“Personal Review – Han Nam Udon & Sushi (Garden Grove, CA)
Han Nam Udon & Sushi is my go-to local Korean-Japanese comfort spot. It’s not a flashy place—no trendy decor or Instagram gimmicks—but what it does offer is something harder to find: food that tastes like it was made for regulars, not tourists.
Their udon is the star: rich, clean broth that’s soothing and satisfying, especially on a cool day. The noodles are perfectly chewy, and the toppings are always fresh. I’ve probably ordered the shrimp tempura udon a dozen times and it’s been consistent every visit.
Sushi here is simple, not overcomplicated. It’s not the place for high-end toro or uni, but their rolls are well-balanced and generous for the price. The Han Nam roll is a personal favorite—just enough spice, just enough crunch.
The staff? Quiet but kind. Service is efficient without being rushed. It feels like a family place, the kind of spot you come back to after a long day just to eat something that makes you feel okay again.
Bottom line:
If you want fancy plating or fusion frills, this isn’t it. But if you appreciate simple, honest food with real flavor, Han Nam might become your favorite too.“

“I live in the area and love going to HanaMaru sushi with my partner. We enjoy the food and the pleasant staff who always kindly greet us when we enter and leave!
They have a wide variety of rolls so there should be something for everyone. I've enjoyed all the different ones I've tried so far. For appetizers, chicken karaage and edamame are my go-to's. They do have other items on the menu that aren't sushi so if you do come with non-sushi lovers, there will still be something for them.
For parking, just be warned it might be a little difficult depending on the time of day you go as it's in a small lot that multiple businesses share. However, we've been lucky so far in usually finding a spot either at the right time or not having to wait too long before someone else leaves.“

“Highly recommend! Great for the whole family. The server was super nice and the food was delicious! We ordered the burrito way and the baked Alaska. Excellent. The fish melted in the mouth and the sauces were yummy. Great presentation too. The kids had tamago. They always like the sweet egg sushi.
Kid-friendliness: I always see family with kids here. And my kids eat their food. All good.“

“Did you know that there lies a quaint sushi place that has become a favorite among locals and visitors alike? Now, you do! Kyotori has a warm, inviting vibe. It offers a casual dining experience that doesn't compromise on the quality of its dishes. The menu has an array of sushi options, from the classic rolls, nigiri and sashimi to more innovative ones that cater to both traditional and adventurous tastebuds. Each dish is prepared with the freshest ingredients. The chefs take great pride in their creations. The Jalapeño Albacore Roll and the Scallop & Lobster Baked Roll stand out as must-try dishes for any sushi lover. The Jalapeño Albacore Roll has excellent balance and flavor. This roll blends heat and delicacy in a way that enhances the fish's natural flavor without overpowering it.The Scallop & Lobster Baked Roll is a luxurious indulgence and my favorite! This roll is generously filled with tender scallops and succulent lobster, then topped with a creamy, savory sauce before being baked to perfection. It is a comforting dish. The seafood is cooked just right, maintaining its juiciness. It's a dish that both comforts and excites, making it an unforgettable part of any meal at Kyotori. What sets this restaurant apart, however, is not just the quality of its food but the exceptional service. Dave and Thinh went above and beyond to create a welcoming and comfortable atmosphere, making diners feel valued and appreciated. Whether you are a sushii connoisseur or a newcomer to Japanese cuisine, Kyotori offers an enjoyable meal that promises to leave you coming back for more!“

“All these great reviews are spot on, and you shouldn’t think otherwise. This is the 2nd time coming here with my family and it doesn’t disappoint. So now let me add another 5-star review, to the already many well earned 5-star reviews.
Both times coming here we opted for their 12 piece omakase course with assorted appetizers. Rather than keep repeating the other great reviews on how good the fish tasted, and how fresh the fish was, I’d like to bring attention to how good the rice being used was. Sushi lovers typically focus on the fish, but at the end of the day, fresh fish, is fresh fish… In my opinion, I agree with the notion that it’s the rice that truly makes or breaks the nigiri. And however way the Chef makes his rice is really exceptional, in addition to using the right amount with each piece. Include this with very cold beer, and now you have a winning combination.
In addition to the food, I appreciated the comfortable atmosphere Taira has. Sometimes when we would try other omakase places, the atmosphere was a little too pretentious, just to justify the higher price point.
Thank you Ben and Ayako for another great family sushi night, and next time we will definitely opt for the bar, lol.“
