“The Mill Bay Mickey D's is 1 of my favorites here on Vancouver Island, their consistent high quality & freshness is great, & the drinks taste really great& special because there's no fluoride in the tap water there, so, no icky weird city water taste messing with the flavour of your choice of soda fountain drink!A strange occurrence during this particular visit though, the line up for the drive through was huge, so I parked my truck out front, went in & ordered a double cheeseburger, (with no pickles), & what I received and didn't notice till back on the highway, that I'd actually received a rather messy big Mac with what appeared to be not only extra pickles, but extremely huge amounts of "secret sauce" as well, I was completely confused & horrified, I also got a large fries that were badly undercooked, so, not so great today... Hmmm.“

“The Mill Bay Tim Hortons outlet has gone downhill over the last 5 years. The service at the counter is very slow. They have 2 order counters but always use only one, even when the line is long. The loud chatter back and forth by the staff is disturbing. It sounds like they're just having fun and I don't begrudge that but it is way too loud. The tables are often dirty there's always food wrappers strewn around on the floor, being ignored. The garbage cans are often full to overflowing. The coffee is standard and the muffins are often dry.“

“My party had both regular dishes and the vegetarian. Food was great. They have opened a new section of the restaurant since the last time I was there. It made it much more enjoyable as the tables are further apart. The staff were very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful.“

Hank's Bakery and Coffee Coffee Shops • $
5311 Trans-Canada Hwy #3, Duncan

“Hank's Bakery, just off the busy highway on Duncan’s outskirts, is a local favorite that’s well worth the extra drive. This bakery-café hybrid focuses on fresh-made food and seasonal specials, drawing in a steady stream of customers who don’t mind the bustling atmosphere for a taste of Hank’s quality.

The bakery is often packed, and space inside is tight. Seating is limited, with a few small tables and a bar area that suits solo diners or those just grabbing a quick bite. It’s more of a grab-and-go spot than a sit-and-stay café, but the food keeps people coming back.

Hank's stands out for its focus on fresh ingredients, which sets it apart from typical cafés that prioritize drinks. Their menu is always changing, with seasonal specials adding variety and keeping things exciting. Whether it’s fall-inspired pastries or summer-fresh salads, Hank’s makes the most of each season’s flavors.

Overall, I’d rate Hank’s a 7.2/10. The quality of the food and seasonal offerings are huge pluses, though the busy, cramped space makes it a better fit for quick stops than extended visits. If you're in the area, it’s a must-try for fresh, flavorful fare!“

“Cowichan Bay is in itself a beautiful stopping point, with excellent waterfront views. The Leeward Cafe is connected to the world-renowned True Grain Cowichan Bay Euro style bakery.
Great stop for coffee and fresh baked goods or a full lunch.
Enjoy the waterfront atmosphere with friends, family, or chat with someone new. Summer time there is an open deck, we'll worth a stop.
As a local, I certainly go back very regularly.....enjoy“
