“The food is delicious, and everyone is super friendly and helpful. I love the barbecue, the fried catfish, and the fried okra. All the desserts are fantastic, especially the banana pudding and the bread pudding.“

“I don’t have the best food palate. Like I can’t pick out individual ingredients in a dish you cooked, but that aside I’d like to think of myself as a foodie. Was my first time visiting here on recommendation from a coworker and I can say I’ll definitely be adding this place to my rotation of restaurants. I tried a little bit of everything, sides and meats. Best meat from menu were for sure the ribs. I had a bad experience at another restaurant (not Soulman’s) where I had a full rack of ribs and I think about twenty minutes into my meal they were impossible to chew. In comparison I ate here for well over an hour and the meat was still coming cleanly of the bone. Didn’t need barbecue sauce, I actually kept forgetting to put it on. Best sides were the mac and cheese and the creamed corn. The mac was creamy but not runny noodles cooked just right and had a crust for a nice change in texture as well. The creamed corn was amazing… not runny at all, totally emulsified. Whatever sweetener was added developed this subtle caramel-y flavor. I would’ve ordered 16oz for myself if I didn’t get so much food already.
What BLEW ME AWAY: was the staff particularly a gentleman by the name of Yanzey. I’ve worked in restaurants/customer service for a little over ten years now and I’d like to think I’ve got little to learn from someone else. I’m excellent at making connections with customers and it’s something I take an appropriate amount of pride in. If you would describe yourself similar to me then come to Soulman’s when Yanzey’s here! You’ll find what you have left to learn when it comes to taking care of and recognizing your patrons! Yanzey gave me the names of the other two staff, but unfortunately I can’t recall their names… they however were exactly the same as Yanzey—attentive to everyone that walked in the door. In particular I heard “it’s good to see you again” quite a few times in just the ninety minutes I was there. Then I overheard a conversation Yanzey was having with another patron who I gathered spoke Swahili. My jaw hit the floor at the connection he was making with her: this guy was SPEAKING IN SWAHILI to her and sharing the conversational phrases he had been learning!! The delight in this lady’s voice I heard was so special. Somebody for a moment recognized her individually in a way that I’m sure doesn’t happen often. That’s when I threw my hands up and was like “alright who is this guy?!” Unreal. If you come here with a complaint about the staff you would’ve complained no matter who it was and you’re just having a bad day, because these guys are perfect! Thanks everyone! I’ll be back for more ribs and creamed corn! :^)“

“After having some really big issues with my old venue so I was a bit on a budget. My wedding planner had told me they cater weddings so I had reached out to Erika. Since the start she has been so kind and accommodating. We had a food tasting with her and she walked us through everything. With her help she put a lot of my stress at ease and I can’t wait for her to cater our wedding! I can’t say enough good things about her.“

5/22/2025 - Stopped in to get a Jalapeno, Egg, and Cheese Breakfast taco. 1 was all I needed! It was loaded with plenty of sausage, and eggs. The flavor was really good, and the salsa went nicely with it. Price was reasonable for the amount you get. You won't feel cheated, as with other places that serve Breakfast Tacos.

Update- 8/27/25- I really like the quality and amount of brisket I get in their sliced brisket sandwiches. The meat is perfectly smoked, and tender. I bring my own sauce, or I add my own at home. I give it a different flavor, and make it lower carb. Yum! Two thumbs up to Rudy's, and the nice friendly employees!“

Brenden was fantastic at helping me navigate the menu and offered great suggestions. I went with the honey smoked wings and potato salad. Really good and I’d totally order that again. The house made potato chips were a hit for our whole table.

“I was amazed by how it taste: the lamb skew, fried noodles, the grilled veggies, tendons and everything that we ordered. I spent years in Beijing and this place even beats most places back in china, I guarantee you. I would definitely come back every chance I get.“

“Amazing!!! The service was wonderful and the sweet lady at the counter had the most kind smile! The Kimchi Jjigae was probably the best I have ever had. The Kimchi tasted fresh and homemade, along with their other side dishes. My mother said that the egg rolls were the best she has ever eaten as well! The Japchae is also a great choice, very flavorful and the bulgogi was perfect. I could not recommend this place enough, it deserves every star possible. If you are in Plano and looking for Korean food, I would suggest Dawon over any other place for sure.“

“Lonnie was friendly, knowledgeable, and professional. Place was spacious, clean, and fun. The food was excellent, although i would like if they had a small plate option for lunch, but i digress. I was greeted by 3 different people and my food came out quickly. Lonnie told the manager Derrick that it was my first time there and he brought me a little treat with my food. The meat is extremely tender and juicy. The sauces are not your typical flavors, but don't count them out, they perfectly complement the flavor profiles of the entrees. The portions are generous, and the sides taste homemade, really fresh and good. You're not going to beat the prices, especially for the BBQ meats. “My husband and I ate here last night when we walked in the door the waitress (young lady) was warm and welcoming as she explain the food style to us. so we stayed and she helped explain the menu to us as everything was written in Chinese. We ordered a few items and loved the flavor! Spicy 🌶 was what she described the food would be, it was but the amounts of other spices and herbs balanced it out just right! We will be back lots more to try on this menu.“
