“I have been to many fine dining restaurants however the experience at Marilena Cafe with Josh was phenomenal and next to none. He had great hospitality, recommendations and attention to detail. We tried oysters, sushi, pasta, steel head, chicken and desserts. Couldn’t find a single dish that i didn’t like. They have great vegetarian options as well.We were so happy that we visited the next day as well and had the best time. Highly recommended.Vegetarian options: Great garden sushi and pasta“
“A lovely place to get quick bites and also pocket friendly in a downtown full of pricey restaurants. We had the Salmon sandwich and the tacos. The taco isn’t sufficient if you are an hungry adult. But the sandwich is good enough. Try the fried pickles too. Later we tried the salmon chowder which was flavorful. The place is crowded. Not sure about parking since we were staying in downtown and this place was close by. Definitely a beautiful view .“
“I come here the second time while I am giving a review. I am a fan of Japanese food and I found that this place outstanding from where I went during 3 months in Victoria (love it) salmon is fresh and amazing takoyaki. even chocolate mint after bills is amazing to.“
“Staff were all very hospitable and provided friendly service with a warm smile. We thoroughly enjoyed the food the as well. The squid in the buryani rice stood out for me as it was really tender and delicious. We will definitely dine at fishhook again during our next visit to Victoria.“
“Update 4/8/24:Bumping from 2 to 5 stars as the owner was really great in reaching out and making things right. The issue was insufficient allergy warnings which we missed. Great to see a business that cares about customer service.-----My kid had a bad allergic reaction to one of the bowls even though no nuts mentioned in any of the ingredients.“
“LOVED this place! First time here and I will definitely be a regular. The food was creative with a mix of wonderful flavours and fresh ingredients. Service was impeccable. Friendly, professional, made thoughtful suggestions and just inviting. Sat outside to watch the world go by. Highly recommend this “
“Fathom Lounge located in the Hotel Grand Pacific is a great venue for after dinner relaxation & drinks. We stopped in on our way back to our hotel next door on the coldest night of the year. We arrived just as the DJ started spinning vinyl. The first song was a cover of an 80s tune done with a fusion beat which made us laugh. My companion ordered a Sazerac cocktail, a drink he hadn't tasted in 30+ years and it was to his liking. I asked the bartender for something hot and sweet and although is wasn't on the menu, he delivered a Peppermint Hot Chocolate, with a smile. It was delicious and warmed me up in short order. We enjoyed the tunes and the atmosphere for a couple of hours and after several enjoyable drinks, the one block walk back to our hotel seemed a lot less bone chilling. Next visit, we'll make time to have dinner in the restaurant.“
“It didn’t disappoint! Authentic food, great service - our server had so much personality and really made the experience :)My advice is go spicier than you think, as the food wasn’t nearly as spicy as we anticipatedOverall great experience and food, good for sharing and really good prices!“
“Tried it out for the first time yesterday, and it has rocketed into my top recommendations for Victoria. Nice, unpretentious vibe. Definitely laid-back and hipster, not fine dining. Would be a great place to meet with friends for drinks and happy hour. The food is absolutely spectacular. One of the best selections of oysters I’ve had in a restaurant (including places like Araxi) and reasonably priced (I will definitely come back for their two dollar happy hour oyster shucks.) The absolute star was the Wu-Tang clams. My wife loved the lobster roll as well.Cocktails were well thought out options that pair well with their dishes, but I think I would stick with their reasonably priced wine and beer list.Almost everything on the menu is seafood. If you bring someone who doesn’t eat it or is allergic there is a salad and a cheeseburger as options for them but that’s it.“
“Nicole was absolutely wonderful! Our food took a little longer than expected but she made sure we were still ok , checking in and offered us free dessert. I liked her super positive attitude at work and her humour. We really enjoyed the experience there !“
“They serve generous portions of chips, easily sufficient for three people with a small size. I wish the chips were a bit more crispier though. The coleslaw was delicious, and the halibut was exceptional. Although I'm not usually a fan of salmon, it was surprisingly good. With its reasonable prices and ample servings, it's definitely a great place to visit!“
“Excellent service from the staff and the staff are incredibly informative about the food and super careful with food allergies and dietary restrictions, the atmosphere is chill and modern aesthetic. The food is awesome and filling. I got the “California Dreamin’ “ it was delicious but a little bit much for me to eat (regular size). There is a large selection of sauce and toppings available the price is a little bit higher than I would like but great price for the amount and quality. Definitely worth going to.“
“Ainsley was a great server. I come from years in hospitality and if I ever have standout service, I leave a review. Food was great, everyone in my group enjoyed it. The beef burger was so good (delicious house made bun!) but our service is was stood out to all of us. Thanks for the great experience Ainsley, we will back eventually and asking for you!“
“I have always gone to Ferris’s downstairs and enjoyed it well enough, but was never ‘wowed’. On my birthday we were actually on our way somewhere else for dinner and I had a craving for oysters. Being past 5 pm, we decided to go upstairs. And what a lovely surprise!Upstairs is elegant and beautiful but still casual. The food (because we ended up just…not leaving!) was great -the chicken liver pâté was out of this world!! And our server, Chelsea was so lovely! In fact, when she found out it was my birthday, she comped us each a wine without telling us.Will 100% return.“
“Food was amazing, ordered dinner for 4 and wonton soupThe taste is not overpowering, may taste a bit bland to others but you can probably request for change. Definitely homemade and “healthier” food.Favourite was sweet and sour pork and honey “
“▫️B.C halibut?22Fisherman's Wharf in Victoria should be regarded as a small food market (ᵔ ᗢ ᵔ). Many small shops are gathered together. The colorful and cute houses and the clear and clean pier make the whole thing very comfortable?️I come here to eat fish and chips ?The inside is halibut, the outside is crispy and the inside is very tender. It is a large piece with French fries and cabbage, and it does not feel greasy. It's a pity that many shops are not open on Monday, and I didn't go to the gift shop~“
“I've had the best seafood lasagna to this day! The staff were so nice. Everything tastes so fresh and flavorful. My husband had the prawn shop, it was also very yummy, rich with coconut flavor. I almost felt guilty for over-stuffing myself with the focaccia, but it was totally worth it! <3“
“We chose the Fireside as our daughter's wedding reception venue. The ambiance under the tent and twinkle lights was magical. The whole experience was absolutely perfect. The outstanding tasty buffet selection was given compliments by all our guests. I also want to acknowledge the 2 dedicated servers who looked after us so attentively...amazing. Thank you Tim and your fantastic team...you were a huge part in making these newlyweds and guests feel incredibly happy and impressed.“
“Great place to get Thai food! They were apparently the first Thai food place in Victoria, according to the introduction on their menu. Happy to stumble upon this place.I got the chicken pad thai from lunch menu, and my husband got some sort of red curry. He was used to food places not being really spicy even if it’s the highest level, so he got a 4 out 5. It was REALLY spicy, so this place is legit spicy lol.Lunch menu comes with a spring roll.Parking: We parked at a nearby paid parking garage and walked over.“
“Nestled in a hotel, it would have been easy to miss walking by but the service and food was amazing. The team behind the restaurant is super friendly and accommodating. Back home and I’m still thinking about this mushroom pasta they have on their lunch menu. 10/10“
“Pros:- Fresh and Local Ingredients- Great Service from waiter that explained backstory of the dish- Good portion, me and my girlfriend were both stuffed by the end of it- Small, Intimate Atmosphere- Allowed Wine Pairing to be split into two cups (we are not big wine drinkers but wanted to try it)Not so Good:- Since the kitchen is right around the corner, the girlfriend did not like the smell and got a headache (I forgot about the smell after a few mins)Review:In general, the food ingredients were fresh and I liked hearing the backstory to each dish. The server was great at explaining each dish and also the wine pairing which really enhances the dining experience. Be prepared to spend the full 2 hours in there for all the courses, this is not a quick dining experience. Menu will change every two weeks ish time (slowly replacing item after item). Great for a one time experience, but not keen on returning“
“Great service and food, plus a nice view of the harbour if you can get a spot in the sheltered outdoor patio. The steelhead and sablefish main dishes in particular are quite good. Service is very attentive and checks in regularly to see if you need anything or to refill water. There is also convenient and abundant parking in the adjacent Wharf street parking lot, just be sure to enter via the right lane as you can't turn left into the lot.“
