“I traveled to Japan for a study abroad way back in 2009. My favorite thing I ate there was gyudon and to this day, I’ve been searching for one as good as there. We just visited Marugame and braved the long line, and I am so so happy we did. It brought me back to Japan. It was so delicious! I was not a fan of the tempura, but the calamansi lemonade was awesome. I think the only downside was that the seating space is very small and cramped. We had a small stroller with our toddler and it was a struggle to maneuver, park/fold the stroller, and get in and out of the table. The tables are like a foot apart in some areas, which made me feel very anxious and uncomfortable. Service is very speedy and they take good care of you.Kid-friendliness: Tight spaces are not very stroller friendly, but they do have at least 1 high chair and they kindly gave us a small bowl so we could share with our toddler without us needing to ask.“
“Food is exceptional. Showed up as a picky eater. No fish. Food here is so damn good I've started eating new foods and have been at this sushi spot well over 50 times in the past 4 yearsGo to's are-Calvin's choice-SOS-Red Dragon-Spicy AhiBut holy S#!T the food here is fire a must whether tourist or live here best damn sushi on the island, always playing fire kpop music going goblin mode and great vibes. This place is a MUST puts dorakus to shame plus, fraction of the price. Get you some good a$$ sushi and stop by.“
“It's a great location to come after touring Pearl Harbor. It's so, so delicious. It's perfect for Korean tastes. fried rice. Everything including rice noodles is delicious. The portions are large, so you can eat to your fill, the price is reasonable, and it's perfect.“
“okay-ish sushi. the place is small and the area is in a strip mall looking place but easy to find parking. the spicy ahi donburi is okay for the price ($18 or so) and it comes with miso soup. the miso soup tastes like one of those microwaveable packs that are mostly just water so -0.5 star in that. for the people that are unfamiliar with sushi (ahem land locked white folk) this place does it fine but not much to rave about. close to the airport, yes. top tier? not really. all in all, 4/5. OH! and if you are one of 8,937 people on earth that enjoy christian music, please feel free to dine in. not my cup of (miso) soup, but to each their own.Vegetarian options: yesParking: parking is at a strip mallKid-friendliness: there’s kids here“
“Second time here and ordered the salmon poke and spicy ahi over half hapa rice and half salad. And the icing on the cake, shrimp tempura! They offered a fountain drink with purchase too! Wow!! Very fresh fish and presented very well with the perfect portion size. So important even with poke bowls. It has to be the right amount of rice to fish. Flavors were on par and one of better poke places on island!! They do get busy but they give great customer service and knows how to handle their customers. Can't wait to dig in again!“
“I'm an ass, I have been selfishly stalling on this review because I don't want it to be so crowded they turn me away. I really enjoy the homey feels of their food. Even when the man grouchy you cannot taste it in his food it still tastes good. I maybe tried only like 3 things because it's hard to change when you ono for something and that something is so good you scared the next thing going make you wish you had the other thing. Hamburger steak is that thing. I don't know how they make the mochiko chicken so lightly fried almost like tempura. I like that there is a sauce for it. I want to tell you what the worst thing is but I cannot get past the first few things to try everything on the menu ..I want to, but chances are everything is great. This is a take out only -you can blame the pandemic on that. There are a few parking stalls in the building. Follow them on instagram @ethelsgrill_kalihi because they tell you when the hours are. Which is not open Sunday Mondays and when they need a break from a holes like me and sometimes they have tsukemonos, natto thingies, & special made desserts on the days I cannot go. So let me tell you the coolest thing is the actual people of bobs burgers (the show) made a cartoon of Ethel's and it looks just like them as if they stepped out of that cartoon. Freakin awesome but so is the girl who runs this place.“
“A very nice surprise when my daughter took me here today. The hot sour soup was excellent and the only thing I didn't like was that the noodles were super slippery and hard to grasp with the chopsticks. But the flavors were spot on and the fried calamari appetizer was Ono. No sauce needed for the calamari. The pancake (soufflé) strawberry dessert was also delish and don't forget the ice cream with the dessert. My daughter forgot to order the vanilla scoop for $2. This place is a must try if you're in Pearlridge.“
“Tasty food, portions are large, reasonably priced or cheaper than other places, friendly and hard working staff! This place is easy to find with good amount of shared parking in the front of their restaurant. They can get busy (i went on a weekend) because of course a good place will be busy. So there may be a wait. I've seen at the time I went 3 staffs working hard, cooking and serving a bunch of people. Be patient and kind. They also have when available ready to eat bentos under the heater for a grab and go to eat. About $7. And the menu has a huge variety of all kinds of food! Yum!“
“The place has changed a lot in the 7 years since I've been here. First, it's no longer in the pagoda (that's now a Russian/Korean restaurant)! So, no more views of the koi pond as you eat. The food was good, and the portions large, but still a bit salty for my taste. The service, I must say, was outstanding. All the staff were attentive and friendly.“
“I attended a baby shower for my nephew and his wife, who flew in from CA. My other nephew and his family (who live in Maui) hosted the party for about 30 family members in a private room upstairs. It's been years since my last visit here, and I remember the food always being good, and it was. We had a choice of different entrees, and I chose the Miso Butterfish. Some others had chicken karaage, but they all were delicious. They were served "Teishoku" style, so included a salad, miso soup, tempura, and six pieces of California roll. There was also vanilla ice cream for dessert. The service was good, with just two or three servers for our room. They took care of us and made sure our water and hot tea were kept filled. We were allowed two hours for our party, and although we went slightly long (what local family gathering doesn't?), we never felt rushed or pressured to clean up or leave. It's a pretty popular dining spot, especially among the local Japanese, but anyone who likes good Japanese food will find it enjoyable.“
“4.0 is too low a rating.I went a few days ago and ate kimchi stew, japchae, and ribs, and it was all so delicious. Today, I ate soft tofu stew and stir-fried pork again, and it was so delicious that I am writing a review for the third time in my life. The owner and employees are also very nice~“
“I pick up food for my mom a couple of times per month. I use their online ordering system ... It makes the process efficient and painless. The points card works too; spend $100 and get a $10 bento free. I love their unagi and garlic chicken bentos with the multi grain rice option ... delicious! Their salads are also great!“
“Online order was great, printed labels on each container is one good idea. It was buddy but good was hot and fresh. With the first time using the app to order, there was a $10 discount making our meal less than $10 per person. The staff was working hard being busy, but someone was designated to fill online order so I didn't wait long.“
