You could almost describe it as a fast food spot or a cafeteria. But don’t let the appearance fool you. The food is incredibly fresh, and the flavors do something extraordinary to your palate that is genuinely hard to describe. It’s one of those places you simply have to experience for yourself. We got beef and broccoli, lemon chicken, chow mein, and some egg rolls. I thought the food was delicious, but I particularly enjoyed the beef and broccoli. Their sauces are well balanced and I didn’t feel like anything was over sauced and/or overpowering. The chow mein was a little on the onion heavy side which could either be a downside or upside to your taste buds. I enjoyed it, my toddler was less excited about all the onions.

I wish they used egg roll wrappers instead of spring roll wrappers. The egg rolls were still very good, and I know this is very American of me, but I just love the chewy warty hog filled egg rolls. I secretly like to eat them cold with hot mustard.

Am I gonna eat here again though? Heck to the yes I am. You should eat here too.

“This is a must try in Monterey!! The owner was so sweet - my brother and I were staying in a hotel while visiting and she even provided all the utilities and specially asked what we need. The noodles and tofu were all so well prepared and delicious - so many vegetarian options to choose from! Also, the mango boba was a refreshing drink! She also provided appetizers for us to try and even accommodated my vegetarian diet restrictions. It's so rare that you find a family owned hidden gem like this, make sure it's on your list for Monterey!“

“Decem and QQ gave us the BEST service we have EVER received. No exaggeration. They provided our group with such a wonderful experience and ALL of our food was amazing. We had chow mein, wings, Mongolian beef, sweet & sour chicken, rice, wor wonton soup, ginger tea, and the sesame seed dessert balls (I don’t remember what they were called). Above all, they treated us like family. We will absolutely be having more family dinners here. If you are reading reviews to see where you should go to eat this is THE place to go. P.S. You must try the chicken wings!“

“They have several vegetarian dishes. I got the Buddha's delight and it was very good. My husband got the kung pao tofu and said it was really good. The staff was very polite, friendly, and helpful--and the food came very fast. Nice place! We'll come again.“

“My family and I have been coming to The Orient for over 10 years. This place is the best. It's run by the same family and the deliciousness of their food hasn't changed either. The beef Pho is great, best around I think. I really like their fried rice, salt pepper squid and egg foo young. Pretty much everything here is good. Their lunch specials are deal too.“

“We ordered pan fried hong Kong style noodle, hot and sour soup, northern mixed vegetables, and spicy eggplant. All excellent, except for the noodle. I was expecting egg noodle but it was crunchy thin chow mien. Taste was ok, just not what I expect. Still, we would go back again.“

The fried rice is also fantastic and pairs so well with everything on the menu. Honestly, everything I’ve tried has been consistently delicious, served hot, and clearly made with care. You can really taste the quality. What makes the experience even better is the family who owns and runs the restaurant. “We were looking for a place that offered seafood without breaking the bank. This was the place. We got our seafood fix with shrimp bags and crawfish bags and the others in our group who don't like seafood were able to get Chinese food. Win win for everyone.“

The staff are friendly as well. It's right next to trader Joe's and across is Chipotle. The parking isn't that bad either.“
