous. You know when my husband can't finish it, it's a lot. 🤣“

“First time try…. played it safe, and got my ice caramel latte, although they had so many specialty coffee’s that I was tempted to try. Owner and or employee recognized we were new faces and asked if it was our first time. When I said yes he handed me a free large sample of their “OG” which was very good, and I would def go back for or try another specialty! “The piadina are amazing along with the homemade pasta and prepared items. The Portsmouth store is much easier to access than Middletown (parking) and the staff are great. I would give 5 stars if they were open til at least 5:30pm weeknights. It’s hard to get there by 5pm and I imagine they lose quite a bit of business from those of us wanting to grab dinner on the way home from work.“

“This place is a gem! We came for breakfast and the donuts were GOOD. The chourico rolls too. I got an iced coffee as well.
We’ve also tried this place for dinner and it was also good! The egg rolls were my favorite, the chicken had its own breading? It was crispier than other places I’ve had.

“Overall very good food, chefs are great. Summer hires are rude and impatient however. So just “for future reference”: The line gets crowded quickly, small place. To avoid the staff becoming frustrated with you, make sure to: 1) Pick your menu items quickly and 2) pick drinks quickly, and if they are from fridge take drinks with you to final register If you do not do this, you may be called out in public by folks at register, and it can be a little embarrassing. Check menu online and know what you want before you go and you should have a good experience!“

“Steph and the team at scratch were SUPERB! Our catering order was perfect (tho we were sad the croissant machine was down) every thing was piping hot (or nice an cool). Everything was SOOO good. Ordering was easy, Steph ensured we had a great variety and enough to feed the post-wedding crowd. We did have breakfast here and it was stellar! Any event you need catered, be sure to check Steph and the team out. You will, NOT be disappointed!“

“We were vacationing in Newport from Wisconsin and stopped in at Cappy’s. Sue the bartender was friendly and a wonderful bartender. The owner Joe, what can I say….what a guy! Joe saw us walking to our Airbnb and yelled at us on the street asking when we were headed back home. Joe is a gem of a bartender. He has a gift of gab and can hand out the bs too. Nice local establishment with friendly customers and bartenders. We had Dan as a bartender too and he was a friendly, great guy! “Great experience at Custom House Coffee! My girlfriend sent me on a mission to grab some blueberry coffee and blueberry scones, and she absolutely loved them! The place was pretty busy, but they have a sign that says “Long line moves fast,” and they weren't kidding! The line moved surprisingly quickly, and everything went smoothly.
