Back in December, my family was dining there when the owner came over and shared his story behind Riley’s, a tribute to a beloved Labrador who changed his life. He took the time to truly connect with us, and we left thinking, “Wow, this guy is different. He cares.” Fast forward seven months, and I reached out to him with a heartbreaking story about our extended family’s red fox lab, Wrigley, who we lost suddenly and tragically. I hoped he could do something small to honor Wrigley, but his response overwhelmed us. He listened deeply, reacted with empathy, and went above and beyond to honor this pup in a way that brought us comfort and healing. Riley’s on Sutter has now become a special place for our family to gather and remember Wrigley. Beyond the incredible kindness of the owner, the food is phenomenal and the atmosphere is warm and welcoming. We’ve interacted with several staff members, all of whom were exceptionally nice—and yes, they all seem to be dog lovers! I even joked with one employee that it must be a job requirement.
