Restaurantji's East Compton guide: Where to find the best Mexican flavors.
“Visiting from out of town. Walked in to order the famous Torta Cubana in size: grande. They have fast service from my experience. The Torta was much bigger than I had anticipated, and it was stacked. I recommend regular size if you dont have a big appetite. The torta is really tasty. Authentic taste, like a real mexican torta. Salsa was on point as well.“
“Love love this place... Nobody comes close to their delicious Birria tacos and Consume. Nobody! Their new secret item *Ramen Consume* is by far one one of my new foods they offer. Stop by don't forget your mask and smile life is much better with Birria tacos and Consume...“
“The greatest tacos of Birria or goat and often very tasty from early in the morning of course that is well recommended because I know them and they know how to make good food. They treat you like family. Very nice people. We ordered barbacoa and the chef came out and convinced us that they have the best birria by giving us a few sampler plates. I gotta say I agree with him they know how to get down in the kitchen.“
“Cruda was a fantastic spot. I was excited to try the camarones culichi. I was so thankful for the waitress that helped us and let me know that the culichi was a bit spicy that day (usually it's not that spicy) so I ended up skipping it and getting the shrimp tacos. So ask your server if the culichi is spicy before ordering. I don't do well with spicy. The ambiance was very neat - love the neon sign. If you know you know! ;) Overall, great place a little pricy but ask for the specials if they have any. we got double the oysters because they were having a sale. Solid place.“
“A lifetime of eating Mexican food, living in Mexico and speaking Spanish fluently couldn't have prepared me for the culinary whirlwind that I experienced last night at Damian. Accompanying friends who have been long time patrons of Damian served as personal tour guides through the labyrinth of menu selections that culminated in one of the most memorable meals I have ever had as a native Angelino. What makes Damian so remarkable is the layers of flavors that appear in every dish and the surprising combinations of ingredients that while seemingly so disparate, create a fusion of flavors that one wouldn't think possible in one cuisine. The service is impeccable and the environment relaxing, intimate and simply world class.“
“This was my first Michelin star restaurant that I have experienced that I heard about from Tik Tok. It lived up to the hype. I recommend going early or after lunch as it packed during lunch time. The line is out the door. The food is delicious and I would recommend to any seafood lover. The prices are reasonable and you get a lot of food in each dish. If you are the the downtown area it definitely a must try. It right next door to the DMV so it not a lot of parking so you have to drive around to a spot open up if you go during lunch time. It is loud in there as it is a food hall with about 6 other restaurants in the same building. It is still a good experience and worth giving a try.“
“How this place isn’t the most talked about restaurant in LA will blow my mind. Incredible. Fantastic. I would eat here everyday if my wallet could afford.Get their Lomo Saltado taco and you will dream about it for the rest of your days. You’ve been warned.“
“Mariscos Jalisco is a culinary gem that captivated my taste buds from the moment I arrived. With its unassuming exterior, this eatery surprises diners with a treasure trove of seafood delights. The menu boasts an impressive selection, from their famed crispy shrimp tacos to the mouthwatering aguachiles. Each dish showcases the freshest ingredients and expert culinary craftsmanship, leaving a lasting impression with every bite. The welcoming ambiance and friendly service only add to the charm of Mariscos Jalisco, making it a must-visit destination for anyone craving an authentic and unforgettable seafood experience.“
“Really delicious food. Tiny outside eating area. Valet parking, which is good because this isn't a neighborhood where you'd like to be walking around at night getting to your car.Kid-friendliness: NoWheelchair accessibility: Yes“
“OMG! These are the best tacos I’ve had. I had a taco de carnitas with cilantro, onion and green salsa. They had other topping like nopales, guacamole, and three different salsas. The meat was flavorful and the corn tortillas were made from scratch. I am from the Bay Area visiting family- I will definitely return and tell my family back home.“
“This place reminds me of the amazing restaurants in the city of Mexico (MCDC, something). The ambiance is clean, cool and collected. I love the lighting, the design of every corner. Exceptional vibe. The drinks are all carefully crafted and taste delicious. The food is unique and has its own twist on traditional can dishes. I highly recommend this restaurant for a fun date night or to take clients out.“
“I ordered all of each tacos: Asada, Adobada, Pollo, Chorizo, Mushroom with Cebollitas with Aqua Fresca and it was the bomb! My boyfriend ordered Papa Loka with Adobada with Guacamole with Jamaica. I took a taste test and it was good and huge! Enough to share with two people.Vegetarian options: They have mushrooms tacos which are my favorite for vegan eaters.Parking: Come early to get a spot in front of the restaurant.Kid-friendliness: You can take your kids to eat here.“
“This Mercado has so much to offer. Your pallet will not be disappointed with the many different restaurants you'll fine in here from some of the best see food to Oxacan food. Artesanias de Mexico are one thing you'll be thrill to find here.“
“This hole in the wall in an old smallish strip mall is a true gem. Wonderful food, presentation and service. Their prices bring me back to the year 2010’s. Definitely a place I will visit again and recommend to family and friends. And good coffee – it tasted well without sugar or cream!“
“Food is really good you won't be disappointed just the parking & the seats are so so .Vegetarian options: Well you have beans , guacamole , rice , salsas on a handmade tortilla is pretty good .Dietary restrictions: I myself don't eat beef I'm a chicken fella myself . I love a pair of chicken tacos on handmade tortillas with guacamole feel good & not greasy either with a touch of salsa .“
“You might have a doubt when you see where this place is, but go!! You're in this restaurant that is nice, clean, and cool and the decor feels so at home. It's beautiful! Being Mexican-American, I know these dishes and how delicious they are but let's be honest, HEAVY!! But these dishes hit the taste spot for some good Mexican Food! The Mole, the Tacos, the Suace, it all brings back memories, and when you think these are all Vegan ingredients you are just more enamored. The waitress, Alejandra, was so nice and so passionate about the restaurants and the dishes, it makes you smile. And always giving a shout-out to the cook for making delicious food but also very aesthetically cool dishes!“
“Family owned and operated truck located in Boyle Heights / East LA area that specializes in tacos arabes and goodies from Puebla in general. The tacos arabes were a result of Lebanese immigrants to the area and boy are they delicious. I came here later on a Thursday night so it wasn't very busy and it was pretty chill. Just a few other people around me. The folks here were friendly and helpful. I ordered:A taco arabe especiale- their signature taco with their marinated roast pork on this soft flower tortilla. This was topped Oaxacan cheese and slices of avocado (especiale). There was this chipotle sauce on top of everything. The sauce added some smokiness to an already great flavor and texture profile. I really liked that flour tortilla. Quesadilla de flor de calabaza - zucchini blossoms with melted Oaxacan cheese inside a blue corn tortilla. Love corn and I love this. Nice and chewy with earthy and slightly sweet flavors to go along with their delicious salsaDefinitely recommend for tacos/ quesadillas etc etc or if you are just in the mood for something a little different.“
“Great Service as Well as the Food!!!!Excellent Ceviche!!! They were closing early for a party believe but they did not rush my wife and i...they continued to orivide top notch service til e left. Very busy crew always keeping the restaurant very clean, LOVE YOU “
“Before traveling to L.A. I googled best places to eat. Tacos LA Carreta was one of the suggestions. So after a full day of activities we decided to give it a try. Thank goodness we did! Best Tortas and tacos I ever had!! We will definitely make this a go-to for sure.“
“Just finished eating here. Everything was DELICIOUS. Everyone is so welcoming, and make sure you're well taken care of. ? The food was beyond my expectations. As a Mexican and home cook, this place exceeded my expectations, and my taste buds were beyond happy. The spicy sauce actually had a great kick ?. The menu is simple, but it doesn't need anything else. The Aguas frescas had just the right amount of sweetness. They were actually refreshing, I only wish some ice was added. The presentation of the food was BEAUTIFUL. The chef definitely takes pride in the food served, and the attention to detail is evident . I'm so glad we live so close. Will definitely continue to come to this hidden gem. Thank you for such a pleasant experience. I can't wait to try the rest of the dishes here.“
“Hands down the best birria tacos and fusion shawerma I've ever had. I might as well pitch a tent outside.Ivan provided great customer service and helped me pick exactly what I needed off the menu. Definitely coming back here to try the rest.“
“Went to this place with my husband three days ago barely got free to post this review. The food was great very authentic and the service was great as well. We will definitely go back even signed up for the rewards program in case we wanna order takeout.“
“I love trying new vegan places but finding a new one where you would least expect, is awesome! Showed up around noon and the place was empty. The employees were really courteous and helpful and recommended a few items I should try which made ordering an easy choice. We (family of 5) ended up ordering 2 Chinese combo plates and a taco plate (one of each). Took about 15-20 min to make which isn’t too bad considering I didn’t call ahead. The Chinese food was good but the Taco plate was excellent!!! Definitely going back to try out more of the Mexican dishes. Plenty of parking.“
“First time here and we loved it. Everything from the food to the service, to the best margaritas we have had in ages was in a battle for what we were trying to judge as the highlight of the visit. Throw in a festive and lively atmosphere and a beautiful patio and you have a can’t miss restaurant. All the attention is well deserved and we’ll definitely be back.“
“I've been searching for the perfect bean & cheese burrito and I think these guys pretty much have it. Choose black beans or refried, you can't go wrong. They'll offer to grill it for you (a must) and you can get a variety of salsas to go with. The salsa here really is special - try as many as you can!“
“We were warmly greeted upon arrival. They serve delicious authentic Mexican cuisine. You must give it a try. The restaurant is clean and has a great atmosphere. They play light music in the background. The dishes are flavorful. The waiter was attentive. The owner checked in with us and thanked us for eating at his restaurant. I will definitely be back to try other dishes.Parking: The restaurant has parking in the back and there's also free street parking.“
“Location a bit unusual, but I am not from the area, so maybe it is not. The service was fine. The prices were good. Our foreign exchange student had pollo and asada, which he enjoyed, but said the steak was the better of the two. My partner had the vampiro, which she loved. Finally, I had the quesataco with chivo. It had just the right amount of juice and gaminess. The offer a wide variety of tasty salsas and drinks. With the countless options in the LA area, I would have to be near it or have a goat craving to eat here again.“
“Vegetarian options: Tacos, burrito ? and more available for vegan loversDietary restrictions: Very healthy and fresh and not greasy at allParking: Plenty of room for parking,no chargeKid-friendliness: Very friendly, beautiful Representatives of this restaurant, the chief was very polite and spoke to me and humble attitudes and clean environment especially..... great shrimp burritoWheelchair accessibility: Easy access for wheelchairs also“
“Food was DELICIOUS!!! If you’re craving quesabirria I recommend you this place! 10000/10!!! The cashier was super nice too she made sure we was okay , handle us the food with care! Food came out within 5-10 minutes of ordering it! Super clean “
“Great spot, thanks Yelpers! The mans and I were doing some thrifting in LB and needed a bite and we settled upon this spot and I'm so glad we did. It was the perfect vibe for us. Not crowded and the music wasn't too loud so you can actually hear your date. My boyfriend got the lasagna and it was delicious! I will order this next time. When I think of lasagne I want it to taste like this. And at $16, if also comes with a generous side salad and a side of garlic bread. I got the chicken Marsala ($20) and it came with a generous portion of chicken, sauce, homemade mashed potatoes and the most wonderfully sautéed asparagus. Yum! We will come back here for sure. We had such a lovely meal, we even decided to try the peach cobbler for dessert ($10). It was a big portion that came a la mode. We left happy and full and even had some leftovers. Our server was sweet and attentive. Keep on rockin Tony's! Now we see why you get such great reviews. We will be back soon.“
“BEST SPOT EVER! Everything is on point here. Workers greet you with the friendliest smile. Food is cooked to order. Never cold, never bland like other places. The Ambiance here is so chill and welcoming. With outside dinning. Highly recommend this spot to anyone! You can not go wrong“
“I always receive excellent service here. The best of the best and I most definitely will refer other try out this restaurant and his food.Parking: Make sure you get here in time where you’ll be able to park, this is very popular because of this food and service.“
“Great cocktails, excellent creative dishes, beautiful space. Has free parking across the street. Would be packed if it were in a fancier neighborhood or in LA. Hope more people in LB discover it!Vegetarian options: Definitely enough vegetarian options to get by, all quality.Parking: Street parking is usually tight, but there is reserved off street parking in a lot across the street that I've never seen full.“
“If you love carnitas you def gta check this place out! There is very limited parking but it's worth it ..we ordered one red and one green burrito! One of my favorite breakfast burritos in the area! Must try in your in town! The portions are massive.. You won't be disappointed ?“
“This is a authentic Peruvian friendly and family oriented restaurant in LA. The Loma Saltado doesn’t even need extra salt. It is well seasoned and the flavors are on point. The owner has been in the area for 40 years and people have come to this place for a homie meal.“
“My friend came from Tijuana to visit me ??♂️ and we found this amazing place?? NEW LOCATION, the food is amazing, VEGETERIAN NO PROBLEM i was really happy with the food, service is very friendly and they speak spanish tooI highly recomend this place?IOVE IT“
“We got our food to go, as my mother had some minor surgery on her foot recently, but the food was still wonderfully warm and amazingly good! We plan to return in the future!!!Parking: Parking is sparse in its parking lot and sort of cramped, so park carefullyWheelchair accessibility: They will help you into the building!“
“Came on a Friday afternoon. Found 30 min parking out front. Greeted by friendly staff who allowed me time to look over their pretty simple menu. ORDERED: + pollo burrito ($10.50) -- 9/10 some pieces of pollo meat in the burrito gave beefy jerky texture vibes, but other than that it had really good flavor. + bean and cheese burrito ($9.25) -- 10/10 "it was delicious" is what I was told. + iced tea Ran $22 dollars with tip! OVERALL: Prices are reasonable for the portion size. I would like to see consistency in the cooking of their meat. Lastly, I would return again if I were in the area and try other menu items.“
“This is my first time coming back this tacos stand in over 7 years and this place did not disappoint at all, the tortillas are handmade store is delicious I like that they have a limited amount of meats meaning that whatever you get, will be delicious. People working they provide friendly and fast service. Location is as it should be for street tacos, it's just adds more to the ambience and experience of street tacos 10/10.“
“Love stopping by here after a Dodgers game...always get tacos Al Pastor & then finish the night off with dessert from the churro stand next to the troca. So delish. Tonight we got 4 tacos de al pastor, a burrito de al pastor, an agua de horchata, & a bottle of Sidral (apple soda) & spent $31.Parking: Small parking area since it's also a tire shop...but the security makes it work by telling you where to park.“
“High five to Linda's for another great dish! This morning was the menudo and it was pretty much perfect! Only thing missing was a piece of of pata but not sure if they offer here and I forgot to ask. Can't wait to come back and try a different dish. So far all their caldos/soups have been amazing!!! Cute little family run restaurant! #eatlocal“
“Been coming to this place for years at least twice a month. The tortas never disappoint. I've placed phone orders and they never get it wrong unlike other places. Their customer service is good. In my opinion, it's the best tortas in Los Angeles. However, my only critique is the fact that they are extremely stingy with the napkins and even worse, with the salsa. They give 2 napkins and 1 salsa per torta. If you ask them for more salsa they charge extra. Apart from this, they only accept cash. We are in 2024 they should be accepting card or at least Zelle/Cashapp. All that being said, I'm still a loyal costumer who will keep enjoying these delicious tortas but that wants more napkins and salsa lol“
“I have selfishly not reviewed this great spot for fear it might be too busy for lunch! Shame on me. This is by far my favorite lunch spot. I come every week and they never miss. The owner is super nice and cares about every order leaving his kitchen. Rosie is an angel. She pours her heart in the food and you can surly taste the love. I have literally had everything in the menu. You can't go wrong! Me and my girl friend love sitting outside while enjoying one of their freshly Made drinks.“
“They have good quesabirria tacos and tacos dorados de birria. I really liked how cheesy and flavorful the quesataco is. Their prices are fairly reasonable. The birria is really good! Their red salsa is fire, but their green salsa is a bit watered down for my liking.Their location however, is not in a place that can make you feel safe or comfortable to dine.“
“I rarely do reviews but this one I had too. My husband went and got food. We got 1 burrito de asada, 2 carnitas tacos, 4 asada tacos. I can say these were so booooomb with the red sauce spicy and tasty, salsa had amazing flavor. Green salsa was also good but I like my salsas spicy and red did the trick. But everything was so delicious and definitely going back.“
“After running an errand in the area, G's popped up on Yelp and it did not disappoint. Conveniently located in a plaza with plenty of parking, G's was not hard to find. Upon entering, it was plenty busy for 11am on a rainy day (a good sign.) I was pleasantly surprised they offered $1.25 tacos for Taco Tuesday ! In addition, they offer this special on Thursdays and Sundays! I ordered two asada and two al pastor tacos. After ordering, I helped myself to the salsa/condiment bar which had many of the usual suspects (red, green and an avo salsa along with limes.) The tacos came out freshly cooked and were served on heated yellow corn tortillas. The meats were well seasoned and topped with onions, cilantro and red sauce. I've been on a taco crawl all over LA the past few years and these rival some of the best around. While scarfing down my tacos, I was looking over the handwritten whiteboard menu and noticed that they offered complimentary consome. How awesome is that?! This along with the fact I skipped dinner the night before prompted me to order two birria tacos which along with the consome totally hit the spot . Safe to say I will be returning again and again!“
“Beware that it only opens on Friday afternoon. It's a chill place in the front yard. I got the Tlayuda with moronga. Very delicious and fulfilling. Oaxacan food (southern Mexican food) is rare where I came from (we have mostly northern ones, like Sonora). So this is a novel and special experience for me.“
“Really good food for the price being pretty low. Customer service was nice. They answered my question on a recommendation on what to eat which was very helpful. Just be aware that it's a small restaurant so seating is limited especially during the lunch rush. Besides that it's a great place to eat in or takeout.“
“By far the best califries you can get and the best churros.Califries are amazing cause you can pick 2 meats. They have a wonderful bean and cheese burrito. I enjoy that they have pickled carrots and jalapeño, beans, cucumber and a variety of salsas.“
“My new favorite sushi and marisco spot! I rarely order food from food trucks but I decided to give this place a chance. It did not disappoint! The service is awesome. They are super friendly and answered all the questions I had about their menu. We ordered sushi and it was delicious full of flavors. Additionally, we ordered aguachiles and a tostada mixta. Portions are huge!“
