New American Restaurants in Fredericksburg, VA

“Visited here yesterday at 5:00'ish. This restaurant is very busy & the food is fantastic. This was my party's first visit here.

Mixed experience. The waitstaff here deserves 5 stars, but the host/hostess stand deserves 0 (sorry, not even a 1 that a smile alone would have warranted). Unfortunately a 0 & a 5 equals a 2.5 ⭐ rating for service. Since I was unable to give a 2.5 I rounded up to a 3 in favor of the server.

The Bad: Hostesses/check-in staff were not friendly at all, not smiling or exchanging even slight pleasantries upon your arrival. Not sure if they got overwhelmed due to a full restaurant with people waiting in the front & outside to be seated (though I think that would be expected on Memorial Day weekend), but the general feeling was rushed, overwhelmed & inconvenienced by your arrival. They seemed to treat everyone this way whether they were people dining in, taking out, or delivery drivers. There seemed to be a lack of communication between people working there & the waitstaff and kitchen. The entire front-of-restaurant vibe was unprofessional, uncomfortable & tense, and I feel management needs to address this as it sets the tone for the night, or at least the early part of it.

The Good: The 3 stars for service is all due to the servers here, who are very friendly & deserve 5 stars!

Our waitress was absolutely phenomenal. She was attentive, friendly, and saved the evening. The food was delicious and well-prepared. It even smelled wonderful while we waited in the front and smelled orders leaving the restaurant. Timing was about what you would expect for it being very busy.

Overall, I liked the restaurant but the initial entry experience was highly disappointing. One member of my party said she was not impressed & that it left such a bad impression of the restaurant that she will not return. I might give them another try, but probably not at a busy hour or on a holiday based on this experience.“

“A last minute early dinner invitation and we decided on Harry's Ale House at Harrison Crossing. We arrived at 5 pm. About 75%of the tables were full. Not bad for a Saturday. Michele was our waitstaff and she was very polite, attentive, and patient. My dinner companion and I were so busy talking, we didn't look at the menu and she was kind enough to keep checking on us. Thank you Michele for your patience. I ordered the steak salad and my companion ordered the salmon. The meals came out in a timely fashion as we had enough time for a cocktail but didn't wait beyond that. My companion's salmon dinner was quite good. I ordered my steak medium. It came out med-rare which is actually how I like it. My only comment is the steak was tough to chew although it was cooked nicely. I suggest slicing the steak into thinner slices and that will remove the toughness.We had a pleasant evening. The atmosphere was lively but not so loud I couldn't comfortably carry on a conversation. I have eaten at Harry's several times but usually carry out on my way home (also a good option).“

“This is going to sound weird but the snap beans with mushrooms I had last night will not be soon forgotten as they were delicious. The crab cakes were unexpectedly spicy which many will appreciate but I would liked a warning. Our server was super.“

“Stopped in randomly and we enjoyed everything! Hubs had the burger and an Old Fashioned. I had the seasonal drink, Sweater Weather, and the veggie quesadilla. Both were delicious!!! If you are in the area, stop in!“

“Went to Amy's Cafe for the 1st time yesterday. We were treated with great food (Appetizer was Reuben egg rolls, onion rings, entree was Chicken fried steak ,mashed potatoes and delicious green beans with bacon) great food and great service (Thank You Betty).“
