Beer Bars near Santa Cruz

Sante Adairius • Santa Cruz Portal Brewery • $$
1315 Water St, Santa Cruz

“Sante Adairius Rustic Ales offers an exceptional beer selection; the highlighted brew was particularly noteworthy. The accompanying pizza surpassed expectations, boasting delicious flavors. Keep in mind that the brewery tends to get quite busy around 5 o'clock, so plan accordingly. Additionally, it's a very kid-friendly place, making it a great option for families.“

“Parking: paid street parking. I believe they have a small parking lot in the rear.Seating: When I came, they let you sit anywhere available. There is indoor and outdoor seating. The outdoor seating does have heaters around. Bar seating is also here.Food: I ordered the chicken katsu and it came with rice and another side. It was good, especially with their pineapple BB sauce. I also tried the coconut shrimp which was really crispy and good.Service: you might have to wait for seating, but everyone I interacted with is friendly and helpful. The people at the takeout, the bartenders, and the servers. They have TVs all around the place showing premier sports like March Madness games.Drinks: They are really great for the price. You will have a great timeParking: Back of restaurant building and very small. Better off looking at paid street parking“

Captain's Game Deck Beer Bar • $$
400 Beach St, Santa Cruz

“Often overlooked bar in Santa Cruz, looking out over Neptunes Kingdom. The pirate themed mini golf course provides a surreal background for imbibing beers and playing pool and pinball. If you go in winter, chances are you'll have the place to yourself.“

Mission West Cocktail Bar • $$$
2405 Mission St, Santa Cruz

“The vibe at Mission West is just right. We have sat outside with the pup a few times but last night we chose inside. The bar is beautiful and tidy, the mixers made us fabulous cocktails (the smoothest Boulevardier in town), and the other clients were friendly too. There was an engagement party going on in the back and the staff easily took care of the group's needs as well as the others of us. We were impressed that the owner Max came in on a Friday night at 8:30 to help out behind the bar. Mission West is my new go-to neighborhood bar!“

“My family (wifey & our twin daughters) checked out this spot while on a getaway between Santa Cruz and Monterey back in January (2024). We were looking for a local spot and chose this place near the mall. Once inside, it felt like we were in a hood spot off the beach in Honolulu. The wifey and Twin A both ordered the Kai-Bi Short Rib plate, Twin B ordered the Pono Burger and I ordered the Mahi Mahi plate. Maaaaannnn, everything was delicious!! And the service was wonderful! This will be a go-to spot from now on!“

“Hands down the best fast slice pizza in Santa Cruz. And at the right price too. The slices are massive, delicious, and I don't know how they're able to get the dough simultaneously so fluffy yet crunchy every bit of the way?! Ever since the ownership change, this place just keeps getting better and better. Lovely staff, and a great place to either sit and munch a slice or take to go. Skip pizza my heart and check these folks out.“

“Tried the Charlie pizza and burrata appetizer. The pizza is excellent - best I've found in the area. The crust is crispy and airy but tender inside. Sauce is simple and good and the toppings are top quality. The burrata is served with oven dried tomatoes and fry bread, and is just outstanding. Nice job!“

“Second time here. I love the wine choices and the menu. I had cheese and charcuterie platter. Can't go wrong with that option. I definitely enjoy the live music in the evening. Went on a Saturday. If you don't reserve or get there early though the place is small so it gets full fast and without seats they don't serve you. Cute and nice ambiance“

“East End is great place with a great aesthetic. It has almost a galley kitchen vibe with table seating down one side and the bar on the other. There's even booth seating upstairs which is cool. We like coming here when in a mood for splitting a speciality pizza and salad. They keep a ton of local beers on tap, local wine and other specialty drinks. Recently, they were really accommodating to a party with 7 adults and 2 toddlers, but given there isn't a lot of table space it was a tight squeeze upstairs! But they provided coloring pages and crayons to the kiddos to keep them busy which was nice.“
