“Lil Cow Cafe Bistro, located in Rolling Valley Shopping Center in Burke, offers a cozy, farmhouse-like atmosphere with large windows that flood the cafe with sunlight. It serves fresh, high-quality food, especially sandwiches, with a diverse menu, friendly staff, and charming fall decorations. We loved the large logo in the center. The coffee, brewed with La Colombe beans, was excellent—robust and not watered down.

We were delighted to find perfect sandwiches this morning. You can choose your bread from Whole Wheat, Soft White, Wrap, Sourdough, or Ciabatta. We highly recommend:
1. Southwest Wrap, containing grilled chicken, avocado, spinach, tomatoes, onions, provolone cheese, and Chipotle Aioli. All ingredients were fresh, tasty, and the sauce complemented everything nicely.
2. Gourmet Bacon Chicken Cheesesteak sandwich, made with grilled chicken breast, crispy bacon, and cheese on an Italian Hoagie roll, and served with French fries. The ingredients were fresh, the sauce excellent, and the bread light and not dense, resulting in a satisfying sandwich.“

“I can’t say enough great things about this tiny family owned and run business, first we were greeted with a huge smile, seated immediately and watered within a min, this from our 60/70 year old server. He was very helpful and went out of his way to make sure we had a memorable meal. The food is amazing , really really amazing. The creativity behind the sauces truly sets this place apart, and I even heard the chef makes his own soy sauce—which absolutely shows in the depth of flavor. The Japanese uni was beautifully presented, and the tuna was a deep, rich red that melted in my mouth, finished perfectly with a delicate sprinkle of truffle oil. Their consistency is actually really impressive - I’ve never been disappointed by a single thing, and I’ve eaten A LOT of their food. But everything is so good, so I haven’t really made my way outside of the same few items from their menu. The difference is that the staff actually care about their customers, and take pride in their food. It’s not so common these days, and is a pleasant surprise. We ordered prime rib, pork, and shrimp as the proteins. I had a tonkotsu + tomato broth and my husband had the spicy miso + tonkatsu broth. Everything was very fresh and flavorful. “In recent years there seems to be a proliferation of small-plate Mediterranean restaurants. But Yayla remains as one of the best, reasonably priced originals in northern Virginia. There is a pleasing range of mezzes, salads, entrees hot and cold, flat breads, spreads, etc . I had a Yayla mule, 3 spreads, lemony rice soup and superb shrimp. Friends chose a range of other dishes. I can guarantee whatever you choose, you won’t be disappointed. Everything is flavorful, fresh and beautifully presented. “Clifton Cafe is our new favorite evening spot on the weekends. We’ve been customers since the original owners opened it years ago, but until this past fall we did more to go orders than dine in since the service and time to prep food was often slow and unpredictable. Now we go almost every week. We’ve noticed big improvements since they expanded their kitchen and redesigned the bar area. Their new pull up bar is beautiful and spacious. The new owners and management are great too! We love the evening staff as well, especially Ian and Nicole. They are very personable, accommodating, and attentive. They have great happy hour specials from 3-6 and make the best margaritas and espresso martinis. Some of our favorite dinner items include the crab dip, Mediterranean salad, cuban sandwich, burgers, crab cakes, quiche specials, banana pudding, and too many crepes to name! We also appreciate that they have become more family friendly. We had a last minute party of 14 on a Friday evening (half of which were children ages 1-11) and they didn’t hesitate to pull some tables together in a private nook to accommodate our large group (again thanks to Ian and Nicole). We noticed they finally got a changing table in the large bathroom, which they are about to install. Our kids are past that stage, but there were several times when they were little that a changing table would have been helpful.“

“Not sure how to graciously ask this question, but I am usually taken back when I see foodies without prices on their menu. It makes me think those preparing the menu may be arrogant to believe that price means nothing to patrons. Price matters. Are foods and drinks priced too high to be transparent? Are all patrons so well off that price to them really does not matter? I will sometimes pass over a place if they hide their prices, just because there are so many others that do not hide them. The atmosphere just by itself deserves a reluctant visit.“
