I had the Linguine Tutto Mare (thin flat pasta with clams, squid, prawns, scallops and fish, seasoned with tomatoes, crushed red pepper, garlic and white wine.). I think the best Italian dish I have ever had (and I have been to Italy). The pasta was cooked to perfection--none of the flavorless stuff you might find elsewhere, and the sauce was out of this world. My husband had the Grigliata di Mare (Grilled scallops, prawns, calamari, parsley, lemon sauce, roasted potatoes and arugula salad) and also raved about it. Great service and reasonable prices. 💞We will definitely be back!“

As a person on the carnivore diet, I find it refreshing I can order an all protein meal and be completely satiated without paying an arm and a leg. “On January 2nd, I visited Gypsy’s Trattoria Italiana in Berkeley with a friend, and let me tell you, this place is a hidden gem.

I ordered Special #2: a huge plate of pasta in a rich, creamy pesto-style sauce with veggies, topped with tender, well-seasoned steak strips and served with hot, steamy garlic bread slathered in freshly made smashed garlic butter. It came out piping hot and smelled incredible. My friend had a different pasta dish and could only finish half—the portions are no joke. I definitely overate, in the best way.

The vibe is casual, the service is quick, and the staff are friendly and warm. For the price, the food honestly rivals what you’d get at some high-end Italian restaurants, which makes it an easy yes for me.

I highly recommend not only visiting Gypsy’s, but specifically ordering Special #2 if you see it. I’d love for them to cement this as a permanent menu item. It deserves a permanent spot! I’ll absolutely be back and plan to bring family from all over the world here when they visit Berkeley.“

“Just visited the location in Vallejo. Our server Dana was super sweet and attentive. We probably spent less than 1h in the restaurant. We were seated right away, food came fast, warm and delicious. All the other employees were also super friendly. It was my husband’s birthday so we got a free dessert to take home. Very affordable and delicious. Will definitely come back“

I love the nacho fries because they make them with nacho cheese instead of shredded cheddar. Also ive had breakfast burritos at multiple places in the area and the ones here blow any of those out of the water, the regular burritos are good too. “Had a craving for pizza; thought of this place and ordered a small Original through DoorDash. It did not disappoint. Substantial pizza for a “small” and the price. No skimping with the toppings and was exactly as pictured on the website, so no false advertising. Sauce was just right. Enjoyed the classic crust, too, but may try the thin crust text time.“

“Best kept secret of El Sobrante: El Chalan, Peruvian and Italian restaurant, offers a family atmosphere with great food at a good price. Warm bread and butter is served from the beginning. Their roast 1/2 chicken and whole fried trout, with home style french fries are very popular. Their sea food dishes, especially the seafood soups are delicious. The Italian food is also excellent. Butter nut squash raviolis, gnocchi, and spaghetti are cooked perfectly. Kids love this place.“

“They used to have one of these in Hayward. My family was extremely low income growing up but when we had anything extra, we'd get nachos from this place. I drove nearly two hours when I found out a sister restaurant existed after the one in Hayward closed a few years ago. Everything was the same. The menu, the atmosphere, the smell, the food. It was a little pricey, but it is and ever will be the best super nachos I've ever had anywhere. The chips are extra fried so they never get soggy. The meat is tender. The cheese is real mozzarella not that nasty orange canned crap. If you live near here, please support this business, and just know you won't find better nachos anywhere.
