Service teams were mostly exceptional - especially Arden, Sean, and Neda.

The atmosphere is choice, and the delightful hostesses will do their best to accommodate. The inside window tables have excellent garden views.

On this vacation to Victoria, we visited Butchart Gardens five of the days and dined at the Dining Room all five days.

“Wonderful experience all around! The server Natalie was very attentive & proactively offered replacements upon hearing of some dietary restrictions. She genuinely engaged in conversation & checked on us regularly providing a hot water top-up. The food was delicious with plenty of variety & options. In addition, we had a lovely view of the Italian Gardens.“

“We stopped at The Blue Poppy Restaurant for lunch during our visit to The Butchart Gardens and were pleasantly surprised by how good the food was. For a cafeteria-style restaurant inside a popular tourist attraction, the quality exceeded our expectations.

We ordered the seafood pasta, which was generously loaded with prawns and scallops. It was rich, flavorful, and so delicious that our kids polished it off in no time.

We also tried the Butter Chicken Poutine, a Canadian classic with a creative twist. Crispy French fries were topped with cheese curds, rich butter chicken curry, roasted cashews, and other flavorful toppings. It was absolutely outstanding—comfort food at its finest and almost impossible to stop eating after the first bite.

The restaurant overlooks the beautiful gardens through large picture windows, making it a lovely place to relax and enjoy the scenery while you eat.

Service is cafeteria-style but fast and well organized, with friendly staff and prompt delivery to your table. A wonderful lunch stop during a visit to The Butchart Gardens.“

“We had a great happy hour at Lodge Kitchen & Bar. The fried prawns, onion rings, and truffle fries were outstanding, while the margarita pizza was just okay. The service was professional, and the beautiful interior made for a wonderful atmosphere.“

“Ugly Duckling doesn't serve dinner so much as it stages a carefully choreographed argument against mediocrity. Every course in the Spring Tasting Menu felt deliberate, restrained, and confident. In a culinary world increasingly obsessed with spectacle, this menu trusted its ingredients to carry the conversation. A surprisingly rare act of courage.
The Haida Gwaii sablefish was exceptional. Rich and buttery without becoming heavy, it was lifted beautifully by the trout roe and smoke. Every element seemed calibrated to amplify the others rather than compete for attention.
The Stillmeadow Farms Tamworth pork may have been the standout course of the evening. The fermented daikon brought brightness and complexity, while the XO sauce added depth and, not in a bad way, made the pork taste like halibut.
That is a good thing! I dont know how to explain that.
Their duck sauce is kept secret. Let me be clear, if there had been no witnesses I would have licked the plate.

“We had dinner at Alpina Restaurant at Villa Eyrie Resort and were completely captivated by the breathtaking panoramic views of Saanich Inlet, framed by rolling mountains, lush greenery, and endless blue skies. Between the spectacular scenery and the outstanding cuisine, it was hard to decide which was more memorable!

We began with the rye sourdough bread, served with whipped butter and an apricot-cardamom butter. It was a simple yet elegant combination that we had never experienced before and absolutely loved.

For our mains, we enjoyed a roasted rainbow carrot salad with greens, feta, grains, and other flavorful toppings that made every bite delicious. The pesto pasta, finished with candied pistachios and a generous burrata, was an incredible combination of creamy, nutty, and herbaceous flavors. The seared tuna was perfectly cooked and served with fresh greens, while the grilled lingcod was flaky, moist, and delicately flavored, accompanied by tender beans cooked with tomatoes and other delicious ingredients.

Dessert was equally memorable. The **Les Rochers** was a rich, decadent chocolate pastry, while the **Tarte aux Myrtilles** featured a crisp tart shell filled with berry compote, topped with fresh blueberries and dollops of berry cream. The highlight, however, was the pistachio tiramisu. Our server assembled it tableside using ladyfingers, coffee, whipped cream, pistachios, chocolate, and other ingredients, turning dessert into a fun experience. The portion was enormous and easily enough for our family of four to share.

Outstanding food, impeccable service, and one of the most spectacular dining views on Vancouver Island made this a truly unforgettable experience. Highly recommended.“

“I had such a great experience at Browns Socialhouse, and I have to give a huge shoutout to Gracie for her work as the host. From the moment we walked in, she created such a welcoming and organized atmosphere. She handled the flow of guests so smoothly, keeping everything running on time while still making each person feel noticed and valued. Even when it got busy, she was handling everything perfectly. You could really see her attention to detail and strong work ethic. Gracie truly helped make the whole experience enjoyable, and it didn’t go unnoticed.“

“Delicious food prepared in Cheffy’s own kitchen, good selection of British food, very convenient when cooking isn’t an option, great variety, inexpensive (the fewer visits to the supermarket, the more the savings), the menu changes each week and friendly, helpful staff. Hint: Their delicious scones, with a different variety every week, are very popular and sell out quickly, so it’s a good idea to order them early in the week. 🥮“

“Came in for my birthday meal a few days ago and it couldn’t have been better! We started with some bellinis which were delicious. The spinach and artichoke dip is 10/10. I got the Chicken Alfredo and my husband got the steak and everything tasted amazing. Our server Lacey was lovely and made my birthday feel very special, and even brought out a dessert for me. Definitely will be back !“

“Real 80'90's diner vibes. You arent paying for bullshit like arugla oatmilk salads and free range noodles. what you see it what you get. You're getting really good priced greasy spoon diner food that should make the majority of people who aren't trying to prove something happy.

“I stayed at the hotel here and popped by the restaurant. It didnt appear too exciting but I ended up having a wonderful meal and lovely evening chatting with staff and patrons.

The pork tacos had so much meat and were delicious. We also tried the beat Salad and added salmon. It was cooked perfectly.

The manager was incredibly kind and accommodating. We asked many questions about the menu and drinks and he answered all of them kindly.

It was a very great experience overall. Not a busy spot but some amazing menu items and great service!!“

“This place is a gem...that gets lost amongst the Golfer Clientele....
You do not need to be a golfer to enjoy Bill Mattick's Restaurant.
I love this place to take my book and sit on patio for appies and a cider SOLO, or daytime cocktails with the girls, or an early evening date night with the hubby.
...especially on the patio, in the sunshine with the gorgeous landscaping and sound of birds.
I highly recommend the Crab Dip (curry undertone) with chips, or the Halibut burger and yam fries.

The prices are reasonable.

I love that they have merridale berry 🍓 ciders.

The service is fast, kind and attentive.

“We were staying at the hotel while my hubby had heart surgery and ate there our first night. THE FOOD AT ATMOSPHERE IS AMAZING!! The second night I made an order online but accidentally pushed the Westshore location...(I'm in Saanich) when I was pointed out my mistake the young man up front went to talk to his manager Jenn! “Never been there before but its a quiet atmosphere didn't know what to think of it. But we ordered the Zoo sticks (zucchini sticks) the absolutely best and I travel all over Canada. Then we ordered the steak mashed potatoes and broccoli done to perfection 👌 and then to start on the drinks I had the rose sangria fizz not only was it beautiful to look at but my taste buds loved it too. Jesse our server/bartender easy going, attentive a great asset to that team and establishment. Next time I come through I definitely will be stopping over and over
