“Came here for a friends birthday and he was looking for an elevated Chinese restaurant - New Haven’s Taste of China fit the bill. We started off with delicious jasmine tea. We tried and assortment of dumplings but my favorite were the vegetable ones. For our main course we shared the tea smoked duck, the kung pao chicken, and the mongolian beef. Overall they were pretty good but they didn’t wow me. If someone was looking for Chinese in the New Haven area I would throw New Haven’s Taste of China in the mix.“

“A nice, bright, and clean spot for some delicious Chinese food take-out right in the center of Branford. You'll find the typical dishes found on most Chinese food menus; however, the quality of food is great. I ordered through their website which lists all the menu items, most of which have pictures attached. It is very user friendly, making it easy to navigate, order, and pay all online. The wait time was reasonable and the worker behind the counter was friendly. I ordered the shrimp with mixed vegetable combination which was served with pork fried rice and an egg roll. The portion was generous, and the food tasted fresh and flavorful. The egg roll had a crispy consistency and not oily. If you are craving Chinese food, I would recommend checking out China Garden.“

“I ordered take out, it was ready when I got there. I would say the food is slightly above average as far as Chinese food goes. One thing to note is they put a piece of cardboard at the bottom of the bag to keep orders stable, you rarely see this level of care & effort.“

“I literally can’t believe how incredible the food was. This is what casual Chinese used to taste like back in the day. It was as if I was a child tasting boneless spare ribs and crab rangoon for the very first time.. The spare ribs were charred and tender and the rangoon was made with actual crab as opposed to the typical “crab flavored” cream cheese. The pork fried rice was also remarkably flavorful with large cubes of pork and perfectly cooked onion. Those who have complained about the food specifically must be miserable Karens. This is my new favorite casual Chinese spot. 10/10“

“I'm a rice lover. In my culture(s) rice is a staple so when I go to a Chinese restaurant I make my decision on the rice then go from there. They did not disappoint. Did not smell old oil, nor did the food tast like old oil. Even with delivery the service is nice and respectful. Introduced others and they too like the restaurant.“

“I saw this place in East Haven ai was out for a bike ride. I’ve been craving Chinese food and haven’t found my go to spot yet. I ordered shrimp in lobster sauce and tofu with mixed vegetables. Both came with rice, and my total was about $28. There’s enough food for three or four meals. I’d definitely go back! My only complaint is that they don’t deliver to my area, but none of the Chinese places nearby seem to Vegetarian options: They have tofu and brown rice instead of fried rice with egg. I agree with someone else’s review here. The rice is not very good, but the main dishes I had are!“

“They have apparently either learned to cook since opening or maybe it depends on what you order. The roast pork with snow peas is always excellent, they have decent PFR and lo mein. When they first opened, I ordered several things and they were all bad. Back then the General Tsao's chicken was like sweet and sweet and sour (I haven't tried it again because it was so bad) and they couldn't cook even rice. Still glad to have them in the neighborhood.“

The Asian food scene is sadly lacking in New Haven, and buns n dumplings helps fill the dumpling-shaped hole in my tummy a little.I ordered take out with 2 friends and among the 3 of us, we ordered just enough food to finish everything and be stuffed. It took about 30 minutes for all the food to be prepared for us to pick up. The Shanghai soup dumplings were good in flavor, but unfortunately soup-less. They may have been prepared earlier than the other items in our order and while sitting in the container, the soup soaked into the wrappers. Similarly, the scallion pancakes were mildly warm and quite soggy/not crispy or flaky. It's likely they were made earlier too and sat in the container while everything else was prepared. The lotus leaf sticky rice, shumai, and fried dumplings were a HIT; we will definitely be ordering those again next time. The peanut noodles were okay. We had a lot of noodles for not a lot of sauce, so a lot of the noodles (especially at the bottom) were quite plain. I did really appreciate that there were actual peanuts in the dish and not just peanut sauce alone!The place is a tiny hole in the wall with one or two small tables at the front of the restaurant. I can't really see anyone dining in here, so I imagine it's mostly take out. Unfortunately, this does mean a lot of foods aren't eaten as soon as they are prepared--possibly leading to soupless soup dumplings and soggy scallion pancakes. 4/5 for the food; will definitely order from here again!“

“My hairdresser only eats from here I tried it about : weeks ago early part of December and was very happy with the food and service, I also was given a calendar for 2024. I believed I had wings before when my hairdresser ordered but not an entire meal. It was enough to eat all at once if I wanted to but I broke it up and taste was still there the next day. Ordered the shrimp and broccoli and nice size shrimp. I was very impressed I am impressed and definitely will recommend to try and I will go back.
