“Looking for a bbq sandwich near me in a city I’m not familiar with. Dickeys came up at the top of the list. A bit disappointed upon arrival to a gas station, but after tasting the pulled pork, bbq beans & banana pudding, I knew I’d be back for the food, not the ambiance. Absolutely heaven! They had cole slaw, broccoli salad, mashed potatoes & fries as well as brisket & pork. I found the prices to be very reasonable also! Yum!“

“We came here yesterday for breakfast because one of my friends told me about the great value and how good it was. I was apprehensive about going back because we have eaten here for lunch and dinner before and it’s been hit or miss. The very first time I came here the brisket was moist and almost as good as Hutchins in McKinney. I kept telling my wife and son how great the food was, but when we came, the brisket was on par with Spring Creek BBQ. Very dry.

I will say the service has always been great and the atmosphere is really nice. And I do love that during lunch and dinner they give you kettle chips to snack on while you wait for your food.

So back to breakfast…

I probably will not go back to Starwood Café after eating breakfast at Tenders. You spend about the same money if not less and get way more food (that tastes as good if not better). And to be able to have brisket for breakfast, that’s a win in my book any day of the week.

Thankfully, the brisket we had was incredibly moist and very flavorful. The eggs were perfectly cooked to the way we asked for them to be. The hashbrowns had a great texture and great flavor. My son and I did not care for the potatoes, but my wife liked them and they are good if that’s your thing. Tender’s sausage has always been great so that was enjoyable as usual. The pancake was flat out amazing. It’s a very large and thick pancake, but had crispy edges, soft interior, and the syrup and butter were very flavorful.

I think the one letdown for me was the biscuits and gravy. The gravy had great texture and flavor (although you could get a little bit more for how many biscuits you’re getting) but the problem was the biscuits were overcooked. A great biscuit has just a little bit of crunch on the outside and is tender and soft all the way throughout… but the biscuits that came with our biscuits and gravy were mostly crunchy and a little bit soft in the middle. I’m not sure if that’s the way that they cook them here or if those just happen to be overcooked. Either way we still are most of them, just didn’t eat the hardest parts of the biscuits.

“Great hole in the wall Mexican bbq place. I had some Al pastor tacos and brisket sandwich. The tacos had onions and cilantro and I got the green medium hot salsa (which was a good medium spice level). The brisket sandwich was good sized and came with pickles and onions and warmed bbq sauce.“

“I got the lunch special of 1 meat and 1 side as well as the lemon cake dessert. The brisket was very good in my opinion, perfect balance of fat and lean meat; loved the sauce that was on the side, it was very peppery but balanced with a slight sweetness. The Mac and cheese was a semi disappointment due to it being spiral noodles but the cheese sauce and breadcrumbs really bring it back to being tasty. Lastly, the dessert, smoked lemon cake. It was hard to judge it, they forgot the berries so it was good but not quite up to par, the cake portion did not taste smoky, was very dense but still moist. Comes with this lemon drizzle/curd sauce that was very good. Worth a visit for the atmosphere and food, but if you're looking for solid BBQ I would give this place a pass and maybe go to hard 8, Hutchinsons or even maybe Loro if you're looking for something more modern.“

I always get the loaded cheese fries to start, and the charro beans as a side. The wait staff is very attentive. It is also dog friendly.
