I was able to cozy up my scooter right next to my table and sip and savour their delicious Lavender Latte while watching the florist from “Flowers on Top” select gorgeous peonies from their spring flower selection across the street. Gorgeous spot, simply delightful!“

“Hands down one of the best places I've ever had breakfast. Both my wife and I agree the Sleeping Beauty Pancake with berry compote was the best pancake we ever eaten. I was skeptical of the Golden Benny on sweet potatoes, but again one of the best breakfast I have ever had. Sorry about the Orange Idiot, hopefully things will get better soon.“

“I highly recommend this small, cozy, homey place. The staff/owners are so friendly and the cook/chef, a wonderfully friendly woman came out a few times and chatted. I came for the German meal tonight and it was fantastic. The red cabbage was like my mom used to make and the schnitzel was pounded into perfection! Topped off with an awesome Black Forest … all deeeelicious.“

“Koffi serves some of the best soup and delicious bread that I’ve ever eaten. And I should know, because I had some at lunch today. And I had it gratis..because the lovely staff could see how frustrated I was that my new debit card would not work. Now what businesses give out free soup…not many! So thanks Koffi!!“

“Adorable gem in a sea of greasy spoons and high-cal, low-health local spots for breakfast, brunch, or coffee. Loved everything we had here from the bowls to the unique smoothies with a coastal theme and ingredients. They had a couple misses with the order but made up with it with smiles and a quick fix. Overall a couple dollars less than other places - higher quality ingredients and recipes. Good option if your group needs a combo of meat and plant-based options.“

“The food here is absolutely delicious. The first time I came here I was in love with my sandwich and every-time the sandwich just slaps. Banana bread is sooo good too. Coffee has been a bit hit or miss here but the other drinks are lovely. Service is normally lovely but last time I went I felt very rushed and like I was inconveniencing them which is unfortunate but I do love the food and it could’ve been a one off. Bit pricy though.“

“Grabbed brunch here with a couple friends on a Saturday morning a couple weeks ago and the patio out front ended up being the perfect spot to sit and catch up. The flat white was excellent, honestly some of the best coffee I've had in Victoria, and the avocado toast with the poached egg on top hit the spot too. Staff were super friendly and didn't rush us at all even though we hung around chatting for almost two hours. Parking nearby was a bit tricky since it's downtown, but that's a small complaint for how good the whole experience was.“

Literally three other people in the shop and no one behind me. If this has been a restaurant that would have bothered me to the point of knocking stars, but when it's coffee, it's all about the coffee.“

However we are visiting from the UK and was not aware of the tipping etiquette so… if you are travelling from aboard make sure you tip as otherwise the staff will serve other customers first rather than the order of buying the coffee. Don’t make the same mistake I did. 4 people that brought their drinks after me got prioritise as they obviously tipped 🤷‍♀️.“

“We are in Calgary Alberta and trying to find a special thing we could do for my boyfriend’s Mom for her Birthday out in Victoria. We thought we’d send her a little breakfast to brighten up her day. Cat’s Coffee and Cake did just that. Not only we’re we told the food was delicious, I asked them to write a little special note and they went above and beyond to make it look really nice and totally special. Thank You so much… 100 thumbs up from Calgary.“

“During the protest on Feb 19 I came in to get tea and coffee. I like to support small businesses like this. Nice clean place. Vax pass required to sit in but not to take out. Which was nice. I had a lovely girl serve me and we talked about the egg bites. I thanked her and went to leave and had a woman cruse at me and then threaten to hit me. I kindly asked if she was having a bad day and needed a hug. I then began to record her I case she did proceed with what she said. I want to apologize to all people who were there trying to enjoy a peaceful day, and the the lovely staff who are just trying to do their job in a world that’s gone nuts. Sorry that this woman felt the need to be ignorant and violent to a person who was peacefully and politely getting a tea and coffee. This behaviour in older adults is embarrassing. And I am sorry it happened in your nice establishment. Hopefully it won’t happen again. I’d like to post the woman’s picture since she threatened me. But I’ll save her the embarrassment. Peace and love to you all. Enjoy your coffee and food.“

“We were visiting Victoria and by chance met Fadi- one of the owners who told us about his family’s cafe. We LOVE Lebanese food so decided to check it out for lunch. We had chicken shawarma donairs and tabouleh and loved it. But most of all his family is so kind and warm and the cafe is super cute! Thank you!“

“This is a hotel cafe, so the prices are a tad high, but not terrible.

I had breakfast here with my kids. The staff were very friendly. My daughter said the pain chocolat was better than France and my little one loved the overnight oats. The dried fruit was actually much better than the frozen fruit I use at home, so I'll have to try that moving forward.
Sausage breakfast sandwich was also very good.

They were very busy which lead to service being slow (no fault of the staff) so do allow extra time.“

Coffee houses are abundant in Victoria, but the truly outstanding ones have something that sets them apart, and JBCH certainly does. The staff — along with the owners, who work daily at both the James Bay Coffee House and their Shoal Point Coffee House — are always smiling, which immediately makes friends and me feel good. They know their products, and they are incredibly patient. (You don't fully appreciate that quality until you're the person standing at the cash with a few questions before deciding what to order!) The products are fresh, delicious, varied and consistently high quality — at times, downright irresistible. And the atmosphere at JBCH is cozy, welcoming and positive.
