“As a vegan, I couldn't wait to visit Fern Cafe last year while vacationing on Vancouver Island. I was thrilled to walk in a bakery that's 100% vegan and absolutely loved everything, from their coffee to food, to the friendly service and the atmosphere. I am about to return to the Island in a week and can't wait to drop by again!“

“I ordered the mackerel set meal and thoroughly enjoyed it. The mackerel was grilled perfectly, with crispy skin and moist, flavorful meat. The rice, miso soup, and side dishes complemented the meal beautifully and made for a very satisfying dining experience. Being an owner-chef operated restaurant, the care and attention to detail were evident in every dish. Everything tasted fresh and well prepared. “This is a quaint café with ample indoor and outdoor seating. It has very large windows and is pleasantly bright. The outdoor patio looks out on Victoria's Gorge; a very relaxing scene. Service staff are very friendly. All in all a pleasant place to spend some time. Be aware that it can be a little tricky to find since it is at the back of an apartment complex. I didn't have a chance to try out the food but it looks very good.“

One recommendation: while me and my gf loved absolutely everything about this spot, our husbands (who are meat eaters and would not choose a spot like this normally) said they would have been more enticed to come if there was one additional dish on the menu: a classic hearty breakfast: eggs, bacon, sourdough. That's what they ended up ordering off the side menu, but there was no selling point for them from the menu at first glance. They have Nourish a 9.5/10 and said this would tip it over for them!“

“Heard about this place awhile ago from 365prowrestling since they occasionally do live pro wrestling events here.

Originally went months ago on a Saturday afternoon but it was packed and too crowded to even be able to look around at all the unique crazy spectacular decor or to take photos since too many customers were there.

Kept seeing 5 star reviews so decided to finally go back and try the food this time.

Went on a weekday afternoon. Very quiet and relaxed this time with tons of empty tables and I was able to actually look around at everything this time.

My latte was in a huge Mug and over flowing in a good way. The server did an awesome job of bringing it to my table without spilling it since it was full to the max.

The Brisket sandwich I ordered was massive. I managed to finish most of it. Very tasty and I added the Hotwheels sauce they had on my table.

Awesome presentation and taste. Massive sandwich and they had the knife 🔪 sticking out of it.

Was definitely worth the price and I'll be coming back again to try another unique item to feast on in the future.

After my meal I was extremely full and totally stuffed but managed to look around in the cool gift/merchandise shop they have.

“To start the customer service and atmosphere in this bakery is incredible. It's got great art on the walls. The sourdough options are amazing, whether you like a softer bread or a denser bread. I love the Lunch Pail which is a soft sandwich bread. Their sandwiches on focaccia are very delicious always with a meat and veg option and their veg options are particularly inventive. They make their own house setein for their veg sandwiches which is particularly nice. It's a great family owned business. Their cinnamon bun is a must try. Delighted to have this bakery in the city.“

“Wanted a nice vegan lunch and found this was a couple blocks away from our hotel (Strathcona). Food was amazing! The mushroom soup was the best I ever had and the Mac bowl makes me want to come back for more. Highly recommended. All vegan, gluten free, locally sourced ingredients. From when you first enter & you smell the fresh herbs to when you sit down around the table on super comfortable chairs/couches. WOW. The staff were attentive, personal and yet not in your zone too much. Helpful with advice on the food and menu. 10/10. The food was on another planet. We had three dishes in total - one appy and two mains. Cooked perfectly, extremely fresh flavours and large portions. The naan bread… just wow. Delish! Will be coming back and telling everyone about this. They deserve a line out the door.“

Of course the biscuits were exceptional and perfectly cut and toasted. I had the egg and bacon Sammy and added tomatoes and avocado. Perfect!!! Group of 6 all raved! A diverse, spread on a theme, and I'm not a gravy fan and it too was delicious. The special steak had homemade dips and stuff, and the vege was it was incredibly complex and yummy looking. I WILL BE BACK!!! The baked goods looked fantastic, but I'm so full!“

This is not an indoor seating restaurant, more like a hawker stall. There are plenty of outdoor seats in the courtyard.“

“Decided to try the lunch deal because they were close to my work. Incredibly friendly staff, accommodated me when I was having card troubles one day. Delicious pizza always fresh. 6.99 for 2 very large slices by todays standards and that includes a drink. Would pay 10 just for the quality of the experience. Young man that works there every day during lunch hour is one of the nicest people I’ve come across since moving back to island. Please support this business!“
