“The new chef has elevated the menu. The salmon was cooked to perfection accompanied by a creamy and tasty risotto. They have an excellent beer and cocktail selection. Service by Lance was excellent, and the owner Ryan was out circulating among the customers. Always a nice touch. This is a very nice, well-maintained hostel, with a really high quality restaurant. Perfect for locals and visitors in the Mad River Valley area.“
“The food is becoming legendary. The sandwiches are ENORMOUS and delicious. The staff are great. Seating is a little sparse but it's fit to feed a village or small army of hungry family huddling in a condo rather than braving the crazy pubs. Worth the visit.“

“I needed something to eat and drink after a seriously awesome morning of riding the mountain. I settled on Castlerock mostly for the full service nature and I wanted to sit at a bar and have a draft beer. I ended up having the grilled cheese with bacon, caramelized onions, and apple butter. OMG I never thought to do sweet onions and apple butter, a stroke of genius. Also for 15$ with some parm fries included I felt like it was a steel given what mountains charge for food. Beer was cold, it was just what I needed before round 2.“
“Hands down the best mountain bar at the bush.The food is incredible and the vibe can’t be beat.Don’t miss the wunderburger. Get an extra side on wunder sauce.Also the chicken bacon ranch is incredible. Love it here. Literally think about when I’ll be getting back during the off season“
“This place is amazing. There should be more theaters like this but I don't know it would work anywhere else. They have two theaters and a restaurant. You can either eat in the restaurant and then see a movie or place an order in the restaurant and come back and get your food and drinks when it's ready.In the theaters, most of the theater seats have been cleared out and replaced by couches or folding chairs. There are a few tables you can grab to setup your food and drinks on. The earlier you get there, the better seat setup you can get.Movie tickets are reasonable ($11) and they also have popcorn and candy. We saw Wonka and the picture quality was great and the sound was normal (not crazy loud).This place will absolutely be a regular stop for us in the Mad River Valley!“
“My husband and I stayed at the Mad River Barn for our friends wedding weekend!! It was absolutely incredible. Taika at the front desk was so incredibly helpful, she went out of her way to help us book massage appointments on the day of the wedding (massage therapists came in special just for us at her request!) and she suggested some great lunch spots. She was always available to help answer questions and had great tips for our stay. We enjoyed breakfast each morning included with our stay - highly recommend it was delicious. Fresh homemade jam, potatoes perfectly seasoned, and homemade granola were great touches to the waffles pancakes and eggs. On the night of the wedding, Dave the owner went above and beyond to personally serve us drinks and apps around a perfectly set up fire pit before dinner. The atmosphere at this venue is a little slice of paradise. Dinner here was out of this world - all the wedding guests said the cast iron chicken, steak and cheese sandwich, and steak special were the best they’ve ever had. We agree! The chef came out to personally greet us too. What an absolutely wonderful stay/dinner/wedding it couldn’t have been more perfect. Thank you to all who helped make it an amazing day!“
“Came here with a big group, a few of us were foodies from NYC. Thoroughly impressed by the food, ambience and service. This place is a gem, everything from homemade gnocchi, to mussels, to whole grilled fish was fantastic. Really impressive finding something like this out in rural Vermont.“
“Close to sugarbush and mad river ski resorts. Delicious breakfast included is made to order. Staff is very helpful and friendly. Rooms are clean and comfortable. We had dinner here three nights and all meals were wonderful. Would definitely stay here “
“We have stayed here many, many times and on an off-holiday weekday there's a chance that you'll be in a room alone, otherwise you might be sleeping in a room with possibly several strangers ...It's really well kept and clean.There are several rooms of varying sizes and temperatures, I remember we stayed in one that was so hot, usually we stayed in what I think is the dorm and it's usually much cooler.The bathrooms are clean and nice.The bar and restaurant is excellent and certainly a reason to stay there.Very cool/cute/quirky decor.Food & drinks: There's an excellent bar and eating area. The ambience is excellent and good enough to travel to.“
