“I absolutely loved this place. Wines are great!! Linda was so sweet she made the experience so fun and inviting. I will definitely be back soon. The dessert zin was delicious and the sparkling was too. I really like the mulled wine. Never had it and definitely a stand out.“
“Gary was great and can only hope my future wine tastings are as fun and memorable. We talked about the local grapes and his experience as a bottler. We must have gone through 10 different wines (2 white and 9 reds) and was welcomed to more. The $10 tasting fee is comp'd with even a single bottle purchase. My friend was skeptical that they had practically a 5 star rating, but so glad we went and 5 stars is definitely deserved. As a wine neophyte, it was a great experience - I am warned that I should not expect anything even close this experience at other tasting rooms. Only one was a cab, the rest all different and fun wines. Highly recommended. will visit again and bring friends. Thanks Gary and Gossamer wines! What a local treasure. So unpretentious and welcoming.“
“Last August, I visited Camp Angel and Murphys with 4 friends, I discovered this little wine bar, and my fellow traveler said he could drive for me, so I had a cup of beer, it tasted so beautiful. So it was so much fun to find this unforgettable place on my map a year later...“
“I love this wine produced from Aloria winery at their own vineyard overlooking New Melones Reservoir in Calaveras County. Come and meet Dave at the tasting room located across the street from the historic Murphy’s hotel. They have great tasting wines and many different varietals. They have a second label called ‘Above The Rush’ located in Vallecito. At Above The Rush, (the rushed life in the valley and Bay Area) they pair the wine with bites of delicious cheeses and herbs. Say hello to Veronica and Ryan while you enjoy your visit to our beautiful area.“
“Vina Moda is a great little boutique winery that is nestled in downtown Murphys California on a street with multiple winery tasting rooms. Red wines are the expertise here, and the winemaker makes quite a few big heavy reds that stand out. There's plenty of awards displayed showing his success and the ambience is a feeling of a castle like atmosphere with deep dark undertones. The tasting room personnel are very knowledgeable and give great service, letting you try flights of wines or just specific ones. This is by far one of my favorite wine makers in the Calaveras County area and I enjoy all of his wines.“
“Wonderful wine tasting room just off Main Street in Murphys. Walk a few steps down the alley from Toscano's restaurant and you'll find this beautiful little boutique winery that has some of the best wines in Murphys. Very quaint and cozy, super friendly owners on site to greet you, laid back atmosphere with live music on Saturdays.“
“This is the perfect spot to witness the most beautiful daffodils! The town of Murphys is such a cool place, and this winery is a must-see! Before you even enter the winery, you can see daffodils lining the roadside this time of year. It's something I appreciate doing yearly, if possible! This year the daffodils do not disappoint! Take a drive and check these beauties out for yourself!!“
“At the recommendation of some friends, we just tried a flight of wines during a weekday visit to Murphy's. Come to find out, we just missed wine festival crowds by one day (thank goodness). The staff there we're extremely friendly and we shared some info & recommendations with them from our own wine region (in the Paso Robles area). Our flight consisted of a Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Rose', Zinfandel, Cabernet and a red blend. The whites were light & refreshing (and I'm usually not a fan of Chardonnay). The rose' was also refreshing, not too sweet or too dry. Being big fans of Zin, we definitely liked their offering. My husband's favorite was their blend, the Giant Sequoia. They also had a number of lavender products (I took home a few bath bombs to try), as well as a swag section with vintage signs and other rustic decor items. We really enjoyed our tasting and we will return!!“
“The Tasting room is underground, easy to find off main street. The natural rock walls make it a cool cave. We bought a red & white wine for gifts. Lucky for us, Todd's local sourdough bread was delivered there fresh, so we bought 3 loaves. We had never tried it before but heard it was the best. I agree! The staff was very knowledgeable, the owner I think. We were very pleased with our purchases & will be back when we have more time to try all the wines“
“Some restaurants balk when a large group rolls in. We showed up at just before they transitioned to a dinner service, but recieved excellent service none the less. The staff was amazing and went to great lengths to accommodate special diets in our group. Everyone said the food was delicious, and the desserts were also fantastic.I doubt I'll be back in Murphy any time soon, but if I am, I'll be sure to stop by again.Dietary restrictions: Staff went out of their way to make sure a dish could be made Gluten Free. They also were willing to accommodate a picky eater. There were several vegetarian options as well, including a veggie burger that was "much meatier than I expected".“
“Wonderful spot in a wonderful town (shhh... don't tell anyone about Murphys CA). Grounds consistently serves fresh, tasty, well-prepared California cuisine at good prices. I especially enjoyed the crab cakes appetizer (massive and chock-full of actual crab) and their burgers are on-point too. Great locally focused wine list and very classy cocktails. Their sister restaurant, Firewood, dishes out more casual fare and our kids love the pizza there.“
“My kids love JoMa's. The salted caramel ice cream is the best. It's not cheap (spent 19.50 for three single scoops), but to be fair, I recently went to a chain ice cream store in San Jose and it was almost just as expensive. If you want cheap ice cream, eat at home.JoMa's is a fun place to stop if you're walking through town or playing at the creek.“
“The food was delicious, and the wait staff attentive and helpful. Their pho is truly outstanding. Their broth is the most flavorful I’ve ever tried. Everything was delicious though, and their walnut shrimp had the most perfectly steamed broccoli I’ve ever had.“
“The food was very good and there was plenty. We were the first ones in, so the help was still getting and putting things out. It was a cool day but the restaurant was colder, knowing that they opened the back door to allow the warmer air to come in, that helped.Parking: It's Murphy's, street parking is a bummer on weekends but there's plenty of parking in the back street.“
“A perfect pub. Live music, lively service, and nachos. We came in for our second stop in Murphy's. They had all the drink info on the wall, a nice big food menu, and plenty of seating. The bartender who's name maybe Nick? Made us feel right at home. He was a step ahead of our needs the whole time as we sat at the bar and took over for an hour. We laughed and enjoyed ourselves immensely. I would consider that first class service. Ritz level, deep into Calaveras. Will be back for a stouty pint.“
“It's a great place to get some breakfast. Nothing fancy but hot and simply. The food was good but not over the top delicious. The service was good but not fast. Definitely need extra help. We went around 10-10:30 am. On a Thursday morning, it seemed pretty busy for 1 waitress. We tried the chilly, pancakes with eggs and bacon, the breakfast sandwich.“
“We have been happy members for a few years and experienced Hovey Tasting Room during the Open House Parade for the first time! We were catered to by the wonderful staff and volunteers that evening, including our fabulous and very knowledgeable Samantha pouring delicious wines and Pete keeping our warm fire pit going. Thank you both and thank you Laura for another wonderful event!“
“Ultimately the best apple fritter, donuts and pies aroundBest fresh right out of the ovenI can’t decide what I like better the soft sugar coated donuts or the crisp apple fritters.I do like the crumb pie over the regular. You cannot go wrong stopping here …food is delicious and worth the stop“
