“Excellently prepared and beautifully presented! At first glance my friend and I weren't sure if it was more diner or elegant establishment, but the food and presentation were definitely the latter. The menu is mostly seafood - a couple of salads and chicken dishes are what's on offer otherwise. But for fish-lovers, they have 6 different seafood choices for fish and chips, plus a wide selection ranging from chowders and fish burgers to dinner features like maple glazed salmon and almond crusted lingcod. My friend ordered the grilled shrimp and chose mashed potatoes and asparagus tempura for the sides. The shrimp on the 2 skewers were large, plump and juicy, drizzled with garlic butter, and the asparagus was delightful in a crisp tempura crust. I had baked red snapper topped with spinach, crab and 3-cheese gratin, accompanied by an inspired butternut squash/potato mash and asparagus tempura (yum). The crab meat gave a complimentary richness to the snapper, and the cheese flavours accented nicely. The sweet chili sauce drizzled decoratively over top was a final, perfect touch for both taste and eye. For dessert we shared a sticky toffee pudding which, again, was beautifully presented and a nice finish to an excellent dinner. The server was friendly and attentive, and seemed to know several of the other guests, which suggests that there are repeat customers. We hope to soon be among them - we're going back for dinner tomorrow!
Vegetarian options: Vegetarian options are limited to 2 salads, though you could probably add on a couple of the main dish side options, which are very good.
Dietary restrictions: The chowder is thickened with GF flour and some of the dishes offer GF options, so this is something the chef keeps in mind. Several other dishes could very well be GF, but you'd have to ask.
Wheelchair accessibility: No entry stairs, all one level. There is enough space between tables to move around in a chair or walker and easy to fit a chair at the tables.“

We started with crab cakes they were so good! Then I had the seafood pasta the amount of scallops prawns was awesome they definitely weren't skimpy on the seafood and the presentation was great! Then the dessert we had a free birthday dessert which was the sticky date pudding with vanilla ice cream! The service was good, friendly, fast and the establishment was clean! “Fantastic food, and an excellent place to go out for dinner. I'd highly recommend Kalvas to anyone. The steak was cooked to perfection, the seafood was fresh, tasty and seasoned perfectly. The best restaurant I've been to on Vancouver Island.“

“My second time staying here and can’t wait to be back again! Nancy at front desk is just a gem, got early check in both times as requested, rooms are clean and spacious and nothing beats the balcony and restaurant views! Coffee shop makes amazing drinks and treats and if your lucky in the morning the sweetest dog Casey is in there with his awesome older couple owners and they are so kind to chat with, pool was a great temp but wow it’s cold when your heading back to the dressing rooms in the open air, short safe walkway down to the beach and just a 2 minute drive to almost anything else you might want or need outside of the hotel, my fav hotel on Vancouver island hands down“

“**Restaurant Review: Full Moon Rising** Full Moon Rising in Pacific Shores is an absolute gem that my husband and I frequent often, and it never disappoints. Owned by the lovely Louise, the restaurant is renowned for its incredible consistency in food quality. The beef dip stands out with its flavorful, rich jus that's full-bodied and delicious. My husband raves about the calamari, claiming it's the best he's ever had—crispy and melt-in-your-mouth, perfectly complemented by fabulous pico de gallo. The portions are generous, and the atmosphere is enhanced by spectacular views and live music on weekends, making it perfect for date nights. The service is fantastic, with knowledgeable staff and Louise always present, ensuring everything runs smoothly while radiating her warm energy. Her son, an amazing Red Seal chef who helped design the menu, adds to the culinary excellence. For reliable, satisfying dining with consistently outstanding food, drinks, and service, Full Moon Rising is my top recommendation. Don't miss out—visit before the summer rush! Enjoy!“
