“We had paneer pakora: presentation, serving size, sauces, preparation - all excellent. Then their special biryani: it comes with a fresh delicious sauce as well- fantastic flavor. And chicken tikka masala: the chicken was just barely charred which was wonderful, and the sauce is fabulous. Garlic naan: perfect. Very outgoing and welcoming server. It is a little hole in the wall, but their decor makes it cozy and comfortable.“

“The location is isolated but the food is delicious. Saag, tikka masala, korma all good. They have dark meat! I much prefer dark meat over white meat. Mango lassi also delicious. “I first heard about Kanishka's Des Moines location through a friend who saw somebody raving about it in a Seattle foodies group here on FB. My friend and I went to check it out and, well, it's my new favorite restaurant. I've been here 3 times and Door Dashed it once in the past month. The food every time has been absolutely fantastic, and the portion size are quite generous. The appetizers are almost entree-sized; the first time I went there with a friend, we filled up on appetizers and had to get our entrees to go. Dish recommendations: Chicken 65 and Fish Pakoras for appetizers; Mixed Grill, Lamb Vindaloo, and Paneer Korma entrees. Also, listen to your host as it seems like they're always trying out new dishes that haven't made it onto the menu yet.“

“I just decided to stop in here in a whim when I was dropping my dog at the groomer's because I have a surplus of tzatziki at home that I wanted to grab some pita bread to have with. Decided to get an order of hummus and some baklava as well to see if I needed to come back at a later time and try more items....I'm so glad I did because I'm blown away by how good this hummus/pita/baklava is. It's so good that I haven't even pulled the tzatziki out of the fridge to eat with this stuff. And I have way too much tzatziki! And it's GOOD tzatziki too! I just don't need it because that's how great the hummus from Gyro Shawrma is.“

“If you’re heading to an Indian restaurant like Jot, start with their breakfast or lunch specials—they’re clearly a highlight and worth trying before anything else on the current main menu-photos were added.

As usual, I asked the cashier, both girls at the front were very friendly btw, what their favorite dish was, and I went with their recommendation-Gobi Parantha for a breakfast item and look at how low the prices are, even during tough times nowadays. The wait was pretty reasonable, around 10–15 minutes, and they call you up once your order is ready so you can grab your plate and find a seat.

When I finally sat down and saw the food, I was honestly impressed. Each piece was about 10½ inches in diameter—huge portions. Imagine eating two of those along with yogurt and tangy pickles—what more could you want? It’s one of those classic North Indian comfort dishes that just hits perfectly, especially on a relaxed weekend afternoon.

I highly recommend trying their specials first and then deciding what else to explore. Based on my experience, I’d say this place stands out compared to other nearby restaurants—not just in flavor, but also in presentation and portion size. It’s hard to find others that match this combination so well.
