“Week to week this is a lovely Chinese restaurant to order a number of appetizer favorites and house special meals. They’re ALWAYS busy but manage to prepare your order in a timely manner.Personal favorite is letter M with a substitution of beef lo mein instead of vegetables. They’re always accommodating and do not give you an attitude when you ask for a substitute. I rather take a 20 minute drive to this Chinese restaurant than a few of the local establishments.Despite the airy clear film divider, the area where they prep our food appears to be quite clean and not cluttered. Give them a try. Despite the older negative reviews, every business deserves a chance to improve. Give Fortune Cookie a try!Pros: fresh food, flavor is never lacking (not salty), clean working area, professional, on time and consistentCons: they’re closed on Tuesdays“

“Went with my daughter and we got to plates and two sodas. Paid over $50 for food that was ok but not great. The service was fast but its really more of a take out place. We dined in and it felt like we were eating in their back pantry. The table was so wobbly we decided to make a game of it to see who could eat without spilling. Would not go back again.“

“always love coming here, they are always on time but today was not the day to make me wait 75 minutes for my order. My son and I spent 3 hours at CCMC for his final cardiologist appointment... then I wait for food!!! I honestly wished I got something for me waiting so long. I've been going there since they opened... I will continue to go but if this happens again I might not 🤔🤔“

“5/11/2025 Best and least expensive Chinese Restaurants around! I've been ordering here for decades and still order here. Ordering here for Mother's Day actually. Thanks for all the good times. :)“

“It is a place that I have visited for more than 20 years. They cook delicious.Good portion. It is a place that they visit a lot.But it is not a place to eat, there is on the table, it is more to take the food home. Its Owners are Chinese, very feisty and hard-working people. Its owners are a couple.and they are the the only ones that run this restaurant.
Wheelchair accessibility: It has its ramp for the wheelchair. A bit of a problem is holding the door.“

“Ordered on a whim when the menu was left at my door today. Definitely not disappointed! Had 3 different sushi rolls and a seafood udon, all fresh and delicious, even my toddler ate it up! They also carry my husbands favorite Thai tea so that's a bonus!“

“Our regular restaurant was closed and this one is close by so, we decided to give them a try. Let me tell you, the food was very good, better than our regular place! We ordered; General Tso’s chicken, pork Chow Mein, and chicken and broccoli. The meat to vegetable ratio was outstanding, I was really surprised. The price is not matched either, we got those three meals for $36.04, you can’t get breakfast for that for three people!!
We now have a new Chinese restaurant!!“

““Home Is Springfield.” That is the restaurant’s website name — homeispringfield.com — but also what it calls to me. I came across Ho Mei during my first week in Springfield, wandering the city with no real direction, just hoping to find some place that felt safe. I didn't expect to find home.
What first caught my eye was a Shen Yun poster in the window — a sign of cultural pride that immediately stopped me in my tracks. As someone who’s quietly in awe of the strength, grace, and deep soul of Chinese culture, seeing that felt like a spiritual invitation. I’ve seen Shen Yun before and highly recommend it to anyone who still believes in beauty as a form of survival. That poster told me this place wasn’t just a business — it was a place of memory, culture, and quiet care.
From the outside, Ho Mei looks unassuming. No frills. Just a clean menu in the window and that single, stirring sticker tucked under it. But once I stepped inside, I felt something shift. The space is small but open and bright. It’s not trying to impress — it’s simply, beautifully present. It reminded me of good feng shui (though I admit I don’t know much about it), and the feeling was clear: this is a place where things are in order, where care lives quietly.
I was greeted by a young man behind the counter — gentle, professional, and kind. His voice had the softness of someone who speaks English with reverence, each word carefully chosen, as is the way across so many Chinese dialects. It reminded me that language, like food, is art too.
I asked for sweet and sour chicken (I’m sorry, Auntie — I know that’s embarrassing), but was gently introduced to more traditional options. I chose orange chicken in the end, and my lack of cultural depth was met not with judgment, but comfort. I told him I’d come in because of the Shen Yun sign, and as I stumbled to express my admiration for Chinese culture, I started crying — overwhelmed by feeling, and maybe by shame. He smiled — not in pity, but in understanding. I excused myself to the bathroom, but I felt safe. That is cultural hospitality — not loud, not performative. Just real.
There were only two tables inside, at least when I visited. I chose one and sat down, intending to wait for my takeout. But everything changed with the first bite. The appetizer was so good I couldn’t stop. Then came the wonton soup — perfectly hot, like the medicine I didn’t realize I needed. And then the orange chicken... I meant to take it home, but I finished it right there.
This is food made with devotion. Food that’s not just delicious — ho mei means “good taste” in Cantonese — but healing. Comforting. Like it had been made for someone who’s wandered for a long time. Like me.
The prices were so low I almost didn’t believe them. Coming from Boston, Cambridge, and Worcester, it felt like a miracle. I left a large tip out of gratitude, only to find the next day it hadn’t been accepted. I guess I’ll have to return with a red envelope — to thank this homie, I mean Ho Mei, for their kindness, their welcome, and the unspoken grace of this little restaurant.
TLDR: Ho Mei isn’t flashy. It doesn’t put on false pretenses. It is just true and good. A quiet corner of Springfield where food is made with honor and served with something I haven’t found in a long time — but that I’ve been finding, over and over again, here in Springfield: heart.
For anyone who’s felt a little lost — culturally, emotionally, spiritually — this might be the place that grounds and nourishes you again. Ho Mei makes me feel like home is Springfield, even when home is far.“

“Update: tried the house fried rice for the first time, highly recommend! Hot and sour soup is always excellent. The menu prices have gone up a little (about 50¢ more per entree type item) and the hours a different now too. They are only open on Tuesdays in December. Otherwise they are closed on Tuesday.Good Chinese, very friendly, very fast. The prices are reasonable and you get a good amount of food. I find it better than the other Chinese restaurant Hang's in Stafford.Be aware that there is no indoor seating. There's some picnic tables in the grass but appears to be mostly take out.“

“My wife and I were in the area and wanted to try a different place for takeout and Jack Chen II was on our way home. The food was very good and fresh, and our order was ready right on time. We got a pu pu platter for 2 with house fried rice, and a small order of chicken teriyaki. We would order from here again.“

“We had a lovely family dinner here with our daughter, her husband and 2 little ones. Everything was terrific, from service to moo shoo. Can't believe earlier reviews which were negative. Have been coming here for dine-in or takeout for several years, and always enjoy it!!!“

“Good places. Good food. No delivery. Prices are good. Decent white rice. Dumplings and sauce are great but the sauce container is laughably small. They could triple the size and it would just be enough. Decent general tsos, light not heavy so if you want some thick sauce this is not it. Beef teriyaki was lackluster.“

“I've been looking for a good Chinese place nearby and I've tried several. None have been as good or consistent as this. The food here is ACTUALLY good - the portions are very good, and the prices are extremely attractive. Keep doing what you guys are doing - you've got it right!“

“This is the best Chicken Teriyaki that I've had in Connecticut since I moved here. It's so good, it's almost exactly like the stuff from the Chinese food place that I used to go to in Bridgewater MA when I lived the next town over. I know where to get my Chinese food from now, thank you for making chicken teriyaki the way that you do.“

“I really don’t consider it a sit down place, I could see it if it were closer to a work area that it would be a good lunch spot. We used to live very close to the restaurant now we live all the way in South Hadley and I will travel there to get the best Chinese food in Springfield“

“Fabulous!! Choosing any other Chinese restaurant would be a big mistake. Such flavor, tenderness to the meats, terrific pork fried rice, crunch to the fried shrimp coating but tenderness to the shrimp. Fantastic!!!! Well worth the money. You won't be disappointed ?!!“

“We enjoyed dinner here and the food was excellent, fast service, good value. Enjoyed the pork fried rice, egg rolls were a little different than what I am used to which is why I gave 4 stars vs 5, but overall great experience. Pictures is jumbo shrimp with veggies, crispy orange beef and beef and broccoli were also delicious.“
