After 3 rings and 5 minutes with no response I called them to let them know I was there. They finally came out, no apology just pushed the order thru the plastic and sign the receipt. The most important thing is that when all restaurants have increased their prices, they can still maintain the set meal for Chinese food for only $9.99, including soup and spring rolls! You will not find any Chinese restaurant in the surrounding area with this price and quality! One of my favorite restaurants, it is a great place for family gatherings or meeting with friends!

The waiters and waitresses, despite not speaking English as a native language, are all so kind and considerate as well! I highly recommend the Hainan chicken rice and the Vietnamese iced coffee. “For me, this is THE best Korean-Chinese spot in Chicago. Sure, there are places like Yu's Mandarin, Chef Ping, Great Sea, Great Beijing, etc but they don't focus only on Korean-chinese food like Lai Lai do, hence in my opinion, Lai Lai serves the best Jajangmyeon and Jjambbong.

Now, Jajangmyeon comes in many varieties, but most people aren't aware of the differences:

Regular Jajangmyeon: All ingredients are stir-fried, then water and starch are added, resulting in a familiar starchy texture with added sugar or salt.

Gan Jajang: Cooked with just oil, it tends to be more oily and has a stronger "fire" taste from longer stir-frying, often more salty.

Uni Jajang: Ingredients are minced, so the dish lacks visible ingredient shapes and texture but brings out most flavor.

Sam seon Jajang (precious ingredients from sky, land, and sea): Originally with expensive items like shrimp, abalone, and pork, now often substituted with squid and cheaper ingredients.

Tray Jajang: Essentially +2 portions of Sam seon Jajang without the expensive ingredients.

I mention this because in Chicago, there are very few places offering these varieties, and even fewer doing it well. No one specializes in it quite like Korea, and the closest I've found to matching Korean taste is regular Jajangmyeon from Lai Lai.

I can also go on about Jjambbong and the chicken as you see on the picture but perhaps on another review...“

“1st off, I'm not a local guide as this stupid Google system says I am. Ok, Native New Yorker now living in Texas, seriously missing good Chinese food. I was in Illinois for business and a coworker suggested China Style and it was delicious! The nice woman at the counter had them make BBQ Pork Fried Rice for me, to go with an order of BBQ Pork and it was all very good! The prices were standard for what Chinese food costs these days. It was so good. I came back 2 days later for more of the rice and had the Chicken with Broccoli and it was very good as well! Thank you to the nice woman for having the order prepared specifically for what I wanted! Best Chinese I've had away from New York.“

“I ordered the Dragon & Phoenix dish for takeout. The description sounded great: fresh shrimp, chunks of chicken, bok choy, mushrooms, snow pea pods, water chestnuts, and bamboo shoots. Unfortunately, the reality didn’t live up to the expectations.

The biggest issue was the chicken. It was dry, tough, and tasted like it had been cooked a long time ago and just reheated. It was very unpleasant to chew and really took away from the dish. The shrimp, on the other hand, were good — fresh and tender. Most of the vegetables were also fine.

However, the dish was missing two of the listed ingredients: bamboo shoots and water chestnuts. Their absence noticeably affected the texture and overall experience.

This dish could have been delicious, but the poor quality chicken and missing ingredients really ruined it. I hope more attention is paid to preparation and order accuracy in the future.“

“I was in area and stopped in. The nice woman at the counter suggested the General Tso Chickin. I proceeded to order the combo which came with fried rice and an egg roll.
All of which I felt was very delicious and portion size was more than I could eat in a sitting.

“I had the orange chicken and crab Rangoon. It isn't your typical Chinese takeout. When you walk in you may think so, but the food is definitely above the normal Chinese takeout. It was crispy and the sauce was great. The crab rangoon were huge and had a lot of filling. I will be back for sure.“

“It’s a great go-to place where I often pick up on Tuesday nights. The food is ready 10 to 15 minutes after I order it over the phone. The lady who takes the order and gives me the food to-go is unfailingly pleasant and always smiles. We love their Mongolian beef, and enjoy their egg rolls, hot & sour soup and wonton soup. The beef with Broccoli had les than 2 oz of beef for $30. I have included a comparison between Hunan Palace’s beef with vegetables vs what I received from PF. Hunan Palace blows PF away! Additional I have had very good luck requesting modifications, I like extra spicy and extra sauce, Human honored my request while PF did not. I think the pics tell all“

“Classic cozy Asian buffet. Crabs offered on Sunday so the whole place is packed. Had a wait time of at least about 20-30 minutes. New crabs came out about 52 minutes after the tray was set. Food was okay for buffet quality. Fair diversity in selection of food. I only go with my parents since it is one of their favorite buffets for the crabs and price. Price was just around 20 per adult before tax. Drinks, other than water, cost extra and you have to ask staff for a refill.“

“I've been trying local places around. So far this is my favorite Chinese. I will say, i was hesitant to try due to the prices. I'm can be very cheap at times. But the food looked good in the pictures and the restaurant has been in business for 50+ years so i decided to give in a try last week. I ordered the chicken and broccoli, sweet and sour chicken, pork egg foo yung, pot stickers and crab ragoon. When i tried that pot sticker, it was the most delicious pot sticker i have ever eaten. And the egg foo young, delicious! Tasty flavorful sauce and the patty texture, egg to bean sprout and meat ratio, and taste was perfect! I have been searching for that consistency in an egg foo young for years and finally found it here. The other dishes were delicious as well. I requested for the chicken and broccoli to be in white sauce. Yum! It was worth every penny. Take my money please! I came back again today. I had to. I got the chicken egg foo young and more pot stickers. An order for myself and one for my husband. He loves the pot stickers as well. While i was there both times, i saw a lot of people come in to dine in and get drinks. Seems like a very chill environment to come have some food and drinks with friends. I am very satisfied with this restaurant. It has been a royal experience. Hope they stay open for the next 50 years!“

“I've been ordering from Chopstick for 8 years on an almost weekly basis. I love the food here, the prices are very reasonable, the flavors are great, and the portions are enormous. I usually get a lunch special meal, which comes with steamed or fried rice and an egg roll. You can get the meals at dinner time too for a small price surcharge. It can easily feed 2 people, and most are less than $10. I've tried almost everything, and l I've never been disappointed.“
