“This place was better than I expected. I didn’t go in with low expectations, but wasn’t sure what my experience would be. Food was great. Service was decent. And the atmosphere was very chill. Perhaps could be a little cooler inside. But I’m more focused on the food. I went for the jerk chicken while my wife went for the oxtail. Both of us were pleased with our meals.“

“This place was probably one of my favorite dining experiences in DC. One of the reviews I read mentioned you’ll probably end up ordering 40-50% of the menu, and they were definitely right. For two people, we ordered 1 snack, 2 appetizers, 1 item from the “with bread” section, and 1 large share. We also got the rum cake (which was so good!) for dessert and we each had a drink. We left very full and with some leftovers from the large share.

All that aside, this place absolutely lived up to the hype! Each food item was packed with flavor and had beautiful presentation. The servers were kind and quick to help. Food comes out quickly which was nice! The music was on the louder side, but the playlist was great. We could still hear each other.

One thing to note is the menu changes slightly, so what you see in other reviews will more or less be what is available (with slight changes). For instance, we saw reviews about the chargrilled oysters but when we saw the menu it was (raw) oysters escovitch.

“This place has authentic Dominican cuisine. Very limited in their buffet options though. Their seasoning is very much like back home, so much savoring and delicious meals. “My friends and I went to ISLA yesterday for my good friend’s birthday dinner. The restaurant’s atmosphere is very sexy, modern and the center chandelier is so beautiful. We had the octopus, lamp chops, oxtail patties, crab patties, Brussel sprouts and golden rice. They were all really good. Our waiter was great and attentive. The only gripe I would say that I noticed was in respect to the dress code. When I arrived I noticed that someone was dressed in extremely short shorts (I could see the persons cheeks) and they were allowed in without anyone saying anything to them. As we were leaving though a group of women entered the restaurant and one of them had a sleeveless top and was showing some cleavage. The host told her that there was a dress code and offered her a jacket. That seemed very inconsistent to me 🤷🏽‍♀️. I also don’t think person was dressed as revealing as the prior individual that I had seen.“

This spot is like the song you skipped and later found out it was fire?. When you bite into the wings you get a bold boost of flavor that rhythms through your body. “This place is great and fast and the barbecue rib, beef is the best! The no fat and best meat and the most seasoned. I don’t like pork ribs and they offer beef ribs. The best quality too! Grateful for the money spent, I have come back multiple times for it!“

“Hands down the best Jamaican food in the area. I always get the jerk chicken with white rice and Mac and cheese. My husband gets curry shrimp but tonight he had steam fish. The first steam fish I've had that wasn't dry. We always get some patties and their house juice.

I also like to add it's the FIRST Jamaican restaurant we've been in where owners and employees and nice. My husband is Jamaican so I've been to a good number. I appreciate you guys!!“

“i went for the late night lounge upstairs and had a wonderful time. Wes made sure our section was settled and that we had everything we needed. The DJ was a vibe and our bottle girl was very pleasant and was also present without seeming pushy. The bartender was not playing and poured really good margaritas and shots that kept the party flowing. I would def return For the cute lounge, and look forward to coming back soon to experience the restaurant. All of the food looks delicious!“

“Solid flavor and plenty of food. There’s enough free parking to help with your trip, but if really busy might be harder to park. The server for taking orders is very friendly, with a casual dining environment. The food comes in a healthy portion, with relatively decent flavors. While not my first pick, I think this place is worth checking out.“

When I mentioned it was my first time, they kindly offered me a sample of curry chicken, brown stew, and oxtail over rice. Each one was full of flavor — so good that I had a hard time choosing!

I ended up ordering the brown stew chicken with rice, cabbage, and a side of plantains. Everything was cooked to perfection. The chicken was juicy, tender, and full of flavor. The plantains were fresh off the stove — perfectly sweet and soft.

I absolutely loved my experience here and will definitely be coming back. Highly recommend giving them a try!“

“From the waiter, the restaurant is now fully absorbed into the deli as a full service deli sit down more than the older full restaurant. The BBQ is from another location and fantastic taste but smaller portions than if you goto the New Mexico location. Other food there is now so so. Used to be our goto spot but in losing its original flair and now half its seating it is mostly just there as a quiet space if you get deli food.“

“I went to brunch on Sunday, and it was all-you-can-eat with unlimited mimosas, lemon drops, and margaritas. Let me just say—this was some of the best food I’ve ever had in my life! Every single thing I tried was amazing. Not one dish missed.

The bartender was incredible! My glass was literally never empty. Every time I took a few sips, she was right there with a refill. The service was top-notch, and everyone was so friendly and attentive. They cleared our dirty plates quickly, the food was always fresh, hot, and seasoned to perfection, and the whole atmosphere was a vibe. The music, the people, the energy—everything was perfect.
