“HUGE shout out to our amazing Fairlane Diner! Last night on our way home from a basketball game in Nokomis we decided to call and order Fairlane Diner for dinner. We did not realize they closed at 8pm and had dialed the phone at 7:55pm, the friendly woman answering the phone politely took our order and it was hot and fresh when we arrived at 8:15pm! “I had a host of family come visit from out of town. I ordered 50 piece wings from California Kitchen, it came with fries and 2 cans of pop. I was told 15 minutes for pick up and did not check the food prior to leaving. The chicken was fried very hard and wasn't good. I didn't call until the next morning and spoke to a manager. The manager was pleasant and very understanding. I was able to bring back the chicken from the previous day and recieved a full new 50 piece meal for my visiting family. He even asked if I wanted to keep the order that was messed up. Amazing customer service and the food was really good. I would always order from them, they really know how to treat their customers!! The new location is great too!.“

“Been coming to Cook’s since I worked across the street at camp Lincoln years upon years ago. Went back today for the first time in several years. The quality, freshness, quick, and friendly service was EXACTLY how I remember. Their whole grain bread is to die for. I don’t get to this side of town as often as I used to, but it is absolutely worth stopping in. Definitely one of Springfield’s hidden gems!“

Even though I’m not a wine drinker, she took the time to explain the wines and menu in a way that didn’t feel overwhelming. “As a small business owner, I love trying new local spots — and Aunt Lou’s absolutely did not disappoint. It was so delicious and had that sweet nostalgia of the days when you’d buy a plate from a friend and sit around the table way too long. We ordered the fried chicken breast dinners with cabbage, mashed potatoes & brown gravy, plus red beans and rice with cornbread on the side. We also tried the fried deviled eggs (these SURPRISED us — and we immediately wished we’d ordered more!) and the Chicago-style wings — breaded, tossed, all flats. So freakin’ good. “I get my lunch from here just about daily and for a few reasons. The staff are very welcoming and the quality of the food is pretty high. I am a big fan of their chicken and cheddar wraps! There are lots of free toppings to add to any sandwich or wrap. They load up all my toppings and the wrap still stays together nicely.

They used to serve organic fountain juices - I'm hoping those come back soon!“

We got a caramel marshmallow latte thing that tasted like campfire toasted marshmallows, but we were there specifically because we wanted pastries. He got a Danish and I got the triple very muffin and honestly both were absolutely divine. I love a blueberry muffin as it is, but theirs are so soft and they don't slump even a little on the very flavor. The Danish was delightfully flaky and filled with a praline sort of filling, which was just the right amount of sweet. Highly recommend getting your baked goods warmed as well! “Fantastic dive bar run by a 98 year old veteran who’s been in business for over 40 years. Great dive bar atmosphere. Louie is a great guy who’s in love with Marylin Monroe and will chat with anyone. He says business has been slow lately. Beers $2 each. Stop in and give Louie some business. You’ll be glad you did.“

“We love Gyro Stop. The food never disappoints and the staff is great. But if you close at a certain time, that should mean you close at that time. I tried to call in an order 45 minutes before close, which I think is reasonable. I got a recording that said they prefer online orders. Great! So do I. Nope. They stop taking those an hour before close. Called again and the recording gave me the options and I selected to speak to someone to place an order and was placed on hold. After a minute or so, I was told they couldn't take my call and to try again in 5-10 minutes. I decided to just go in and place it. Nope. Door was locked 30 minutes before close. I'm sorry but this is unacceptable. I've worked in the service industry so I am very understanding of the employees' time but if you say you're open until 7 (this was a Saturday), then stay open until 7.“

Nothing fancy , but housed in a cool-looking building. Prices are reasonable. For lunch, very good option for small town Springfield, IL., up the road from the Lincoln Museum.“

“We went there for lunch on Sunday, the food was OK. Nothing to brag about but not bad either. However, when I checked my bank statement I seen the waitress tacked on an extra $4 tip for herself After we left her a $20 tip in cash on a $65.69 tab. I always write cash in the tip area of the receipt for this reason but she still did it! So watch your receipts, they have at least one dishonest waitress!!“
