“Faux-makase! (Fake omakase) is exactly what it is. Self proclaimed “non traditional omakase.” Also know as slow-makase. Nossa deserves a noose-a. I was recommended this restaurant by my hotel concierge. Had a horrible experience here. Should have known since they require pre-payment online via tock which actually codes as professional services and not a restaurant so they avoid the credit card fees. By the way, they will ask you to pay a ridiculous and mandatory 20% service charge plus tax after your “meal.” After payment, you will receive an email which says “The day of your reservation you will receive an email with instructions to access to the speakeasy bar.” However, I never received any email. I put nossa into google and it took me to the filthy, run down Hyatt centric hotel. I went inside and asked where the restaurant was and they took me through a stinky alley next to the hotel trash room said to knock the door. This made me extremely uncomfortable and almost decided to just leave. Little did I know the horror I was about to experience. I knocked the door and a lady asked for the password so I gave my last name on the reservation. She didn’t open and kept asking for a password. I demanded she open the door and gave my last name on the reservation. She said I should have received instructions on a paper from another restaurant on the other side of the street which I was not informed of. She said I was late and that they already started so she showed me to my seat. The room felt like a sewer with too many people crammed around a dirty scratched up bar. I was in group 11 which means there were at least 20 guests there. The music was horrendous and unbearable. The ambiance was very creepy. The staff smelled really bad. I was offered a welcome drink which I opted for a sparking water which was not sparking at all as it was flat without bubbles so they brought me a bottle instead. They didn’t ask about any allergies and handed me the first course which I had to spit out because it contained alcohol which I don’t drink. The chef kept inaudibly shouting out the descriptions of the dishes for each course towards different corners of the room in an attempt for everyone to hear but you only hear and understand the words which were said in your direction. All the ingredients were old and not fresh. The food did not taste good. The portions were tiny so don’t think you’ll be full when you leave here by any means. The place is extremely unsanitary. The chef even wipes your plates using the same towel as the previous groups one after another. I was absolutely disgusted. Finally the last course came and again I was served alcohol without being told what it was. Luckily the chef caught it before I could drink it and replaced it with iced tea. I asked if we’re were finished and she said yes. The experience was a complete waste of time so we were happy to walk out and leave. The lady chased us on our way out and said there was an additional payment to be made for gratuity and tax. I asked if this was mandatory and she answered yes. Mind you this was never communicated before. She also said she didn’t have a wireless credit card machine so I gave her my physical card to go swipe and come back. The chef came out, handed me my receipt and credit card then asked: “Is there a reason why you’re unhappy.” I answered: Yes, I didn’t enjoy the experience. He shrugged his shoulders and replied: “I’m sorry but unfortunately not everybody does, I guess” I was shocked and just stormed out. Exit left next to the trash room, literally.“

“I love the hand rolls, drinks, and deserts here! The happy hour is incredible value for such great quality food. The lobster hand roll and wagyu hand rolls are the absolute best. Sabrina and the rest of the staff are incredibly kind as well.

“I'm from New York and I can honestly say this place has great Sushi for a very reasonable price. Very authentic, whole in the wall in the best way possible. The boats with the sushi gives it a very unique experience. The place was super busy on a Wednesday and the wait was about 40 minutes. We went next door for beers while we waited and it was worth the wait. Food was delicious, the ginger and wasabi was fresh as well as all the sushi. Service was tough love with lots of smiles, because they are so busy ! Over all 10/10 amazing experience!“

“My boyfriend and l arrived here at 10 ish pm and we were instantly greeted. All of the staff was extremely kind and helpful. My boyfriend and I each ordered individual rolls and then had some wagyu ramen which was all delicious. The servers were extremely understanding when we asked to switch to a booth, and made it feel like no issue at all.
Our server Roland, was extremely attentive and caring. Food was amazing & the overall vibe of the place was nice as well. Will definitely be back.“

“We've been to El Secreto 5x over a few years and each time it is simply spectacular in every way. Chef Eric and Chef Carlos are exceptional chef's and human beings. It's so fun to chat with them in such a personal/intimate setting while they prepare each dish and to hear them explain the details of each course. “I had a wonderful time at Japón last night! After seeing some negative reviews I was a little worried as I can be picky. The team did a wonderful job at giving us a great meal! The food came out in perfect timing, the raw fish dishes were high quality. The miso cod was cooked perfectly. They even brought us an off menu dish my friend requested. ❤️ We were treated like guests in a home and didn’t have to ask a waiter for assistance as they were checking on us right when we needed something. “I would not just recommend this place I would come out of my way again in a heartbeat. It is so relieving to actually find a place that has great service again. I feel after the pandemic, it's really changed the service force. It was such a fresh breath of air to have such an amazing time and service! I had a party of 11 of us for my birthday, and we were treated with smiles, and taken care of like kings. The food was phenomenal! Some of the most beautiful, fresh seafood I have ever had in my entire life. I've been traveling seven years full-time, and I will definitely be coming back just to eat here! The patio is absolutely gorgeous! It will soon be right on the ocean once they are finishing some construction! “It was a very lively atmosphere on the rooftop with great ocean views. The food was was a mix of traditional Japanese dishes with a modern feel. We especially liked the grill octopus. It's a must try! Excellent waiters capped the night off for us. It was a very enjoyable experience!!“

“We arrived at 9:30 pm and were the only patrons ? which was slightly worrying. But the staff seemed pretty relaxed about it so we thought... maybe this is a really late night place? And we were right! After 45 minutes more people started coming in and we felt less awkward. All that is to say: book a late sitting! Service was great. We're frequent restaurant patrons and know good food... and this food was seriously good. We hadn't expected such excellent food in this ‘clubstaurant' atmosphere but honestly some of the best food we've had in south beach (we live here). Overall, a bit of a weird start being totally alone in a restaurant on a Saturday night, but if you book for 10:00 or later you're in for a great night!“

This place would be great for romantic dates- the waitstaff was friendly, nice, and courteous with our questions and helped us make the best choices from the menu. She made sure that our group of 12 was accomodated with rooms and continued to work on the issue to get us in the designsted rooms for the bride and guests.
