“The cashier was so nice! I was waiting for my order and the customer made her order and found out that she forgot her money at home. The lady who was at the register said you can get your order and pay later . I think she was the owner.“

“Stopped by for lunch at 2pm and plenty of seating inside. I used the self order kiosk on the table, which made ordering a breeze. The sushi rolls came out in about 8-10 minutes and they were huge rolls.

I typically eat two, but I coule barely finish these. They were incredibly filling and each roll was less than $12, which is a great deal in 2024. Service was excellentand I really enjoyed the meal. I get work done on my car across the street often, so i'll be stopping by whenever i'm in the area from now on.

Parking: It seems like there are about 12 or so spots, but also plenty of parjing along E.14th in front of the restaurant, as well as the side street which crosses it.

Wheelchair accessibility: Plenty of access for wheelchairs.“

Picked up a salad today from Green and Grains and boy was I surprised at the portion! 1 salad was enough for my wife and myself; with leftovers for later!

Got to speak to Ian for a little bit and was surprised that all the ingredient are organic and locally sourced. Including the pickled onions being made in house!

For a guy who doesn’t eat salads, I would say the Asian chicken was the best salad I’ve ever had!

Going to try their sandwiches on the next visit!

“I’m touring a condo in Oakland for a client making an offer and I stop for a quick bite at a tiny sandwich place next to the Grand Lake Theater. OMG, Unbelievable sandwiches, smoked meats, homemade pickles, peppers🫑 and memorable pulled pork, etc. I hang out for a few minutes while Jerry makes my Cuban sandwich, and he has me try their smoked bacon, homemade meatballs, and more. “I saw someome make a TikTok about this place and immediately knew I had to add that to my list. I headed out to Berkeley on a Friday morning to try it out and I bought a friend who isnt a big fan of Thai and or Asian food. I was thankful to experience this style of northern Thai cuisine I believe the order Tanzie referred to it as. The hospitality and service was above average. I enjoyed all of my food and so did my friend. The pork jowl was agreed to be are favorite out of the all the dishes we tried. Very juicy , flavorful and just all around deliscious topped off with that crispy fried garlic. The brown rice over that soft scrambled "lava egg" was to die for paired with the savory tomato based minced pork that I ordered extra spicy of course. The star of the show that me and my friend both agreed on had to be the "prik nam pla" which I would describe as a sweet and spicy vinegar or fish sauce based dipping sauce accompanied by a nice punch of spice from the thai chili peppers. I dont have any complaints whatsoever and I will definitely be back.“

“They just opened and are still working it out. It’s right next to Thanh Ky and a block away from Cam Huong. Got the rarely found Lort Cha, Cambodian Stir fried pin noodles. It only comes with beef. (They should consider offering other proteins). And their Lao style papaya salad (spicy and stinky which I love).

I really wanted to love the Lort Cha but it was sooo sweet, chef prob went a little too heavy handed with the sugar. It’s a savory dish. Papaya salad was good. Portions are huge here bc I think it’s a new business so they don’t have their portions down yet. Everything is also hella cheap.

Will not be coming back unfortunately but try them out tho! The owner seems chill.“

“I’ve been coming here for 7+ years and the food has always been high quality, delicious, and well portioned. Can’t go wrong with their salads and recently I’ve learned the paninis are fantastic as well. I will say it’s good to order online and pickup, and leave a little time buffer as they can get pretty busy over the lunch rush. The staff can get really busy but they’ve always been helpful and courteous.“

“I was looking for a salad somewhere other than Mixt and was directed here by a friend. Their salads are so good, full, fresh, and they're so flavorful you don't need much dressing at all. It was so good that I went back for lunch the very next day. I've only had their grilled chicken in a salad, but it's delicious and can be gluten free. Definitely worth the DoorDash delivery!!“

“I have been looking for an authetic New York Pizza in the East Bay for a while. Many have attempted, many have failed. But Bloom has come the closest I’ve seen — Cheese was excellent, sauce tasted right, and the crust was crispy. The only thing I have to say is that the dough is a little bland, so it’s a bit boring to eat the crusts. But all in all, a fantastic pizza. Would I pay the prices that they charge in New York? Not at all. It is a bit overpriced. Also, I wish pizza shops here would put out oregano alongside the red pepper flakes and parmesan. This would bring me great joy and back to NYC in my mind. I can tell they really are trying hard with their pizzas and have to give them immense credit for it.“

“As a Colombian-American that grew up in Miami, I did not think I was going to find good Colombian food in the Bay. Macondo has emphatically shown me I was wrong. “This place is exactly the spot you want to come to for lunch. The owner is super nice and you can tell it’s got regulars with how he greets everyone in the door. The menu itself is quite vast but he does a good job walking folks through it and running a tight ship.

Sandwich itself was quite tasty. I went for the brisket which was juicy and tender. Certainly will fill you up as well. I would love to come back to this place to try it again next time I’m in town.“

“One of the best restaurants in Elmwood (4/5 green stars) It’s so easy to walk right by Summer Kitchen without even noticing it. It’s a narrow shopfront with just a few tables outside and it’s easy to miss as you ponder ice cream and other offerings from neighbors. Well, take it from me – forget ice cream and get a baked item from Summer Kitchen instead! Or try a pizza, or an egg salad sandwich – possibly the best egg salad sandwich you’ll ever have. But if you are limited for time, try one of the fresh fruit pastries (galette) – they seem expensive at $12 but they are big enough for two and totally worth it! I’m giving Summer Kitchen 4/5 Green Stars for social and environmental impact. The positives are obvious – most of the ingredients are organic and locally sourced. Everything is made from scratch and there is transparent sourcing of the meat and fish (Mary’s free-range chicken, etc.). There are a reasonable amount of vegetarian options and you can definitely find some vegan dishes too (salads, sandwich, pasta). Summer Kitchen could make the biggest environmental impact by scrapping beef from the menu – replacing it with plant-based alternatives, ideally. Beef has a carbon footprint of around 10 times that of chicken and over 100 times that of pea protein, on average. If everyone one the planet ate 1 lb. of beef per week (the US average), total greenhouse gas emissions would increase by one third! I’ll write a post illustrating all of this soon on the Green Stars Project. So I really appreciate that Summer Kitchen makes more effort than the vast majority of restaurants on improving sustainability so that’s my suggestion for the biggest opportunity for improvement – cut the beef.“
