“Im not a salad guy, but my wife loves salad.

Picked up a salad today from Green and Grains and boy was I surprised at the portion! 1 salad was enough for my wife and myself; with leftovers for later!

Got to speak to Ian for a little bit and was surprised that all the ingredient are organic and locally sourced. Including the pickled onions being made in house!

For a guy who doesn’t eat salads, I would say the Asian chicken was the best salad I’ve ever had!

Going to try their sandwiches on the next visit!

Had the pleasure of talking to one of the owners for awhile, and he told us a lot about the food and his + his partner’s connection to it/the restaurant/Cambodia. “I was looking for a salad somewhere other than Mixt and was directed here by a friend. Their salads are so good, full, fresh, and they're so flavorful you don't need much dressing at all. It was so good that I went back for lunch the very next day. I've only had their grilled chicken in a salad, but it's delicious and can be gluten free. Definitely worth the DoorDash delivery!!“

The momo was a solid C—, like the grade you get when you show up to class but don’t really try. I ordered the mixed ones, steamed, and the dough was a bit chewy and torn.The portion was big, the filling was so mysterious I couldn’t even tell what I was chewing—could’ve been chicken, could’ve been my hopes and dreams.

It’s a narrow shopfront with just a few tables outside and it’s easy to miss as you ponder ice cream and other offerings from neighbors. Well, take it from me – forget ice cream and get a baked item from Summer Kitchen instead! Or try a pizza, or an egg salad sandwich – possibly the best egg salad sandwich you’ll ever have. But if you are limited for time, try one of the fresh fruit pastries (galette) – they seem expensive at $12 but they are big enough for two and totally worth it! I’m giving Summer Kitchen 4/5 Green Stars for social and environmental impact. The positives are obvious – most of the ingredients are organic and locally sourced. Everything is made from scratch and there is transparent sourcing of the meat and fish (Mary’s free-range chicken, etc.). There are a reasonable amount of vegetarian options and you can definitely find some vegan dishes too (salads, sandwich, pasta). Summer Kitchen could make the biggest environmental impact by scrapping beef from the menu – replacing it with plant-based alternatives, ideally. Beef has a carbon footprint of around 10 times that of chicken and over 100 times that of pea protein, on average. If everyone one the planet ate 1 lb. of beef per week (the US average), total greenhouse gas emissions would increase by one third! I’ll write a post illustrating all of this soon on the Green Stars Project. So I really appreciate that Summer Kitchen makes more effort than the vast majority of restaurants on improving sustainability so that’s my suggestion for the biggest opportunity for improvement – cut the beef.“

Oori exceeded all my happy food requirements and then took me for a ride through food blissfulness worth each bite. I had chicken teriyaki, grilled salmon, and spicy tuna triangles. On the side, I complimented it with miso soup and ginger. Each flavor was distinct and made my taste buds ooh, ahh, and wow for more. I'll be back here for more without question. I felt like I was dining at a 5-star restaurant and found the food reasonably priced.“

“My friends and I have visited The Crêpe Pan, Oakland, on the corner of Piedmont Avenue and Linda Avenue. for a girls night a few times. Everything that we chose on the menu was absolutely delicious. We have tried several of their savory and sweet crêpes as well as eggs, Benedict and salads. Very delicious gourmet foods that we very much enjoy. They have a variety of menu items that are all delicious, well-made, and healthy options. The service at the crêpe pan is phenomenal, the staff are very friendly, polite, accommodating, and catering to the needs of their customers. We had the wonderful opportunity to connect with the owner, Joseph as well. On a regular basis, both Joseph and his wife Mai are on the restaurant floor helping and make friendly connections and smiles with their customers. We love the location, customer service and delicious foods. Thank you so much for all that you do for our Oakland community, Joseph, Mai and staff.
