Uchi kind of feels like what Nobu was 15 years ago - an innovative twist on Japanese food. At Uchi, however, you won't find seemingly ubiquitous spicy mayo or rock shrimp tempura. We went for happy hour and sampled nearly all of the hot and cold dishes offered. Many were well conceptualized and delicious, but some fell a bit flat. Even happy hour was a four dollar sign affair, so we can only imagine the sticker shock of a full fledged dinner. I didn't know what I wanted to eat so I ordered a few things that sparked my interest. The food here is a 9/10. Delicious!The only reason why I am not giving them 5 stars is because I had an issue - there was a prominent strand of hair in my mahi mahi ceviche. When I told someone, they did not apologize. I told them I just wanted it removed and taken off the check. She asked if I wanted a remake and I said no. I then continued to enjoy the rest of my food. I really enjoyed the light chips they served alongside the tasty salmon tartare. This is something I would order again. My date and I also devoured the bang bang roll. I loved that they placed the shrimp on top instead of inside the roll. Last, I had the lomo saltado bowl with udon noodles. It was overly sauced but had a good flavor. The ratio was off. There were far more noodles than there were of steak tenderloin pieces. But a solid dinner.When the check came, my boyfriend paid it immediately. After he paid it, I asked if they removed the ceviche and he said he didn't check. Long story short, they didn't. They didn't apologize or seem to care enough to remove it off the check for us. And it was so rude. We ordered orange chicken, Kani Su (krab, avocado, masago in a cucumber wrap), an avocado roll, California roll, steak teriyaki, and Thai donuts. The Kani Su was good, with subtle hints of seeetness I'd rate it a 7.5-8/10, and the avocado roll was a good palate cleanser. I didn't have any of the steak teriyaki or orange chicken, but both were hits with the kids. California roll wasn't mine either, but I had a bite and it was exactly what you'd expect. The miso soup was off, couldn't really tell what but maybe too much tofu? Not the best miso soup I've had. Overall, decent place that doesn't necessarily wow but also definitely doesn't disappoint.
