The beers are awesome pretty much across the board, and the inside is all exposed brick and coziness - definitely makes you want to sit a spell and tip a few beers back.

I absolutely love that Maplewood now has *hop water* 🙌🏼 (several hop water flavors to choose from, actually) and a bunch of infused seltzers to choose from, in addition to the beer and spirits.
And I *adore* that Maplewood loves pugs!! I’ve yet to meet a pug there for some scritches over a brew, but we all gotta have goals amirite?? 🤭🐶

“Best brewery in Chicago for BA stouts, which is my favorite style. They have some good sours and other ales as well, and I love the space! Plenty of room, great ambiance, and they do tours! Plenty of options, and you can do flights, though the price varies!“

“First time at Spiteful brewing and it was exactly what you might expect from an independent brewery. Good selection of beers, good location and it looks like they have a very nice outdoor seating area out front.

This day was not conducive to outdoor seating, but I imagine this is a great location during the summer months.“

“I passed this place 3 times trying to find it. It's very unassuming, but I was on a mission to finally stop in. It was early and I was the only customer. I chatted with the bartender between sips and reading. I had the Marz and probably the tiger, but can't really remember. I remember them both being good, which is all that matters. They have a decent selection on tap, cans, bottles and cocktails. Again I was there solo, but the vibe from the bartender and space was legit. Kind of reminds me of Half Acres old location before they moved to expand. Hopefully they'll have a similar experience.“

“Hopewell has such a cute vibe! I loved the fact that they had a large selection of games for passing your time there as you enjoy the beer. The Lil Buddy was perfect. Just a little something. They also had super friendly bartender who was kind enough to give me a few stickers. I collect enamel pins, so was glad to buy one of those from the merch.“

“This Bar and Pizzeria had been on my radar prior to leaving the UK, for a short break to Chicago to watch AC/DC. Kev and I weren't disappointed! Great hospitality, a wide selection of beers made on site and a 'cup and char' pizza to die for. Topped off with hot honey, it's one of the best pizzas I've tried. The 'Tommy o two legs' was my beer of choice with most having quirky names inspired by the friendly staff. A great location to visit and one that will be fondly remembered. “Fabulous night. Our group tried the special hamburger, beef stew and bangers and mash. All were great. We also tried a special beer and the beer cocktail. The two in our group that had the beer cocktail really liked it! They are not beer people so the cocktail drink version was perfect. To end the night, we did the gingerbread decorating kit. It was fun and tasted great with a Guinness!“

“The vibe is very chill and relaxing. The sandwich I had was thanksgiving turkey sandwich . Delicious with turkey gravy served on the side. Beer was really tasty . My first beer was a Kriek sour 3.5 out of 5 . The sour taste was very forward but but behind that there was not a good punch of cherry flavor. My second beer was a raspberry jalapeno that was very tasty. It was in the belguin fruit beer style. I give that one 4 out 5. The flavors were bright and playful with a slight hint of sweetness. Enjoyable place and nice servers and people.“

“Visited September 2025
It was my first time visiting this part of Chicago. I walked from the city center to the brewery, it took about 50–60 minutes, but it’s also easily accessible via the Orange Line and a short walk.
I arrived early, so it was a quiet day. The place has a large open space with plenty of seating, including a few comfortable couches, and a big bar area with seats as well.
I really like breweries that offer a good variety of beers on tap, and Monochrome Brewing had an excellent selection. They also served a hard seltzer, a wide range of cocktails, and even had a guest tap.
I tried the following MR beers:

El Venado – 5.1% Mexican lager
Ochre – 5.8% Pale Ale
Oktoberfest – 5.5% Märzen
YR:1NE – a massive 15.5% stout

I don’t usually drink many Mexican lagers, but this one was really nice. Overall, every beer I tried was high quality!
One of the owners/brewers even sat down for a chat, really friendly people, and I even got a few freebies 🙌

During my visit, I learned that MR had been to Europe earlier this year for the Brewskival festival, and from what I heard, they might be coming back next year 🍻

“Let me start by saying I really love this place! For the last few months my co-worker and I have been coming here every Friday after work to relax with drinks and good food. The service is always top notch and the pizza is crazy delicious! We usually split The Butcher with an add of giardinara - totally amazing. Everything from the steak sandwich to the smash burger are delicious and don't even get me started on the fried pickles! You can't stop eating them!! The Pho was a little sweeter than I expected, but it was my first time having it so I wasn’t sure what to expect. The beef skewers, egg rolls, and wings were amazing. “Before the spot burned down, this was my favorite neighborhood spot to visit for good beer and food.The food was always amazing. They served solid bar food and had some amazing dinner options. Also the atmosphere was really cool with the paintings and the windows into the brewery. They also had a wide variety of beer that they would come out with and rotate out seasonally, so it was always worth coming back to try the new beer they released.The parking was pretty good as there was a good amount of free parking near the venue.I talked with the owners and they are planning to reopen. I can't wait for them to come back!!“

“Haymarket is a pub on W. Randolph Street that we recently stopped by while waiting for our table at Au Cheval across the street to become available. They have a good sized indoor seating area as well as a few tables near the bar. Several tellies behind the bar showing sports games. Drink list includes a good selection of handcraft beers. We enjoyed a porter and blond that both pretty good, easy to enjoy while watching a bit of baseball and basketball on the evening. Would be happy to pop back in for another round if in the area if in the area again.“
