“Shinsen is a contemporary Thai and Japanese restaurant that I have been patronizing for a few years now.One of my go-to orders is their Yakitori (grilled chicken) Don and Yakiniku (grilled skirt steak) Don. I especially like the soy reduction that accompanies the rice, which I think is house-made and brewed for several hours.Another one of my go-to orders is their Shallot Fried Rice with shrimp. It's unique and not like your traditional Thai or Japanese fried rice. My only complaint is that it comes with only three pieces of shrimp chopped up into little bite sizes. Shrimp fried rice at most, if not all, other restaurants come with at least five shrimps.I also really like their robata skewers. Among the more ordinary skewers are shrimp, chicken wings, and asparagus while their more exotic skewers, if you are adventurous, are grilled chicken gizzard, chicken heart, and pork jowl (cheek). All of the skewers that I have ordered are good. It's a shame, however, that they have removed their pork belly skewer from the menu.My second and final complaint, which I think is really important and therefore want to highlight is the way the skewers are packaged for carryout orders.Every order of skewer is wrapped in aluminium foil and packed in its own styrofoam box, which is wasteful. If they're going to wrap every order of skewer in aluminium foil, then there's no problem with packing them in the same container. I also wish Shinsen would use a more environmental-friendly material rather than styrofoam containers for their skewers. I'm generally not a tree-hugger, but styrofoam is really harmful to the environment, cannot be recycled, and takes an incredibly long time to degrade.I know that Shinsen cares a lot about presentation for their carryout orders, but there are ways to maintain good food presentation while being thoughtful about wastage and the environment. I hope Shinsen can be more conscious about this issue.“
“I will always be grateful to Yasotorn for taking my order right before closing on a weekday night. I had a long day at work and called in 15 minutes before they close at 9pm. The server who answered my call was very friendly and said that I can still place an order.I recommend trying their Hoi Tod – Thai omelette with mussels and beansprouts. The accompanying sauce paired well with the omelette. If you're looking for good, reliable Thai food with some unique options and friendly customer service, I recommend visiting Yasotorn.“
“This is a small locally owned Japanese restaurant. The food is always great and well-prepared. I have tried many things on the menu and it is always delicious. The bubble tea is also especially good. The employees are always very courteous and care about maintaining a positive atmosphere. The sushi and sashimi dishes are also very reasonably priced and high quality. Highly recommend this place!“
“I went here a few days ago while in the neighborhood. I got the Panang Curry noodles. I can’t have garlic or onion, so I wasn’t sure if they’d be able to make it, but they did and it was so good! The staff was all so nice. I went here by myself to read, and it was such a nice comfortable atmosphere. I wish I lived closer! Will definitely have to come back next time I’m in the area.“
“New discovery in Evanston. This restaurant partners with 2 other restaurants next door so you can order from any of them with a selection of American, Asian and Mexican. Great when you are with a family or group and people want different things to eat! All delicious food, great service and the interior is beautiful and cozy with lovely booths and an antique bar.“
“I had never even known about this restaurant until a friend introduced me after a book club one night! It’s so warm and cozy and the menu is huge - and they also have a cute little bar! Loved the fact that I could also order so many vegetarian items. No wonder this place is an Evanston fave!“
“Lunch special is bargain. I had the green curry with chicken and my sister had the pad see ew with beef. Each lunch comes with an appetizer. Very generous portion. Service is attentive. The restaurant itself is very clean. Will return to try other items on the menu.“
“Very good Thai restaurant with a few authentic Thai dishes that you might not otherwise find at other Thai restaurants.Their noodle dishes like Pad See Ew has a wok hei flavor. In Asian cooking, "wok hei" means breath of the wok, which essentially refers to the smoky, charred flavor that you get from stir frying in a wok over very high heat. If I have to give an analogy, it's like giving a steak a really good sear.I also recommend one of their rice dishes called Kao Nar Ped, which is roast duck served with Chinese broccoli and rice. Siam Splendour also has an authentic Thai appetizer called Tod Mun, which is a savory fish cake accompanied by a tangy dipping sauce. I also especially like their Thai Custard for dessert, and am looking forward to mango being back in season so I can order their Mango Sticky Rice. With so many Thai restaurants in the area, you can't go wrong with Siam Splendour.“
“We had an amazing experience. Our server Bojan helped us pick some delicious items from the menue. Second time here and he made our experience special. He is honest and not trying just push item from the menu, took time to explain and suggest the best items. We will definitely be back.“
