The great reviews are warranted. We each got a sandwich, the chicken and the pork and we both loved them. I also got a side of soup and the small is perfect size to enjoy and go with your sandwich. “Wandering, looking for breakfast. As we walked toward what we thought we were going to have for breakfast, we passed the Sour Pickle. The smell of breakfast wafting from the restaurant grabbed my sniffer and led us to the front of the store to look at the menu. A Quick Look and we decided to give the pickle a go. Me and the boss decided on the Mexican omelet and a coffee. What a meal. Toast and crisp, delicious hash browns shared the plate with the main attraction, an enormous three egg omelet stuffed with peppers, tomatoes, mushrooms, bacon and onions topped with cheese and salsa sauce. The boss had me finish her omelet but by God I finished all mine too…. Thankfully we had a walk back to the hotel to work some of that big breakfast off.Prices are in line with every other place here in Victoria, however this is a local, husband and wife team that make awesome food and seem genuinely happy to be serving their brand of home cooking to the people. I wouldn’t hesitate to drop in again when we return and try another menu item, wish we had found you sooner!“

“It is a bit out of the way, but definitely worth the stop. If you're headed to the ferry or airport, you should take a little detour for a pre-departure meal or snack. Their specialty lattes are great and I'm sure all the other pastries are good. I only ever get the vanilla custard Danish and I'm never disappointed. If you go in the summer they also have in-house refreshers as well which are also very good. If they break into charcuterie it would be a perfect place for me, at least.“

“I recently had to drive a group down from the comox valley to shawnigan lake and drop them off and then pick them up 6 hours later. I knew I needed a coffee and came across a neat convenience store right near the lake , but just didn’t feel like the gas station / convenience store coffee on this day so I googled “best coffee in shawnigan Lake” and got a direct hit with Shawnigan House Coffee and chocolate ! Well!! Let me tell you !!! After sitting down with a caramel latte and starting light chat with a few customers and the staff, I found myself in the exact spot 4 hours later !!! I read an amazing paper, I bought some local art from a local artist that they kindly display and sell for them and I most importantly met the amazing owners and found an incredible energy and something pretty special from one of the new staff and very good friends if the owners! You could not ask for anything more from a local business from a world class guest experience than here! We even had resident Turkeys that came by for a visit !! How cool is that!!! The snacks are great, the coffee is hot and savory, the music is chill , but most importantly the company and hospitality from the staff is dreamy!!! Thank you for an amazing day while I made my first visit to your secret utopia at Shawnigan Lake ! It definitely won’t be my last. See you all very soon!!!
