“I didn't do any research to see what kinds of things were available at Friday Harbor because I was here for a wedding, so I assumed that there'd be a lack of variety on San Juan Island, akin to what you'd experience in many rural and suburban parts of the United States. As such, my mind was blown when I smelled the French-style pastries, tacos, skewers, paella, and more at this farmer's market. Why are there so many amazing things to eat at this farmer's market? Seeing a Tibetan momo stand on this island off the coast of Washington floored me. And the craziest part? Everything tasted so good. The carne asada tacos were spicy and flavorful, the skewers were tender and marinated well, and the seafood paella was the star of the show, piled high with mussels and clams and prawns. That being said, the San Juan Island Farmer's Market is perhaps closer to a night market than a farmer's market, not only because of a Chelsea Market-like collection of food vendors, but because there was a distinct lack of produce here. One of the joys of a farmer's market is to crushing some fruit that you just bought, but there were none in sight over here. Although if I were to guess, it would be that transporting all the produce to and from the island for one day of a farmer's market isn't necessarily profitable and has a high potential to generate food waste. While I did love what was here, I couldn't help but feel that I was missing something critical to a *farmer's* market.“
“I came to Friday Harbor for a couple days this past summer and I will say, Riptide Cafe has to be one of the best spots in the town. I got breakfast here every morning and it was 10/10 every time. Lines tend to be a little long in the mornings but for me it was not a huge issue as my food came out relatively quickly. They have incredible smoothies and delicious breakfast sandwiches. Not a ton of seating inside but plenty outside with a gorgeous view of the docks right there! Overall I think this place is a wonderful spot, if you come to Friday Harbor make sure to give this place a visit.“
“Great coffee place right next to the ferry terminal. Within walking distance. Coffee was yummy, breakfast sandwich was really good, and the staff were helpful and friendly! I also loved all of the fox themed merchandise for sale. The bathroom was pretty gross. Needs a scrub down!“
“I'm already looking forward to returning to try more menu items. The peanut pepper wrap was vegan without any modifications, and they let me leave out certain veggies on request. It was ginormous, delicious and seemed relatively healthy. Can be made gluten free if ordered as a salad, per the staff. The staff was very friendly and the outdoor seating was beautiful, with a large lawn, lots of trees, and a distant ocean view. Nice lunch spot with my dog. Highly recommend!“
“Last year, I had the pleasure of visiting the incredible Orcas Cafe. However, today's review focuses on the present moment. My girlfriend, who is currently in Orcas for business, was having a rough morning. Despite being miles away in Texas, I desperately wanted to be there to comfort her with a hug. So, I called and Ryan, the GM picked up the phone.I inquired if his team could deliver a flower or, at the very least, an oatmeal raisin cookie (a small gesture she would recognize as from me). Ryan went above and beyond, swiftly arranging for the treat to be delivered. When my girlfriend called to express her gratitude, it warmed my heart. Ryan, your assistance meant the world to me. When we next visit, I insist on treating you to a drink or two. Sincerely, a grateful and loyal patron.E“
“The cafe across the street recommended me this place and told us that they had really good low priced food and they were right, 7 dollars for a sandwich is a great price. The service was also amazing the guy working there was funny and nice. Thank you I’ll be coming back.“
