“Totoro Ramen is very good for San Mateo standards. It is a good attempt from a non-Japanese ownership. I can tell because I've been going to Japan since the 1990's. We had their chicken karaage $10, black garlic ramen $18 and a tonkotsu ramen $18. The chicken karaage was good because of the light batter, crunchiness and with the two aioli sauces, which made it more delicious. We would order this again in a heartbeat. Although they did give us the oldest wedge of lemon ever with no juice inside.
The broth for the ramen were rich and creamy with a lot of depth. The broth flavor was very good for the black garlic ramen and not so much for the tonkotsu ramen. The tonkotsu broth seemed weaker and not well balanced. It was the opposite for the black garlic ramen where two cloves of garlic were on top and tasted divine. As for the noodles themselves, this fell short. It was missing that kansui consistency that I love. Service is as expected for a fast pace ramen restaurant.
In terms of ambiance, this might not be the best place to have a conversation. It was loud at dinner time. Not the fault of the restaurant, but the tables are right next to one another. These annoying tech older bros were talking very loud about defunct technologies as if they were still relevant.“

“This is a full review. We made a reservation, which was simple and they had the time we were looking for on a Saturday night. We were greeted by a very nice hostess and seated within 4 minutes of arrival despite them being very busy. There was music in the background but it was at a level that I would consider quiet. Casual vide, lots of kids, but not bothersome. Dress code I would say is casual. Seating was comfortable with padded chairs and bench seating if you are against the wall, which we were. The alcohol menu is limited, see previous recent reviews, just beer and sake. Sake is served in a tradtional fashion, with a glass in a small box and overflow in the box for you to pour into the glass when you are done, so essentially 2 glasses for the price of one. Our server Kevin was the BEST! He was so spontaneously and genuinely complimentary, knowledgeable and made great recommendations. The best!! Food comes out VERY quickly and I am someone who likes to draw out my meals so for future reference I would order drinks, then appetizer then entrees, in separate instances. We had the gyoza appetizer which was very good and came with a small side sauce. Then we had the shrimp tempura soft bao taco and shishito peppers appetizers, also very good especially the taco. Only small suggestion is a bit of seal salt on the shishitos. For dinner we had ramen, one vegetarian ramen and one chicken paitan. They both had great broth bases, plenty of noodles, chicken for the paitan and tofu for the vegetarian. We ended up taking about 1/3 home, so very generous portions. Overall, very good flavor.
The ONLY small issue we had was the availability of the portable CC machine. There appeared to only be one and it was very busy so it took some time to get checked out, but again, that is a very minor issue, I just like to be complete in my reviews.
Would strongly recommend Marufuku Ramen in Redwood City!“

“Ramen Parlor has been one of my longtime go-to spots in San Mateo — especially for their lobster miso ramen, which I’ve been ordering for years. The flavors are still solid and the broth has that rich seafood depth that makes it stand out from other ramen shops.
That said, I do feel like the dish was better a few years ago — the broth had more complexity and the overall presentation felt a bit more refined back then. It’s still good, just not quite the same standout it once was.
Service is friendly and the atmosphere is casual and welcoming. Definitely worth a visit if you’re craving something different from the usual tonkotsu or shoyu ramen — especially if you haven’t tried their lobster miso bowl before.“

“I love the ramen, the only thing is that I was expecting a softer yolk in the egg, but i got a hard boiled instead, they overcooked the egg, but its okay...“

“I'm obsessed with Ramen Dojo! Being just 15 minutes from my place, I finally took the plunge and tried it after months of recommendations.
The service is great, and the Ramen is AMAZING! I've tried 4 different plates, and each one is a favorite. I'm hooked now - definitely worth checking out!“

“super yum! i had the garlic chili tonkatsu ramen and unagi chazuke and they were great! the chazuke was very satisfying and addicting to eat - the unagi was perfectly cooked and seasoned with a sweet sauce! i felt like the garlic chili tokatsu ramen was a bit overcooked but still very fragrant. a sleeper hit was the shishito pepper tempura - crispy and flavorful!“
“Located near Luckys and Lowes, this is a neighborhood hole in the wall. It’s not an Ichi Ramen (shown in the front of the restaurant) as they just never spent the money to replace the sign. Being said this place gets packed fast especially on weekends. It’s a great spot for rice porridge and other Cantonese comfort food. Guess don’t judge the book by its cover 😉Tried the pork rice congee (hope I spelled that right) and the beef stew clay pot with both the regular and sweet Chinese doughnut. Enjoyed the tender pork and thick porridge. Beef stew was also very tender and savory 😋 I say check it out.“

“Waited approximately one hour to be seated. Spoiker: it was well worth that wait. I ordered the tonkatsu ramen and pork buns. I can't decide which part was better, the noodles or the broth! The pork buns were priced just right at $8 for 2. Some of the best I've had. You are all so lucky to have such a wonderful ramen bar in your community. I am from Maine and will be sure to stop by this establishment every chance I get once I am in town.“

“Noodleosophy is local Bay Area chain focusing on hand-pulled noodle dishes, and this location in particular can be found in Millbrae's Social Eatery food hall. As part of Social Eatery, patrons can take a seat within the food hall, place their orders on the provided tablet, and a staff member will bring the food an beverages straight to your table.
We decided to get their beef tendon noodle soup and selected the biang biang noodles (you're able to customize the dish to your liking with whatever noodle option you prefer). We also got a side of their pork and shrimp dumplings, because who doesn't love dumplings?
The beef tendon noodle soup was rich and flavorful, while the accompanying noodles were perfectly cooked and chewy - providing a great mouth feel to the dish. The dumplings were delicious as well, and were a nice addition to the meal as a whole.
If you're ever in the Millbrae area and want a one-stop shop for all your dining and beverage needs, then Social Eatery is definitely the place to go and be sure to enjoy some delicious hand-pulled noodles from Noodleosophy while you're at it!“

“I got the tonkatsu curry rice plate. Very well priced for what you get. The place is nice, clean and simple.
The katsu is freshly fried.
You can definitely tell that the curry is made from scratch. It's light but not watered down. It's flavorful but not overwhelming. I think this is the first time I finished all the curry before the rice or the katsu. Is this is the best curry I've ever had? Not sure, my memory does not go that far back. I can say that this is the best curry I've had in the Bay so far. Give it a try, I highly recommend it.
Don't come in expecting something super rich and strong. This dish is beautifully simple, just perfectly ordinary in a comforting way.“

“I was seated right away during lunch time and it wasn't too busy. My favorite and reason for my visit was to have the torikawa (chicken skin skewers) I also had the Bento with the shrimp tempura and shioyaki salmon. Everything was delicious 😋 I almost forgot to take photos as I was hungry lol... price was also reasonable.“

“One of the best chirashi bowls I've ever had. I was worried that since this place has so many vegetarian options that, their fish quality would be lower but after having this chirashi bowl, I can confidently say that their fish quality is not a concern whatsoever. Looks like this is another place me and my vegetarian wife will frequent :)“

“One of the best ramen shops in the bay area! Trust the reviews, this place is phenomenal. Delicious broth with such a complexity of flavors in a rich/hearty ramen. It rivaled both marafuku and hinodeya. I loved the clam ramen (it was PACKED with clams), and our other guests truly enjoyed the short rib ramen and the tonkotsu. Fast service, intimate space, and hot food. Worth the drive from SF“
