There is a pleasing range of mezzes, salads, entrees hot and cold, flat breads, spreads, etc . I had a Yayla mule, 3 spreads, lemony rice soup and superb shrimp. As fans of Persian cuisine and frequent shoppers at Yekta Market in Rockville— having recently tried our hand at making Persian dishes like Fesenjan at home— coupled with all of the culinary accolades— we had high expectations for JOON. It not only met but exceeded them. Mast-o Musir, yogurt dish with Persian dried shallot and rose petal, was exceptional— more elevated and nuanced than any we’ve had. The mushroom Khoresht stew with white truffle was another highlight, offering perfectly balanced flavors something hard to do with white truffles and a satisfying richness, complemented by the perfectly crunchy Tahdig, iconic golden rice crust. The braised lamb shoulder which Yacine suggested was the undeniable highlight of the meal I which each dish was excellent. Tender and flavorful, it was paired beautifully with texture. It’s a signature dish that rivals the best we’ve ever had, bringing to mind the legendary Bo Ssam pork shoulder from David Chang’s Momofuku— bold, unforgettable, and expertly prepared. The Gormeh Sabzi, short rib stew with its delicious sour depth, was excellent but couldn’t quite match the lamb’s showstopping brilliance. Two very minor points. While the food and service are exceptional, the main dining room lighting would benefit from dimming. A water filtration water system could make a big difference as well. JOON has firmly secured its place as a must-visit dining destination for us. We can’t wait to return and explore more of the menu.“

FOOD 9.5/10 : Everything here is small plates. Well, not EVERYTHING, but mostly, get small plates with the expectation of sharing. Our server Gabriella made this clear at the beginning, and it was easy to add more food. The things that were suggested were delightful.

SERVICE: 12/10 Without flaw. The restaurant really is a tightly run ship. Dishes we were done with were taken by seemingly any staff member with free hands, and never lingered on the table. The ... Maitre d? Manager? Madea especially did everything she could to make a Wednesday night date night special, especially by sharing her expertise and showcasing outstanding judgment when it came to picking the perfect wine. She was clearly a busy woman, but at no moment did we feel like an inconvenience.

VIBE: 9/10 I would prefer to dress up for a place like this, but I saw plenty of people in street clothes. It was a casual enough vibe that everyone seemed welcome despite their attire. The decorations were tasteful. Seating was comfortable. This was not the sort of place insistent on flipping tables ASAP. The lighting was a little dim for anyone who needs reading glasses. Toilet paper was above average quality for a restaurant, but not lavish.

WINE LIST: well organized, easy to read, but tailored towards those who are already knowledgeable. I saw several wines I had never heard of, but since there was knowledgeable staff on hand to help guide one to a wine (that blew our socks off and make us question whether every wine we've ever previously had was a waste of taste buds) we weren't intimidated. The wine glasses were nice.

COST: a well padded dinner for two was ~$280. It was worth it. We will be back.“

“CAVA is ideal for hosting groups. I like their website. It is very convenient and user friendly. I usually pick the pre fixed combo from the menu and it works well. Last time I chose to make my own. The user friendly website made us so easy to pick exactly what you like within limits of offering. For the first time I received my order slightly mixed up. I asked for dressing on the side and it came dressed-in. I ordered it with pita 🫓 which never arrived. The food was still good. I'm not sure if I shouldn't just stick to the preset combinations.“

Adding feta cheese, cucumber, and Kalamata olives created an outstanding combination of flavors. Everything was well balanced and delicious.

“Cafe Monaco is absolutely the best kept secret in the McLean/Tysons Corner area.

They have another location that is bigger than this one, but honestly, this one is the better spot for food, service, and the overall vibe. I actually live closer to the Falls Church location but still make the drive here because the staff are always super friendly and the experience is consistently good. On Fridays and Saturday, it can get a little busy a hectic but the wait usually isn’t too bad, maybe around like 10–15 minutes. My order has always come out right and the food tastes fresh and delicious every time I’ve been here.

The place itself is clean, condiments are always stocked, and there’s a really nice mural on the wall that gives it a cozy feel. Nice music playing most of the time I come and seating is a little tight but it’s comfortable. Every time I come in,I’m greeted right away and the staff have been the same since I first started coming so they know what they’re doing. If there ever is an issue, they’re quick to fix it. If you have any allergies or food restrictions, they are pretty accommodating to requests so that is something to consider.
