“Joanie’s is a staple on California Ave, having been around for more than two decades. After many years, I decided to revisit the place recently.
Some things have changed but the place has mostly stayed the same as I remember it. With good service, decent food options, and lovely atmosphere, Joanie’s is a solid choice.
In the past, service has been a mixed bag. When we went recently it was mostly solid. There were quite a few instances where it took a lot of effort on our part to get a hold of a waiter but when we did, they were friendly, efficient, and got the job done.
The atmosphere, just like most of California Avenue, is more laid back, quiet, and communal. The lovely dining options outside, coupled with the beautiful weather, made the meal more pleasant.
The food itself is solid but nothing exceptional or mind blowing. While many restaurants have evolved over the years, it seems like Joanie’s in many ways is stuck in the past. While their French toast was yummy, their potato options (both the hash brown and potatoes) were just ok and a bit flavorless. The eggs were cooked exactly as requested but the beef hash left a bit to be desired. It seems like while others are innovating, here time has stopped.
Overall, Joanie’s is a classic that’s sticking to their roots while many places are evolving to better serve their customers. What may have been ok 20 years ago doesn’t necessarily make it good enough in today’s competitive landscape. The most I can rate Joanie’s Cafe is 4 stars.“

“Embaixo do hotel mais charmoso de Palo Alto, a França se apresenta em versão californiana. Um lugar bem maneiro, bem legal. E ainda toca Bossa Nova. O que pode ser melhor?“

“This place is very affordable and the food is delicious. We always like to come here with our friends and sometimes we have to be quick otherwise all tables are full! What I would improve, and I've been thinking about this every time I come here, is definitely the ACOUSTICS! Every time the sound is very lous and you can barely hear the next person talking! Especially when it's full. I would recommend some wall acoustic panels for the TV wall. There are nowadays very modern and affordable solutions for acoustic paneling.“

“Hobee's in Sunnyvale is an absolute breakfast and brunch institution, and for good reason! If you're looking for a reliably delicious, hearty, and friendly start to your day, this is the place to be.
The atmosphere at Hobee's is always warm, bustling, and inviting. It has that classic, comfortable diner feel, perfect for families, friends, or even a solo meal with a good book. The staff are incredibly friendly and efficient, always making sure your coffee cup is full and that you're well taken care of, even during their busiest hours.
Now, onto the food – it's simply fantastic. Their blueberry coffee cake is legendary and a must-try with any meal; it's moist, sweet, and utterly delightful. Their omelets are fluffy and generously filled, and their pancakes and French toast are perfectly golden and delicious. I'm also a big fan of their scrambles, which are packed with fresh ingredients and flavor. They have a great variety of classic breakfast items, along with some unique twists that keep you coming back for more.
What I love most about Hobee's is the consistent quality and the generous portions. You always leave feeling satisfied and happy. It's a true community staple that delivers on comfort food with a smile.
If you're in Sunnyvale and craving a top-notch breakfast or brunch experience, make sure to visit Hobee's. You'll quickly understand why it's such a beloved spot!“

“Great Korean food! I like that I can build my own binimbap with salad. I also requested French fries with cheese and homemade kimchi since I liked it when I tried from a food truck before. Sooooooo good! Not on the menu, but worth asking for.“

“They have a surprisingly delicious breakfast burrito that comes with your choice of meat (bacon, chorizo, ham), a generous amount of creamy scrambled eggs, and cheese. Comes with a side of potatoes, sour cream, salsa and guacamole. And all for a relatively reasonable price of $15. It could definitely use a touch more meat.
A welcomed oasis on a long and winding drive (or a bike ride), Alice's is tucked in the middle of a dense forest where it's swaddled by redwood trees. There's also a little general store to grab some snacks, beverages and use the restroom. You come to Alice's for the vibes, not necessarily the food.“

“Love this place - old school donut shop. The breakfast sandwich (croissant, egg, cheese, and ham) was maybe the best I've ever had. Definitely top 3 over the last 30 years.
Coffee is good too - that seems like a weird thing to write, but coffee quality at a lot of places seems to have degraded over the last couple decades(?).“

“The place feels so nostalgic. This place is a diner and a cafe mixed into one. There are a lot of pictures and the drinks are great. Remind me of a western 1980s bar.
I ordered the ice mocha and it was delicious. The people here speak Spanish. Lovely bunch of people!“

“FC resident, haven't been to this location in a loooong time. Our last visit pre-pandemic was not great, so we haven't been back. My wife was jonesing pancakes, so we decided to go. Surprisingly, the food was good, although it was served in substantially smaller portions than what all restaurant portions used to be like. However, service was outstanding from all team members. I recognized the manager and asked him how long he has been there, and he said over 20 years! He had other employees there longer than him. Bottom line: great service, food was good and a fair value. Recommendation - improve the quality of coffee, which tasted like flavored water.“

“Per my 10 yo - “can we add a five star review?!??” He loved the pancakes and scrambled eggs. The fresh squeezed orange juice was amazing, and the omlettes come with hash browns and a side of 3 pancakes or French toast! It’s definitely shareable.“

“This is one of my favorite places for breakfast and brunch. I've been a regular for years, and the service and food have consistently been good. They recently added a few Mexican dishes to their menu, such as chilaquiles, which are a solid choice. Their benedicts, smoothies and bagels are also really good.
However, their pancakes are THE BEST! No matter what I order, I always have to try them. They are simply delicious with a very particular flavor.“

“This place is just simply awesome. Full quality is excellent and the service is just beyond great. There is nothing negative to say about this place. I wish this place was closer to me so I can’t come and visit more often to get great Mexican food.“

“Food - great but little pricey for the qty received. For example - 2 mid size pancakes are for around 15$ , I would suggest it should be around 10 to 11$. Although maple syrup is on the table, they charge additional $, so not sure what's the difference between the one on table vs what they get from inside.
No shakes, only smoothies“

“Wow, this place is a gem! Operated by Sandy, a sweet Korean woman, who makes her own kimchee. Each burrito (I had the breakfast burrito with pork and kimchee) is hand made on a skillet. All the products are cooked. This is fantastic home cooking and super affordably priced. (Note: Cookies are not made at home)“
