“Delicious fresh hot meal with excellent service and less than the cost of fast food. I highly recommend this restaurant and wish I lived closer, I'd be there often!
Parking: Hit or miss on street parking, especially during Biden's build back better spree.“
“I love this place! One of the only places where you can find a diverse menu with real Szechuan dishes in the area. I love the Szechuan tofu, Kung pao chicken, and Moo shu pork. The food and service are fantastic. Disregard and do not listen to the the negative reviews: almost all of the negative reviews are from prejudiced people discriminating against the owners for their direct way of speaking.“

“This brings me back to the hutongs of Beijing! Monkey King Jianbing is worth the drive up to Skokie! Every Jianbing I’ve had is delicious, with the right balance of spice. They also added Shou zhua bings, think Chinese taco, which are amazing as well! I love this place!“

“This place was so good! Our waitress was the best! They were able to accommodate my picky eater, and she really liked her food! We all did! We got pot stickers, crab rangoon, a won ton soup, orange chicken, general tso chicken, chicken and rice (no sauce), and sweet and sour chicken (sauce on the side). We will be back!“

“Our favorite Chinese food restaurant in Chicago. Staff is friendly, food is delicious no matter what we get. Some of our favorites are the Wash Sun Chicken Wings, Noodle platter, Ma Po Tofu - but honestly anything is delicious from here.“

“Family of 4 - myself and son split the All you can eat Sushi, while my husband and daughter split a couple of the Chinese entrees. Staff was very attentive and friendly. Everything we received came out fresh and delicious. Everyone left full and satisfied with their meals! I think this might be a new favorite spot. There was a lot of food we wanted to try and can't wait to come back to try more!“

“Since our favorite Chinese place went down the tubes, likely sold, we have been trying to find a replacement. China Fast Wok has some great things going for it. Some dishes were close to a 5, others more of a low 3. The Kung Pao shrimp was fantastic. That would be a 5. Plenty of shrimp, great sauce, correct ingredients. Fried rice had a generous amount of shrimp, but rather tasteless. The egg roll made we want to cry. It's one of my favorite things to eat. Never, in my life, have I gotten such a small, half egg roll. Taste was ok, but way too small. The other dish was Momgolian Beef. We asked for it "not spicey." Taste was OK, but there was so little meat, we thought they made a mistake. We would not order that again, which is unfortunate. It's such a classic staple.
The owners are very nice. We are willing to try a couple of other dishes, but won't bother with the specials anymore. The egg roll is just puny and the rice ends up getting thrown out.“

“Fantastic Sichuan food with a real kick! ? I had the Boiled Beef in Spicy Broth, and the spice level was just right—tingling but not overpowering. The portion sizes were generous, and the beef was super nice. The service was fast, and the staff were attentive . Definitely coming back for more!“

“I find some of the low reviews here baffling. I think some people may be confusing this restaurant with other Chinese restaurants due to its rather non descript name. Make no mistake, the food here is excellent and punches way above its price point.Coming in the first time I was pessimistic. It seemed your standard pre prepared food menu ready to dish out quickly to the lunch crowd panda express style. I quickly became a huge fan after eating large well prepared portions I would expect from a normal sit down restaurant. Yes it's your standard generic fare but made so much better.Great food, great price. Appreciate these places, the owners care about making something good.“

“First time ordering from here, and we'll definitely be back. Food was fresh and absolutely delicious. The Xtra Large size is no joke!!! We ordered an Xtra Large order of sweet and sour chicken, BBQ pork egg foo young lunch special, crab Rangoon and BBQ pork ribs. The sweet and sour chicken was a huge hit, my kids absolutely loved it. Light and crispy, and it didn't taste oily at all. Egg foo young lunch special was great, really liked the plain fried rice it came with. BBQ pork ribs were tasty, as were the rangoon. They stuff those crab rangoon very nicely!
Kid-friendliness: My kids loved the food
Dietary restrictions: Let them know if you have any allergies etc, they seem accommodating“

“For me, this is THE best Korean-Chinese spot in Chicago. Sure, there are places like Yu's Mandarin, Chef Ping, Great Sea, Great Beijing, etc but they don't focus only on Korean-chinese food like Lai Lai do, hence in my opinion, Lai Lai serves the best Jajangmyeon and Jjambbong.
Now, Jajangmyeon comes in many varieties, but most people aren't aware of the differences:
Regular Jajangmyeon: All ingredients are stir-fried, then water and starch are added, resulting in a familiar starchy texture with added sugar or salt.
Gan Jajang: Cooked with just oil, it tends to be more oily and has a stronger "fire" taste from longer stir-frying, often more salty.
Uni Jajang: Ingredients are minced, so the dish lacks visible ingredient shapes and texture but brings out most flavor.
Sam seon Jajang (precious ingredients from sky, land, and sea): Originally with expensive items like shrimp, abalone, and pork, now often substituted with squid and cheaper ingredients.
Tray Jajang: Essentially +2 portions of Sam seon Jajang without the expensive ingredients.
I mention this because in Chicago, there are very few places offering these varieties, and even fewer doing it well. No one specializes in it quite like Korea, and the closest I've found to matching Korean taste is regular Jajangmyeon from Lai Lai.
I can also go on about Jjambbong and the chicken as you see on the picture but perhaps on another review...“

“Very happy that found this place has reopened. We used to come here for lunch and dinner, there is no other Asian restaurant in north shore we feel good to enter to eat. The menu with varieties and many Asian popularities dishes. Think this may be comparable from south Canal street China Town and the best one in the north shore neighborhood.
Parking: there is plenty free parking spaces.“

“They're fine for what they are which is a city version of a strip mall Chinese restaurant. It's not particularly inexpensive unless you get a lunch or dinner combo. That's their strength. Otherwise they sometimes close a little early if it's slow. They're not very friendly though not rude. And the quality and timeliness is very inconsistent. My advice, go well before closing and get a combo. If you need more than 3 packets of sauce total, ask them or you won't get it. And they never include hot mustard sauce if you like it, which I do. It's average but not bad.“

“This was my first time in Glencoe to watch a show at Writer’s Theater, and I stopped by this place for a meal before the show. It seems to be the only Chinese restaurant in the entire town and also one of the few places both open at night and relatively affordable.
My friend and I ordered the Walnut Shrimp Special and Sauteed Green Beans. We were told it would take 30 minutes, so we sat inside to wait, and the food came out right on time and piping hot. You can’t dine in the restaurant though, as they don’t have a dining license.
9 times out of 10, Chinese takeout will always hit for me, and Shanghai Garden was no exception. The green beans were flavorful and well-sauteed. The walnut shrimp had a nice crispy texture, tangy taste, and also came with broccoli and crispy noodle pieces.
The portions are large for the price and they also included a large box of rice with our order. For just $15 per person, we had a good amount of leftovers. Overall great value, tasty food, generous portions, friendly service— I would love to return if I’m in the area again!

“My Mom and I were looking for a new (new to us) Chinese-American restaurant. Palace Cantonese surpassed all expectations. Every plate we had was delicious and food was hot. The service by Calvin was outstanding.
We entered the restaurant and were the only ones during this late lunch time. We sat in the comfortable and cozy booth (firm for what my back needs). Right away, Calvin brought delicious hot tea and water. The Fried Won Ton, which is hard to find without meat, was perfectly fried, not soggy. The cup of egg drop soup was a generous portion, more like a medium bowl. The veggie egg rolls were large and tasty. The Chicken Szechuan, was like a kung pao chicken and very flavorful. I loved the touch from Calvin bringing extra peanuts without us asking. He also asked if we needed more tea even though our steel carafe was half full. At similar restaurants, I’ve not seen that service.
The final touch was receiving 2 almond cookies (plus fortune cookies), which my Mom and I love.
It’s my new favorite restaurant which I will be patronizing every time I’m in Chicago.
Parking: Restaurant in small strip mall.“

“I moved into this neighborhood about a month ago, and since then, I've ordered from here four times, two pickup and two delivery.. I like to consider myself half of a connoisseur when it comes to Asian cuisine, so when I tell you this food is DELICIOUS, I am not lying.. the order is correct every time, it's always HOT and they give you very good portions.. and the ladies in the store and the delivery driver are always so friendly.. today, I called in and she saw my address and asked me how I was doing.. I know that seems trivial but 2023 has seen some insanely negative interactions in fast food establishments so maybe my expectations are lowered.. regardless, no need to lower anything at this location! Great food and great service.. ordering again next week lolPic is of the pepper steak with chicken fried rice lunch special.. total was just under $15 but I gave him a $20 :)“

“This place is dead in the middle of the hood around dope n crack spots so be careful. Other then that, it's a good little fast food spot that has good prices. The owner Tony is cool as hell but yea if you don't know how to carry yourself in the hoof go with someone who does or call in ahead of time so you can walk in have your food ready n dip. Also offers beverages
Vegetarian options: They got some stuff like different dishes that don't have any meat
Kid-friendliness: You can bring your kids but don't keep em in there long. So many strung out disgusting smellin people that literally haven't showered for minimum 1 year so you can imagine how it reeks. The babies don't need to be around that
Parking: You can park on Pulaski close to directly in front of the shop or on Van Buren on the other street that intersects next to the shop
Wheelchair accessibility: I think you can fit wheelchairs“

“We ordered the dinner special last night. This includes an entree, fried rice and an egg roll. I got the shrimp kow, and my husband got mushroom egg foo young. The shrimp kow contained a generous amount of large shrimp and an assortment of veggies in a white sauce, which was highly seasoned. Bok choy, mushrooms, broccoli, peapods, water chestnuts, celery and adorably thinly sliced carrots. I loved it! My husband must have enjoyed the egg foo young...it's all gone! The dinner came in a black takeout container that was divided into two sections.Very nice. The shrimp egg rolls were huge and rolled very fancy! All the food was piping hot and ready for pick up in 15 minutes! The service when ordering and picking up was very courteous and accommodating. Prices were very reasonable!
Vegetarian options: A whole section of vegitarian options including tofu.“
